Cooking with Mukti for a birthday celebration!

We celebrated a family birthday with a private cooking class for our family of 4 with Mukti. We could not have been happier. Mukti is warm, hospitable, and a wonderful teacher, and the food she helped us create was outstanding! Each dish was so wonderful that none of us could select a single favorite. Mukti accommodated all our dietary needs as vegetarians, and her teaching style was flexible and relaxed, while clearly focused on helping us learn the subtleties of Indian cooking. Thank you, Mukti, for a perfect evening!

Mukti's class is the real deal! It has brought me so much joy this past week cooking with and for my family and friends, and I think all of the recipes will be weekly staples (at least until I can take another class!) I'm so grateful to know I can prepare healthy organic and incredible tasting Indian meals at home with time and patience. I learned so much in the kitchen and was happy I could take a "treasure chest" of spices home for a very reasonable additional cost. I agree with others here: not only was the teaching an incredible value, the meal we shared at the end of class was the best Indian meal I've ever eaten! It was a hands on learning experience I won't ever forget. Thank you, Mukti! Check out her website for all the class offerings and look out for her cookbook soon!

My husband and I had so much fun cooking with Mukti! We made 3 dishes in 90 minutes (see photo!) and thank goodness there was 2 of us b/c I forgot to prep the ingredients so one of us was chopping while the other cooked. I LOVE Indian food but never had the courage to make it myself. Mukti taught us so much while making the process very accessible. I'm ready to cook these dishes again AND I've already signed up for another class to expand my recipes.

Mukti's cooking class was a wonderful experience and worth every penny! I was looking for a fun and memorable way to surprise my friend (who LOVES Indian food, and food in general) for her birthday and she and her husband and I had an amazing afternoon, learning far more than we anticipated. The skills Mukti teaches are not only relevant to the recipes she is teaching but will influence how you cook everything for the rest of your life. I was so impressed, she was so kind and welcoming and patient, and we had a bonding experience that we will keep in our hearts forever. I can also honestly say, Mukti has ruined any chance that I will ever crave store-bought frozen Indian again. The meal we made and shared at the end of class was one of the best I've ever eaten - the spices!  I can't wait to share my new cooking skills with my friends and family. Thank you, Mukti!

Mukti's class was amazing. She invites you into her home and you are treated as family as you learn multiple authentic Indian recipes. It is great hands-on learning and it was a great lesson in not only specific Indian recipes, but lessons in essential cooking tips as well. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to expand their culinary knowledge!

What a great learning experience, I learned so much about the Indian culture, food, spices and just so many tricks of the kitchen that are applicable to any cuisine. Being in Mukti's kitchen is as authentic eastern Indian that you can get. And she really is all about fresh herbs and roasts & grounds them herself, you've seen smell and taste how imperative this process is!

The GF and I really enjoyed this class. It was intimate as there weren't that many students. Mukti has a science background which blends nicely into being able to explain the what and why behind the cooking. Indian food is no longer intimidating. Food was also pretty healthy. We felt good after the meal. Not full in a bad way at all. In addition to becoming more comfortable with using spices in our cooking we also took away many basic but critical cooking Skills like knife care and cutting onions.

On the menu was Haitian soup, Trinidadian Doubles, Dominican rice and beans and Jerk Chicken. The chef was warm and kind and very thorough. She gave us the option off adding heat with a scotch bonnet pepper and showed us a couple of knife techniques to make cutting vegetables easier. We were supplied with aprons and name tags and worked in teams and chatted while chopping, seasoning and cooking. I appreciated the ice water and stools available to ensure I was comfortable for those hours of class. The food came out amazing and flavorful and there was plenty leftover to take home. Its great for a date night or friend group activity or even just solo bc everyone became so friendly.

Chef Sue was both personable and informative, and her demos were easy to follow along with the written recipes. During times when food was cooking or cooling, Sue also showed us some knife skills basics/tricks. The class went on for about 3 hours, including the time to eat at the end. I really enjoyed the experience, but in the future would choose a class with a more substantial output. The Latkes and Sufganiyot were both fried carbs, and we ended up grabbing dinner immediately after because we were still hungry for a real meal. Other than that, would recommend!

The class changed my entire perspective on how I view cooking, and I love it! Ronna took the fear out of cooking for me and removed all the blocks I had from getting myself into the kitchen. She pretty much took the stress out of cooking for me, and not only made me feel like a better mom and wife by taking the guilt out of not having home cooked meals on the table every single day, and teaching me creative ways to get meals on the table quickly, she really helped me discover a new creative side to me that I didn't think I was capable of in the kitchen! I will use the tools I learned at Purple Kale Kitchenworks for the rest of my life and will share them with others I know. She taught me things I didn't even think of doing in my kitchen, even after going to culinary school to learn how to cook! I highly recommend her class!

The group was small, just 6 people, so we got almost a private class. Entire class was well planned and organized. Each of us got some hands-on stuff to do, we asked questions, took notes, enjoyed our meal, yet we ran exactly on time. John provided a lot of information not just on specific dishes we cooked, but also on Thai cuisine fundamentals, ingredients, and main tastes. He also shared some cool cooking tips we found useful though we are not cooking beginners. We ended up with a plentiful freshly made Thai dinner consisting of Tom Yum soup with Shrimp, Fried Fish in Tamarind sauce, Thai Red Curry Chicken, and sticky rice. All the dishes came out delicious and tasted like in a Thai restaurant! And most important we've successfully reproduced these dishes at home one week later! Thank you John, and The HCNY Crew for the great experience! We highly recommend Home Cooking NY to all who likes and learns to cook!

Called to the place and Jason returned my call. Reserved over the phone no problem. Queens Blvd is very difficult to park. Luckily there's a bus stop in front of the store and I did a quick drop off. Jason specified it is a drop off class, so parents can't observe. I was allowed to go down where the class was during the last 10 min. Instructor chef Nicole was very friendly and told me how my kids do. They made dumplings, blanch veggies, noodles and biscuits. Kids were divided into small groups to cook different recipes. At the end there's the tasting where I joined. They will also give you the recipes to take home. Kids have tons of fun and would very much come back again. Overall, definitely recommend. NY only has one young chef so far. They are opening another one at Garden City but don't know when. It said coming soon on website.
