Usual American Legion setup of bar that serves food. Interior is quiet enough for conversation,…read moreespecially in the booth & table dining area away from the bar. Decor is seriously dated but serviceable. You don't come here for elegant dining. It's a place to gather, socialize, have a few drinks, & chow down on middle American meat centric food. Food was okay to good, albeit standard fare, at moderate price point. I ordered flatiron steak medium rare with fries, house salad, and some sort of brown ale, which was as dark a beer as they had, that had decent if moderate roastiness in the flavor department. Salad was typical house salad of iceberg lettuce, chunk of tomato, a couple cucumber slices, & shredded cheese. Vinaigrette was okay middle of the road bottled version. Steak had good flavor, being sprinkled with chopped garlic, and was tender. Demerit for it being pretty much well done vs medium rare as ordered. Accompanying fries were delivered hot with crispy outside, tender inside. Deep fried chicken tenders of dining partner were standard in taste & texture. Okay to good.

I would likely not go back to eat there unless for the experience with someone who hasn't been there before. Chicken Parmesan was a ball shaped portion of breaded chicken which was huge and tasted good. The "house made" pasta seemed like generic store bought and was very dry and room temperature, with maybe 3/4 cup sauce you couldn't really tell was there due to the dry pasta. Did not have room for dessert. There were many cocktails that looked unique and not sure of prices.

The restaurant itself is located behind a false safe door and upon arrival you'll need to talk with the host to receive the code for the evening to open the door. Inside the restaurant they've done a great job on the ambiance- brick walls and lighting that definitely evokes the thoughts of a bygone era. The menu is limited to a few classic pasta dishes, pizza and charcuterie. The cocktail list is solid with a wide range of prohibition era cocktails. The service, while slow, was also very friendly and inviting. Without a doubt the biggest fault is the price point. Each pasta dish is 40$, pizza minimum of 25$ and the cocktails 17$. I can say we enjoyed everything but it also didn't achieve the "wow" factor I'd expect for pasta at that price. The portions are huge, arguably too big - would have nice to have a half portion for 25$. I'd also appreciate some more classic pasta options - carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana etc. As is, the current menu is too simple for people to want to return often at this price point. For cocktails (again 17$ is a high price point) I expect clear ice and the old fashioned to not have sugar sitting on the bottom - both signs of a less than ideal old fashioned. The idea is excellent and I'm hoping they will continue to evolve as time goes on. Some simple changes and it could be a place to return to often... as is now it'll be a while before we return.
