In 2013, I brought my boat to MarineMax Cocoa to have exhausts and risers replace. It was expensive and took much longer that estimated; but, everything worked. I recently brought my boat back in for service and diagnostics ... it was overheating. First thing I noticed is that it was a new team. After days of looking, they were able to find records of my boat and did some diagnostics. Alan Larose gave me the news ... with the style of the proverbial used car salesman, he went on and on about how a 15 year old boat used in salt water needs a new motor and that trying to fix this motor would be a lot of labor .... finally, he took a breath allowing me to get a word in just enough to point out that my 2008 boat was 10 years old. Without missing a beat, he claimed there was no difference ... the story was the same ... he continued to bully me into picking between an open check for labor to fix the motor or spend $17K on a repower. In a very condescending tone, he said he was trying to "educate me on boating in salt water" (Ive owned Sea Rays longer than this guy has lived). I excused myself from his store and said I need to think on it. I came back a few days later to pick up my boat for a second opinion. They released it to me once I paid the $350 bill ... though the engine belt was off and spark plugs lay in the bilge. The good news is that all that was wrong was a water pump. I had the engine serviced and pump replaced by Tom Houser and she is running great .... cost was $1500. Come on SeaRay ... we deserve better.
