We stopped here during a random trip to Hutchinson, MN and were pleasantly surprised! The bartender was very friendly and the Christmas themed cocktails were amazing! Opening night jitters, but I'm sure they'll be worked out. The kitchen was a bit behind, and the hostess was struggling with her role, but the food was good and our server was very friendly. I ordered the Cajun Chicken, and the cream sauce was delicious & the diced potatoes were amazing. My hubby had the turkey club, and he liked the garlic aioli, but did say the bread was very basic, almost store bought flavor. Glad to see a new, independent restaurant open in Hutch. Also glad they bought this old cafe & made it into this awesome spot. Beautiful 2 story restaurant with a bar on each level, as well as a patio. Odd placement in the center of the building for the hostess stand though. We'll be back and hopefully everything will be flowing smoothly by then. read more

I have been here twice in the last year. It's not my favorite place to go when I'm looking for a place to eat in Hutchinson. But my wife likes it so we go. Their food is good for the price. But it's nothing that special as it's just a normal burger, pasta, and steak place. The food reminds me of a chain restaurant and not a family owned place. But that being said they do have shows upstairs that you can get tickets too. I noticed on their website that there was some upcoming comedy shows, dueling, pianos, and music shows that you could get tickets for. They also offer a dinner and show ticket. That's something that you don't get in this area unless you drive to the cities. If that's something you would like the. Come try this place out. Like I said the food is alright but it's probably worth it with a show to go see right after. read more

We went with old friends from Hutch, a group of six for lunch. It was a Thursday, about 12:30pm and the place was about 8o% full. Everybody was pleased with their orders. My meatloaf dinner was hot, tasty, and a generous portion. Service was good. We stayed nearly an hour after we finished eating, talking, and there was no pressure to leave, and the server kept our water glasses full. There is a lots of variety on the menu. The River House was our destination after a bike ride on the Luce Line State Trail. We had 10 in our party. Our server, Monika, was an excellent server! She served the entire 10 in our party with professionalism and kindness (only a couple of the riders had been here before). She split an entree on the bill correctly (WOW!) for a couple that split an entree! I'm amazed at the quality of this restaurant in downtown Hutchinson! The venue itself is newly redone in a tasteful and comfortable setting. The parking lot behind the building was closed due to construction but we all found street parking quite easy on a Sunday evening. It is a little more upscale than I would have guessed for Hutchinson, but it was a very welcoming. Next time, I'm getting the Prime Rib! read more

First time in the city and I wanted a local spot for the trip home. I had a simple apple salad with some yummy stuff in it, with a thick apple vinaigrette. What got my interest up was the goat cheese which I love. It was a good size and before I knew it I had eaten all of it. I usually don't finish salads but this was so good with that dressing and all the apples and candied nuts. A nice, casual ambiance. Very enjoyable with great service. read more

