Whether it's for class or for your own personal pleasure, they have something for everyone. Sometimes they have some amazing sales (like 6 Poirot books in a set for $22 as of 02 May 2026). The workers are very polite too, and they're willing to hold books for about a week if you need to sleep on it. Definitely check it out! It's very close to campus and you'll find what you need.

I don't think I really gave Moe's a second thought. What a mistake! Four floors of books, any and every genre you can imagine, and they have pretty cool merch. If I lived in the area, I think I would become a regular. Go here when you're in Berkeley and give them your money. And while you're there, give the photo of founder Moe Moskowitz who, at least according to Aaron Cometbus, was a real character, a grumpy griping dude who didn't care too much for pleasantries, didn't care too much about literate, but was authentic and able to build a really fabulous shop that's been going strong for nearly 70 years. No small feat.

Most of the stuff they have are packed up in the boxes that you can see in some of the pictures. You can also see they pulled a lot of stuff off the shelves and the prices are higher. I have a picture of two of the same books. One looks used. The other one looks new and one is 699 and the other one is 599. It isn't like one has a signature or anything. It's not special. It just cost more. The people who work there were kind of just hanging around in the back and not doing much. And they're already closed! I remember what the days when they were open until 10 11 o'clock at night but that was a long time ago back when they were relevant. I say it's karma because they didn't buy everybody's books. I have a picture of them saying they are no longer buying books. They don't buy books from Black people, full stop!And so. Bye!!! The problem they always said they had my books that my books are old. So why am I looking at a bookstore with nothing but old books. If they have separate pricing for Black people, they should just say that and suffered the consequences for that. This is a place I used to go to for all my books and I loved going there because I love getting a bargain, however, when I wanted to sell some books that's when things got funky. I find it interesting that I get more money from other places selling less books than I've ever gotten from them and I never did do my experiment where a white friend would walk in and sell my books so that I could see how much money she got. I bet she wouldn't have been told about how old her books are, which is hard to understand when the books are old as Methuselah! But, now they won't be my inspiration for purchasing off of Amazon, which is pretty much what they've become to me. I see a book in the store, look up the author and the book online, and if I can get it at my library or on Amazon, I will get it because I don't wanna waste money with people who say they buy books and don't buy them., full stop! It's a pretty good size they have plenty of books, kid activities, and music. They do not have a public bathroom. The prices are pretty reasonable. We were able to find a few things here.

I've been to Book Passage only twice now and had unpleasant experiences both times. It's sad because Book Passage has fantastic events, classes, speakers, and more. But the employees are SO useless and act like you're inconveniencing them when you ask for help to find things you'd like to buy. On my visit yesterday, I was shopping for some gifts for my former students and their parents (in SoCal). Naturally, this gift was to be special and I wanted to find the perfect thing for them. When I asked the woman (not sure of her name, but she has red hair in a long bob) where NorCal specific items were, she half motioned with her hand and said it was in the other building. When I went back to ask another question, she stared at me and then walked off. Another employee begrudgingly helped me. The two women working in the other building were deep in personal convo and looked SO annoyed when I asked about the gift items area. When I was rung up, there was no "thanks" or "have a good day", just silence. Wow, these ladies are so rude and such a buzzkill!! I debated leaving a review, but after I came to check other patrons experiences, I see this is their M.O and it should be a good warning to all that shop here.

I enjoy the Mysteries, Short Stories, and Essays. I asked a man where I could find them and he just said, "they're all in their respective sections." Hmmmm, I'm guessing Mystery section, so I go there and can't find it. A young lady came up and was helpful, she located the Short Stories. But the man just continued putting new books on shelves, he clearly could not be bothered to help a customer who was clearly not able to find the other volumes. I've been to other bookstores that benefit local libraries, and normally the collection is so sad. I'm an avid fiction reader, and pretty picky, and in their fiction section they had tons of great books published in the last couple years that I have loved (for around $5 for most books) In the travel section I found a fairly recent guidebook for Montreal which will be awesome for our upcoming trip. My husband couldn't stop raving about the 4D? John Wick DVDs he found for cheap that he said would easily go for 10x the price on Amazon. We also found lots of cute books for our toddlers that were 2-3 dollars each. Overall, very small shop but some great finds!!
