First of all, we parked in front of the retail area and walked down to the ocean. Instead of parking here, you may park closer...at the end of Bird Rock Avenue. It's a dead end street with a beautiful mosaic bench that overlooks the vastness where the sky meets the sea... wow! There are steps that you can walk down to get closer to the water. I was just happy with the scenery that presented before me... If you have time, check out this scenic point. It's amazing! The birds know about this secret place!

The views, the ocean breeze, the sun. Soak it all in. Take a walk on the pier. Put your feet in the water. If the kettle corn guy is there, by all means treat yourself to some. It's really good. Green Flash is a meteorological optical phenomena that you can see during sunset or sunrise. It is…read morevery rare to be able to see. Given the right conditions, you can see a distinct green spot above the sun's upper limb, that usually only lasts for no longer than two seconds. It is even more rare, the green flash can resemble a green ray shooting up from the sunset or sunrise point. This sculpture is the work of Malcolm Jones and is dedicated to that phenomenon, but it in no way aids you of viewing. You will find it on the Mission Beach boardwalk. The piece is made of a solid cast acrylic archway that is supported by two concrete pillars. There is also a bronze plaque describing the green flash phenomenon located on the sculpture and another title plaque. It was made in 2002 and is in fair shape, especially considering its age. Some has put stickers on it and the plaques are show signs of corrosion. It is unique and I actually learned something new in the process. It definitely sticks out. I have come to the terms that I will probably not ever see a green flash. It takes masterful planning, precise timing, and patience. I have 2 of the 3 (you can figure out which one I am missing). Parking here is simple. There is a free parking lot right by it. You can park, get out and talk a closer look. Well, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. The beach, a park, and an amusement park are in walking distance if you are looking for ideas.

Well, it happens at sunrise or sunset, right before the sun drops out of view or starts to appear, it is said that a green flash appears for about 2 seconds. Such as, dog poop left on the ground, (no stray dogs here..) urine scented sidewalks, thefts, car break-ins, rude and smelly folks, paid parking in residential neighborhoods. I still go, but even my 20 year old daughter has witnessed the transition since we've been going for about 15 of those years. Everyone thinks it's cool to own a dog but they lack the decency and or common sense to care for them. Carry those little baggies and keep them leashed. Simple right? Apparently not for some. This happens in my neighborhood too, so possibly this is a millennial thing.. Wait, maybe I shouldn't generalize and blame a generation- all ages really do apply here. Pick up after yourself AND your dog. I could name the numerous establishments here, but I do have a few favorites that I particularly like. Sicilian Thing pizza, Crazee burger, Spirits 619, Lefty's, City Tacos, Yog-Art and a few others I can't think of right now. So if you live here you may take Yoga classes that you actually pay for. I couldn't resist taking a snapshot of the sign on the power pole, which suggests your Yoga could be free if you just bend over and pick up that doggie doodoo. Are you up for the challenge or not?

The bastions of Ocean Beach Elementary and Sacred Heart Academy are right there. There is the Ocean Beach Park & Recreation Center-where generations of children have played and hung out. The hippie haven of the Children's Energy Center-a daycare like no other is nearby and there are other Church-related daycares close to it all. A small, passive park attached to the other side of the Ocean Beach Park & Rec Center alley-the Saratoga Kid's Park is a gathering spot for lots of local kids who come up with their parents in strollers, trikes, bikes or simply on foot. On the weekends, the Park is overrun with them and the benches and picnic tables get quite a workout too. The Jungle Gym and swings are only a few years old- the Park was recently refurbished and freshened up with new equipment. What's nice about the Kiddie Playground there-it doesn't look ghetto or like a hang-out for punky teens. The Park & Rec must maintain it since there is no graffiti or trash. The only time it's gross is when the perpetually-flaky OB dog-owners bathroom their dogs in the sand or lawn area. Otherwise, a perfect spot to roll up with the kids and let them run around till they get hungry or tired-or preferably both! Which could only mean blessed words to hear, which are: NAP TIME!

A nice change of pace from La Jolla Cove and Shores is a visit to the Cedros Business Districe…read morewhich is a long block of business in Cedros Avenue. It has a lot of charm with various stores including furniture, pet, clothes, stationery and other functional items for in and out of the house. You ask why review a whole block and not individual stores. There are individual reviews already in this site for the businesses, what I wanted to review was the atmosphere and how this block welcomes its customers. First and foremost, parking is worse in the Summer because more people are out but on a January Sunday afternoon, I found it easy to find a spot in front of one of the stores. However, since there is a Farmer's market from 2-4 pm, parking is available in most store lots that are not open on Sundays. If you are really looking for a different shopping district to visit on a lazy Sunday afternoon, go to this area. The beach access is within walking distance across Highway 101. There is a bridge over the train tracks that allows you access towards the beach. Important touches for this area is the benches that are spread around the block. It gives you an opportunity to rest if you are tired from walking. The most important part of this block is the availability of various options. Farmer's market on Sunday, pet boutique with its small yard with dog houses, stationery and furniture store with unique gifts, wrapping and household items and outside furniture for your patio and garden. There is also the Cedros garden which is a smaller version of those big box stores that sell plants. They are very knowledgeable about the plants they sell. So if you and the dog want to get away from the regular area downtown, Coronado or La Jolla, take a drive towards Solana Beach. Very dog friendly including some of the restaurants in the area, Wild Note Cafe (part of the Belly Up Tavern venue (musical acts etc.). The Pacific Coast Grill just over the bridge also have an outdoor venue that allows dogs. The beach does not allow dogs so if you have poochie, you can view the surfers and the beach and the sunset but not take him down.

I tried to locate it by the pictures that were on here, but they were wrong. After a long search that spanned about 2 days, I was able to find it. I will help you out, if you want to find it. It is located right across the street from 1083 Sunset Cliff Blvd. You can't miss it. Me and my assistant were able to find it in the dark. It is the one covered in bird crap. You cannot mistake it. There is a lot of places to park and get a good look. I would suggest getting there well before sunset because the parking fills up with all the sunset gazers. The rock had quite a few birds on it and is known as a surf break that produces 3 different waves. I do not know what attracts the birds to that specific rock. Some tried to explain it to me, but it was way over my head. I know that it is not much, but it is the little things that matter. It is not a long stop, but definitely worth a visit. A visit here should probably be paired with a visit to Sunset Cliff Park and a sunset viewing. I am really glad that I was able to make it here.