We had a made a reservation for 8 and when we arrived, there was a table open but not ready for our party and we ended up having to move tables together and moving the chairs ourselves. They also sat us right by the front door which was not a great place for a bigger group. The waitress was friendly but didn't take our menus after we ordered. Also to note: there is an ADDITIONAL 4% FEE for using a credit card- understandable and written on the menu but just be aware. The food was decent- I got the turkey club sandwich. The bread was toasted but the meat was cold, maybe that's how it was supposed to be? Nevertheless, the facility was pretty and clean and the food was good. Good place to go for great burgers. Their after 5 dinner menu is pretty good. Had Salmon dinner, whipped potatoes and steamed vegetables. Dinner was excellent. Came here for the dueling piano and dinner event. The tables were very crowded together upstairs so they could cram as many people in as possible. I don't really enjoy dining shoulder to shoulder with people I don't know. Luckily, the couple in our table failed to read the instructions on the tickets and came too late to be served food and turned into a Karen. Ended up giving us a little extra room though. I ordered a basic cheese burger. I was nervous to go basic but after reading over the menu, it's all very basic and uninspired. I asked for no tomato... so I got tomato. The lettuce was flaccid, soggy and not crispy. I asked for cheese and it wouldn't melt. The burger wasn't hot enough to melt it and wasn't put on it while it was on the grill. The fries looked better than they were. Frozen Ore-ida fries that were under cooked. I ended up asking for bbq sauce and was told she'd got get it right away, let me know she was still getting it, that she then had it out in and was waiting on the kitchen and then I was done and didn't need it. She apologized she was unable to get it. The bbq sauce will pop back up so stay tuned. My wife got the bourbon glazed salmon. The glaze was more of a jarred sauce that was very sweet. The salmon was very undercooked and probably should have sent it back. Potatoes were fine. Steamed veggies were basic steamed veggies. When we got the bill, we didn't get the credit for food that we were supposed to get with the dueling piano ticket purchased. It was mentioned and the waitress returned with the new bill. Unlike the first one, the new one now had a charge for bbq sauce. The same one that never arrived. We came in out of town to go here with family. Unfortunately, my low expectations were met. The inside is fine. The remodeled outside looks like a a 1990s bank. The menu is uninspired and there's no culinarily creativity to it. Food was good server was absolutely rude and disrespectful. we had 2 kids and a stroller with us (with a 3 week old baby inside) and she tried to tell us we can't sit at the table the host put us at along with throwing straws onto the table. She never took our orders for our kids drinks until we called her over to do so and when she finally did she had a nasty attitude. By the end of our meal we were irritated and ready to leave she kept walking past our table and ignoring us. We finally got our bill and we were trying to figure out our tip with 2 crying kids we left OVER a 17% tip (because we have kids) and as we are walking out she says "oh wow cheapskates". I had the eggs Benedict, my husband had a pancake and 1/2 order of the biscuits and gravy, daughter had a Denver omelet, and her boyfriend had ages Benedict. Food was excellent, fast service. Visiting Hutchinson, MN for a reunion I had the opportunity to try out the River House Kitchen. I'd heard a lot about it but it IS a restaurant and it needs to be judged by their food. I have visited restaurant all over the world, including some of the best steak restaurants in the US. I was really looking forward to a visit. Lets touch on the help first, since this is your first contact with the restaurant. We arrived about 5 PM and asked to be seated on the ground floor at a table near the window. The hostess said they were going to put us on the 2nd floor... I again said NO, we want to sit on the ground floor. I pointed out that there were TWO tables by the windows and asked why we couldn't sit there. She refused to seat us there and reiterated that we HAD to be seated on the 2nd floor, even though there were numerous tables occupied on the first floor. So she said to follow her as she went up the stairs. NEVER in my experience have I ever had someone deny a seating location AND tell me where I had to sit, when open tables were available. Courtesy score: ZERO Idiocy Score: 100. So we get seated upstairs and ordered a variety of dishes. One steak ($34) a pasta dish, the tacos, a hamburger and salads. One of our group asked the waitress for some Parmesan cheese and her response was incredible... She whined that she would have to go all the way down stairs to get it. Courtesy score: ZERO. Who wants to put up with a whiney waitress. If you didn't want to have to go ALL THE WAY downstairs, you should have seated us there as we asked earlier. When the food came it was accompanied by the salads that we had also ordered. You DON"T serve a salad with the main course because if you eat the salad first (customary) you then wind up with cold food... Duh! She didn't want to have to make another trip downstairs so she just served them together. Lack of waiting skills... 100% The food came... mine, the steak... was abysmal. It was the first 3/8" thick ribeye I had ever seen. When presented by the waitress I noticed there was no steak knife on the table and was about to ask for one when I noticed bit of the knife's greasy handle sticking out from under my steak. The accompanying mixed vegetables were nothing more than a Normandy mix of of frozen vegetables like you get from Costco. Scattered all around the plate. It looked like a 5 yr. old had put it together. The hamburger, if you'd call it that, was a reheated frozen beef patty, just like the ones at Costco only lukewarm, instead of frozen. It was tasteless and dry. You'd have been FAR better off with a Quarter Pounder at McDonalds. Seriously... you can't even get a decent hamburger to the table? After finishing my (out of the bag..) salad. I tried to eat my, now cold, "steak". Obviously an ungraded piece of cheap steak, full of fat and gristle. It was a joke. Undoubtedly, the worst piece of $34 steak I've ever had. Will I ever eat at River House... Nope. If I want to drop $50 on a dinner I want it to be at least as good, preferably better... than what I can prepare at home. Save your money and find a better restaurant. One of the things people had told me about the restaurant was how much money the owners had spent on creating it. It really was a disappointment, a nice venue with literally lousy food. They should have spent a little more time on staff training, chef training and simple courtesy. All of which tells me to go elsewhere. To top it all off, we paid our bill and were just about to exit the rear door when a waitress stopped us to say we had been given the wrong bill... It took 10 minutes of them talking to each other, while we waited and waited for them to fix the issue. When it was all over we had to pay an additional$10 or so. This would NEVER happen at a restaurant I've ever visited. Make everyone wait around while you guys try to figure out what happened, for a measly $10. Doesn't say much about how you respect your customer's time. Shame on you! That alone is enough for me to eat elsewhere, in the future. read more

Good service but the food is pretty bad. Ordered a salad with "apples, walnuts and goat cheese." It had very little apple, walnuts and goat cheese, but had more red onion than everything else. I don't like red onion - by the time I picked it out, I was left with a few bites of lettuce. I ordered it with chicken, but the chicken was obviously cooked earlier, then heated. It was so dry I could not even get it down. Dressings are obviously from a commercial jar - super sweet and a weird texture. I paid, then went somewhere else to eat lunch. read more

I want this restaurant to succeed this town so much so hoping this can be constructive. Loved the building and the atmosphere. We had breakfast and the Eggs Benedict was disappointing - there is another restaurant in town that does a really good version of it. 3 slices of deli meat isn't going to cut it - maybe even just a ham steak? Dinner today was also underwhelming with exception of the crab cakes which were delicious. The Ultimate BLT was dry with nothing ultimate about it - a couple pieces of thin bacon on dry toast. My husband had flat bread which was nothing to write home about. Out of a couple of the top entrees. And then we tried desert which was absolutely bland. Maybe all the hype about the building and all that was going into it just led me to think the menu would be spectacular instead of just average.
