Mount Van Hoevenberg is a premiere location for all your cross-country skiing and sliding needs! What an adventure! Managed by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, this location is perfect for beginners and athletes alike! As a new cross-country ski owner, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to test out my new gear on the very well-maintained trails of this complex. My day started at the new Mountain Pass Lodge where I was able to peruse the retail space, obtain my RFID pass, and check out their food court/event space. I was on my skis in no time checking out the extensive trail map. From the lodge, it was seconds to the first biathlon range and another stone's throw to check out the 1980 Stadium space. The recreational trails are clearly marked on both map and trail with adequate descriptions of difficulty. Lots of fun ups and downs, bridges, tunnels, scenery. My husband and I caught Olympic fever on our most recent visit (how could we not with the 2022 Winter Olympics coinciding with our time in the area!). We decided to splurge and participate in the Bobsled Experience. Their half-mile track zooming by at 55 mph is thrilling for sure. On the day of our reservation, we were shuttled to the top of the track, fitted for safety helmets, and paired with a bobsled driver. Unique to be able to experience something like this. When they say it is not recommended for individuals with neck/back and heart problems, take their advice... it is a bumpy and jarring (but incredibly fun) ride! Parking is plentiful. Everyone we encountered was very nice and helpful. I can't wait to go back!

I'm surprised to be the first to recommend the Cliffside Coaster -- it is FANTASTIC! And what a unique experience to get to go alongside the bobsled course used in both Winter Olympics that were hosted in Lake PLacid -- 1932 & 1980. As the marketing materials say -- "a chance to experience the old bobsled course with a modern twist." You really don't have to do anything except sit and enjoy the ride -- but if you want to "depress" the handles, you will go faster. I can't say it any better than "Thrilllist" does -- "The longest mountain roller coaster in the United States just opened for visitors, and it's no ordinary ride. The 1.4-mile-long Cliffside Coaster emulates an Olympic bobsled experience, both in design and terrain. Located on Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, New York, the coaster runs alongside actual bobsled tracks used in the 1932 & 1980 Winter Games. The ride is equipped with an audio system that helps visitors understand what it was like to be an Olympic bobsledder as they maneuver up the hill. Once the bobsleigh completes its climb, riders gain control, navigating the track's twists and turns at their own pace." Have fun! Which is guaranteed!!!

We stayed at the High Peaks resort right next door, and their boats weren't out for the season yet - Mirror Lake Boat Rental to the rescue! NOTE: if you are planning to go soon (this review is being written on 4/27/21) this boat rental shop will be VERY DIFFICULT to find. You need to look for the sign I have in my photos that tells you to text the number provided, then follow the dirt path behind the construction to the little desk that will give you instructions. This shop technically does have open hours, but we had to text the owner Greg upon arrival and then waited for him to come down and rent us a boat. In the future, I would recommend just texting before heading down there and meeting him when he's already there. Check out their website for full details of cost and times and such. $30/hour for most of your standard boats, including the fun bikes! We opted for a paddle boat so we could save money and be out on the water together. The hour flew by even though it was a little chilly when the wind blew. Cash only, which is inconvenient but understandable considering this biz is fully outside, and there's an ATM at the resort across the street if you need it. This is a great way to see Mirror Lake from a new vantage point and is TONS of fun. Happy boating!

Day 1 was okay weather-wise, however the boat itself was dirty, all of the seats were ripped and the carpet became soaked through from the underside. I brought it back in because there was something clearly wrong with the way the motor was sputtering but I was told it sounded normal. Day 2 it rained all day and when I called to discuss this with someone, I was told then owners would need to call me back. I called back 3 more times throughout the day and never heard back from the owners, and of course they charged me full price for the rainy day. I eventually got my money back after going through a dispute process with my cc company. It was clear that the employee that helped me was frustrated and knew he worked for shady owners. I know there are not a lot of options on Lake Placid, but do yourself a favor and find a boat somewhere else. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would.

This activity is good for families and friends. If you're going with children, make sure that you have enough adults to paddle with you for a more exciting and safer experience. Second of all, I have never experienced surfing on a raft until I went with this group! The 4-5 hour drive from the city is totally worth it. It is such a cool experience to surf the raft in the surf holes. Our guide, Mark, is so experienced that we were able to surf almost all the surf holes and enjoy the rush of water as we were surfing. The experience was a good mix of adrenaline rush and relaxation. There were parts where we just freely swam in the water, there was a part where we jumped off an 8-foot rock, there was also a part where you can ride the front of the boat as if you were riding a mechanical bull. This is going to be an annual trip and I look forward to the next year! I forgot to mention - their porta potty's are the cleanest porta potties I have ever seen in my life. They have hand sanitizers and all the supplies you need.
