Majorly disappointed in the Kimber company. They hired him to come up with some improvements, then wouldn't pay him. Next, I purchased an extended Kimber magazine for the Micro 9. There is a gap between the butt of the gun and the base of the magazine leaving a portion of the magazine exposed. REALLY!!! How stupid it that! I purchased this gun in March and carry it in my holster everyday. The bottom screw head on the left side of the grip is rusted. You would think that paying a premium would get you a better quality gun. Absolutely not the $800 price. I purchased a Walther for $345 and it appears to be a better quality.

I liked that it was a 15 minute bus ride from my home. From the Bedford Park subway stop along the…read more4, the Bee Line's 20 bus drops off on Central Park Ave and McLean. From there, it's only a short walk to Coyne Park. The elderly gentlemen that were running the place when I went were nice enough. Since I don't have a permit in New York, they provide a package that includes lane time, rental of a .22 rifle, 100 rounds of ammo, 2 targets, and eye/ear protection. As of this post, $58 per person. Note: When I've gone to ranges in Arizona, if I'm new to the place, I'm required to review safety rules and/or watch a safety video. At Coyne Park, I was asked if I had experience shooting. I replied yes and was left to my own devices. Not sure what to make of that. The range officer(?) showed me the operation of the rifle which was simple enough. Although I didn't take note of it at the time, the rifle looked like and probably was a polymer Ruger 10/22 with a 10 round magazine. It looked and felt like the equipment was well-maintained as I experienced zero malfunctions. The mechanism to place your targets at the desired distance was operated by hand wheel. There's a certain charm to it, so no points off for that. The facility itself was clean and uncluttered. I have to admit that I've been spoiled by the quality of facilities at the Scottsdale Gun Club, but I suppose that for a public range in New York, beggars can't be choosers. Overall, it was a positive experience. I plan on bringing some family and friends here to introduce them to the shooting sports. I don't want their only exposure to firearms to be be from television and movies. Coyne Park Rifle and Pistol Range seems like a decent enough place to give them a taste of what it's all about. Afterward, the nearby strip mall would be a nice place to grab some grub or coffee.

Nearby land, on the other side of a hill was developed into large expensive homes. One of the new residents claimed being hit by a bullet fragment in her yard. While the path of travel would have been impossible, the town of Greengurgh made a big deal of this in the papers. The town sought to ban all outdoor ranges and the landowner (Con Edison) decided not to renew the lease. This range operated without incident for many decades. No proof of the "accident" was ever made public and the range is gone. This seems to be a case of local wealthy people trying to rid the area of shooters and our 2nd amendment rights. They built their "McMansion" next door to the range, then used their money and influence to shut it down. The local cowardly Democrats just fell in line.

I recently attended the Westchester Firearms Safety 16 hour Course on March 15-16, 2025 to fulfill…read morethe NY requirement for CCW application and I can confidently say this was the best firearms training I have ever taken! Having held a CCW in multiple other states for 23 years and being a military veteran with significant prior firearms exposure, I have taken my fair share of training courses but none have matched the professionalism, depth, and structure of this one. Day 1: Firearms Safety The safety training was on point--thorough, clear, and structured in a way that catered to everyone, from first-time gun owners to experienced CCW holders. The instructors ensured that every single participant left with a full understanding of safe firearm handling. The multiple layers of safety reinforcement--classroom instruction, two separate mock firearm simulations with dummy guns, and live range training--ensured that no detail was overlooked. Day 2: Legal Instruction & Range Training The legal portion was exceptionally well-delivered. As a recent law school graduate, I was already familiar with firearms laws, but the way the instructors broke down complex legal concepts made it understandable for any layperson to grasp with confidence. The range training was perfectly structured, allowing for progressive learning--starting with drills and simulated exercises before firing 15 live rounds into targets. The instructors patiently guided each participant, ensuring they built confidence and proper technique, whether they were first-time shooters or seasoned carriers. Exceptional Instructors: True Professionals Instructor Joe Martini - Joe's extensive credentials speak for themselves, but his dedication to firearm safety and skill-building is what truly sets him apart. A true expert and highly trained instructor, Joe's knowledge and ability to teach at all skill levels made this course an exceptional experience. Instructor Sgt. Paul Conforti - With a background as a retired police officer and FBI/NRA-certified firearms instructor, Sgt. Conforti brought real-world experience and tactical analysis expertise to the class. His instruction was clear, no-nonsense, and incredibly valuable for anyone serious about responsible firearm ownership. Final Thoughts This course is a MUST (literally) for anyone looking to obtain a CCW or simply improve their firearm knowledge and safety. The professionalism, thoroughness, and real-world training scenarios provided far exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a new gun owner or a seasoned shooter, this course will make you better, safer, and more prepared. I highly recommend Westchester Firearms Safety Course to anyone serious about firearm safety and training!
