Everyone is welcome no matter your experience level and you actually feel that. It does not feel like a snooty studio that requires you to wear the latest yoga clothing to fit in. I also noticed that the studio is so clean! It feels much cleaner than other places that I have attended that may have dust or hair on the floor. Every time I go, its spotless which helps me not get distracted. As for the classes, they are physically challenging and restorative. I would highly recommend.

Yoga offers physical and mental benefits that I don't find in other exercises. Dora's studios give me that. When I moved from West Seattle I tried out a number of studios on the Eastside. I found a few that had the mindfulness of yoga but lacked the physical challenge. Others had the physical challenge but lacked the mindfulness. So I continued to travel to West Seattle from the Eastside. It was well worth it. AND now Spira has a studio in Issaquah! I'm so happy that my favorite yoga studio is closer to home!

I never thought of myself as the kind of person who does any kind of fitness classes, but here I am showing up and having lots of fun! The class size is fairly small, which is great because each of us gets personal attention. We spend quite a bit of time experimenting with the poses and props to find what works for our specific bodies. As a plus size woman, this is really important to me, because my body simply doesn't move the same way a smaller person's body would. Saralyn's teaching style is a great match for this type of class because she's not afraid to be vulnerable herself. She sometimes refers to notes, she can't magically do every pose known to man, and she uses props herself in many poses. Those small things make me feel a lot more comfortable not being particularly "good" at this myself. In each class we take a bit of time to check in with our bodies, and she helps keep us centered and present within our bodies throughout the class. I never feel like my bigger body is a problem for her, and it's clear that she's genuinely interested in how my body moves and the modifications that might make a pose work for me. In fact, last week I *finally* was able to do child's pose in a way that felt good and opened up my hips a bit for the first time, using some props and Saralyn's guidance. I also did a teeny tiny backbend for the first time, which is something I never thought my body would be able to do. Overall, I highly recommend YogaFamily's mind and body positive class and am excited to try some of their other classes as well.

Perhaps the best part of Renee's class is her attitude and personality, she takes the time to get to know and talk to her students which allows her to make each student feel comfortable and able to relax and truly benefit fully for the hour on the mat. When I moved to Washington, I was so nervous about finding a new yoga teacher. I was in Vancouver, WA when I finally found a teacher who seemed to do vinyasa yoga. He told me to go up north and there I found Shilpa! She's a spectacular teacher. Patient, kind, grounding, and motivating I am grateful to practice with her on Sunday mornings. When the pandemic began, Shilpa moved her classes to virtual, Zoom live classes. I need these to make sure I do my practice! Otherwise I would not commit one hour to my practice every week. The way she structures her classess incorporate meditation, asanas, strength, stamina, and flexibility. It's also convenient for my partner to do the class with me at home. I highly recommend her classes and I hope you find time to join her.

The Vibe: I Got You I walked into Be Yoga after a FULL…read moreweekend: New places. New people. New studios. Lots of movement. And then... Be. Cat greeted me at the front desk with a huge smile. "First time?" Yes. "Welcome!" She gave me a mini tour. Handed me a complimentary mat. Sent me toward the warm room. Already, I could feel the pace changing. The Guide: Julia * Be Flow We began seated. Gentle head rolls. Easy movement. Nothing hurried. Julia gradually brought us into a low-to-the-ground flow: Cheetah. One-Legged Upward-Facing Dog. Wild Thing. The room was cozy warm rather than hot. And after a weekend filled with movement, cozy warm felt exactly right. The practice gradually opened. Julia offered options for Bird of Paradise. Then Flying Pigeon. Challenges offered. Choices given. And then, somehow... class was over. Too soon. So I walked back to the front desk. "I'd love to stay for Be Still." But... The ClassPass window had already closed. Cat barely hesitated. They were offering a complimentary class. She had me. Just like that... I was back in. The Return: Be Still Back into the warm room. Back onto the mat. Back toward the ground. This time, even less to do. Julia guided us into long, supported shapes. In Deer Pose, we lowered onto bolsters. Drop. Allow. Each pose removed another layer of effort. Soften. Loosen. Deepen. Before Savasana, Julia offered one final shape: Blocks supporting the neck and head. The throat opened. The front of the body softened. And then... Savasana. Just... Be Still. The Tribe Sometimes you learn what a studio values before anyone tells you. A huge smile when you walk in. A complimentary mat when you don't have one. And when you want to stay... they make it easy. Small things. Except they aren't. Space & Place Be Yoga is beautiful: Warm wood. Soft green. Natural light. Enormous windows. Little details everywhere. The Shift I arrived after a weekend of doing: Driving. Exploring. Meeting. Moving. Flowing. I walked into a studio called Be Yoga. Took Be Flow. Stayed for Be Still. Field Note: Sometimes being is simply letting this moment be enough.

Kirkland is completely inconvenient and out of the way for me, but I'm willing to make the drive any time in order to attend Anna's class. She is intelligent, sweet, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable about the practice of yoga during pregnancy. I love the way the class is structured, beginning with a check in and conversation about various pregnancy related topics, breathing and meditation exercises, prenatal yoga practice that is specifically tailored to each person in the class, and savasana to end. The class usually goes about 20 to 30 minutes later than scheduled, which means you're really getting your bang for your buck ($14 per class for a 10 class package). This is such a wonderful, healthy way to stay active during your pregnancy, and also prepare your body for labor and delivery. Prenatal yoga has helped alleviate my back pain, improve my circulation, and even help with digestion. It's also a great way to relax and de-stress, and provide some quiet time for me and my baby.
