Not as impressive as I thought it would be. Looked like any other house - yes the doors are shorter than normal but it Eisner anything extraordinary. The road leading to the munchkin house was very thin, bumpy, and windy. There was no place to park or stop or even pull over to take a look at the home - you just got to drive really slowly by it. Nothing too crazy.

House is built up into the hill.

Somehow, this ended up being one of the best Italian meals we've ever had -- including overseas. This was our first time here, and everything exceeded expectations. The restaurant is family owned by the chef, his wife, and their sons, and you can truly feel the passion and hospitality the moment you walk in. They came by to introduce themselves, which made the whole evening feel so personal and welcoming. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was unbelievable -- honestly one of the best pasta dishes any of us have had. The branzino was equally impressive, and that says a lot considering how much seafood we eat while traveling through coastal Italy each year. You can absolutely taste the quality of the ingredients. The owner mentioned they import their flour directly from Italy, and it definitely shows in the food. I only wish this restaurant was closer to home because I'd be here constantly. Such an incredible little spot in La Jolla.

The restaurant truly carries an authentic Italian charm -- warm, welcoming, and family-oriented in a way that reminded me deeply of my years living in Italy. Knowing the family is originally from Milan made the experience feel even more genuine. Toward the end of the evening, we were the last guests there, and the quiet ambiance brought back so many memories of late dinners in Italy where conversations linger long after the meal is finished. Most importantly, you can absolutely taste the authenticity in the food. The flavors were rich, comforting, and unmistakably Italian -- not overly commercialized, but truly traditional. A lovely experience overall and one that brought back fond memories for me.

What an absolutely incredible experience from beginning to the end…read more We had a group of 8 and got a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. The host was so friendly when we walked up and started what was an amazing dinner with them. Our server was just the same and just such an enjoyable dining experience. It definitely gives an authentic Italian theme in the decor. Fun but not too loud. Now the food was out of the world amazing. Loved the hot and honey pepperoni pizza. The crust was awesome and every bite was better than the last. Thanks for a great evening!!

They were kind of like stale, thin McDonald's fries with Parmesan and too much bacon... I don't know, I literally didn't finish them. I wanted to like them, though. So anyway then my friend got the risotto, and I asked to try it so I could maybe order some to bring home for my wife. But uh... it was pretty greasy. That's great for some folks but it's definitely not what we would have gone for. I got the Insalata Carlotta, which was decent. I really like capers and arugula, a couple of the featured ingredients. The service I thought was good. My friend didn't get there for a while and it was just me answering emails on my phone lol. The server took my cues really well on when I was and wasn't ready to order. Ambience wasn't bad either. Nice little spot nestled in between buildings. I think it's just that I wasn't a big fan of the food itself.

Our waiter came over and welcomed us and set down a bottle of cold water and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. The evening was underway without a hitch. We asked a few questions and then we reviewed the menu. When Robert came back with the glass of wine, we were ready to order and the process was easy. We shared the fried calamari which had two shrimp and several different kinds of vegetables. It was served with two kinds of sauces. It was very good. My husband ordered the Salmon a la Griglia and he really enjoyed it with the risotto. I had the Seafood Cioppino. It had a great deal of seafood including really big mussels, shrimp and salmon. The broth was great too. The service was great and the meal was terrific. It has a nice variety on the menu. It seems to be a popular neighborhood place. we will be back to try some of the other treasures.

Overall, the food and experience felt average to me, which is why I landed at 3 stars. Not bad, just okay. I had no prior knowledge of the restaurant, their brand, popular menu items, or social media presence. To be fair, doing a bit more research beforehand might have helped me get more out of the experience and try what they're best known for. This is a casual neighborhood spot, so there's no need to dress up. Their tagline, "Where the locals eat," fits the vibe well. The staff are friendly. An older woman was kind and social. She showered me in compliments and the spent some time chatting with the table next to us. It gave the place a neighborhood, familial feel where the staff seem comfortable engaging with guests. Our server was polite, though a bit rushed. He would check in, start a conversation, and then quickly move on mid-sentence. I ordered the Malbec, Antigal (Argentina). It's a $15 bottle retail and priced at $15 per glass. We ordered the Mussels and Focaccia bread as an appetizer. The broth was a bit on the salty side, though the fries on top were cooked well. The bread felt a little firm and could have been fresher. If you're seated at a 2-person table, space can be tight once both appetizers and entrees arrive. We ended up moving to a larger table to accommodate everything. The portion sizes and plates are large and can be shared among 2-3 people. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese, which was underwhelming for me. My husband ordered the 24-Hour Braised Beef Short Ribs and really enjoyed them. He said they were tender and flavorful. For our special occasion, we were treated to their homemade mud pie dessert. It's a coffee flavored ice cream with an Oreo crumb crust topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The portion was very HUGE and more than we could finish. It became a bit repetitive after a few bites. The slice portion can be shared up to 3-4 people, in my opinion. If I were to return, I'd be interested in trying some of the dishes they highlight on social media rather than sticking to the more standard Italian options.
