A gate code is needed to access the campground. We rented a cabin here. There are four. Two of them are 'deluxe' and have indoor cook tops. The others do not allow indoor cooking and have grills outside. The kitchen was very well kitted with everything you could need. The Deluxe cabin we rented was decorated in a cabin style with bear and moose motif items. A table for two in the kitchen, a couch for two or three and a nice rocker. A small desk is in the corner of the livingroom with a kitchen chair for seating. Hooks for coats and a place for shoes by the door. The gas fireplace is shut off in the summer because the pilot heats up the cabin. They are on from Septemer 1st. The bedroom has a queen bed, (linens and blankets provided) full dresser, bedside tables, another kitchen chair (a total of four in the cabin) and luggage rack. Two narrow closets included hangers, extra pillows and towels for the pool or hot tub. Three quarter bath was well maintained. Two bath towels and one hand towel. Hand soap on vanity. Hair dryer and extra TP under sink. Shelves for toiletries. Clothes hook on back of door. Two seats and a table are on the front porch. Our parking space was in front of the porch. A picnic table and firepit are to the right of the porch, at the end of the parking space. Our porch faced the gravel road into the campground. The campground is tiered from the road down to the river with camper spots on each tier. No spots are directly on the river. A field designated as a dog exercise area is next to the river, then a small, rocky beach to the river. The road noise is heard throughout the campground, even at the brook where the river babbles over the stones, which is very pleasant. The onsite store rents tubes for riding the river. A path to the left of the dog area ends where you can put the tube in the water, ride it to the end of the beach and repeat the process. Laundry, public bathrooms and shower bathrooms are in a newer, climate controlled building near the playground. A pass code is needed to enter. Two pools and a hot tub are near the office/store. Mini-golf is behind the store. Dump station on the way out near the dumpsters. Gravel roads are maintained. Some site have full hook-up, fire pit and picnic table. Very pet friendly.

Check in was fast and our spot was easy to find and get into, with fantastic views of the mountains. Going to be a wonderful morning to wake up, and sit outside to these views. The place has a beautiful pool and looks incredibly inviting even though it's a little brisk out right now. Big WIN on not only accepting pets but actually being pet friendly!!! So far the sunset on the mountains is certainly no disappointment. Staff is friendly and keep this place clean for sure. The bathrooms are spotless and nice decorated, showers are clean and laundry onsite right next to the bathrooms. Site hook ups are easy and placed by each other makes for simple parking and zero guessing. Their country store is cute and stocked and they have plenty of local dry wood at a reasonable cost. If you ever plan to visit Vermont to see the fall colors, this has got to be a go to place on your…read morelist. The views are stunning, beautiful and will surely mesmerize you. Once you cross the the auto toll road and the gondola ride (for Mt. Mansfield) you'll be entering this zigzag, twisty scenic road which will bring you to the notch. The enire road is breathtaking. It's scenic during peak fall foilage and you'll see people stopping along to take pictures. The road is very narrow and there would be cars parked on either side so i'd recommend to drive slow and yield to people walking along and the oncoming traffic. There's a visitor center which will help you find your way to a couple of hikes/ trails. There were also porta potty which were clean. The parking is limited and you'll have to wait and search through. During our visit, there was no one in the visitor center. There are helpful signs and boards to guide you along the trails there which was helpful. The sterling pond hike starts from the visitor center and it is about a 1,000 ft elevation total. The smugglers cave is a few steps away from this visitor center. The entire smugglers notch is scenic and makes for great photo opportunities. There are a couple of great hikes/ trails from here and i'd reommend anyone visiting vermont to check out this place during the fall season.

This was a severe hardship for northern Vermonters, since Montreal was closer than other markets in the US. Many local people continued illegal trade with Canada, herding cattle and carrying other goods through the Notch. Later, fugitive slaves used the Notch as an escape route to Canada. During the Prohibition years, liquor was smuggled from Canada over the improved road built in 1922. My mother and I just rode through and it was miles of the park with different areas to explore. The we're many hikers and explorers out. All I can say is the mountains are beautiful and the atmosphere is amazing. I would definitely want to come back in fall to see the trees change colors.

The campsites are separated enough from each other to be comfortable and private. Some sites are on the lakeshore (usually booked far ahead) and others in the wooded areas but still with easy proximity to the water. Some are shady, some open (wonderful for the night sky!) and they all have decent picnic tables and fire pits (some with hearths). We picked a site that was entirely grassy--it had no gravel or dirt--so we enjoyed comfortable camping barefoot. It was lovely. Bathrooms were pretty clean albeit with a tad of outhouse aroma. I saw them cleaning the showers one day, they spend about 15 minutes on each one with a pressure washer, so it's a good thorough cleaning. I had a great shower there. Lots of hooks and a good shower head with abundant hot water. The staff was very friendly and helpful, firewood portions were generous, ice is also available for purchase as well as kayak rentals. There's a boat launch right in the campground so if you bring a boat you can land it right there (no dock, however). Biking on the island is easy, it's a 2-mile ride to the little town with a nice little grocery store and bait shop. They have groceries, beer and wine, meats, a little deli, and coffee. We biked to the ferry dock (~3 mi) and took the ferry across to Plattsgurgh (6 mi along a separate bike trail into town from the dock) to do laundry and have dinner. It's a nice excursion, about 20 miles riding. Although plattsburgh is not particularly scenic they do have some nice lakshore/harbor views and monuments. One could bike to Burlington, but I think it might be 20 miles or a little more each way--it includes paved lakeshore trails and a bike/foot causeway across a part of lake Champlain. This campground would be a nice base camp to experience Burlington. It's less than a half hour drive and a much nicer campground than North Beach for sure. This is a wonderful place to camp. We were very sad to leave!

Minimum 2 night stay and while you stay there, you can have free access to the day use state parks such as Sandbar State Park (not dog friendly) or Niquette Bay State Park (dog friendly) to name a few. We stayed on site 76 which was big and open. On a packed weekend, this site won't give you much privacy like the other campsites but it makes up for location - near the bathroom and water spigot, nature center, playground and beach. This and the others next to it would be a good site to reserve as a group of friends who are looking to go camping together. When we went, it was raining and so we went to the nature center where the staff there was very inviting and engaged our 4 year old to do an activity. Great spot for the kids to do indoor activities if it rains. Beach is a rock beach (no sand) and a great view of the water. I do wish it was sand but we still managed to have a good time in the water. Also the playground was very updated and my daughter enjoyed going there whenever she can. Everyone, including staff and campers, were all so nice there. It was our first time camping here and the staff explained everything to us and even offered us some free produce that they had. Firewood $6 (fairly dry), free kindle wood, ice $3.

There's a good amount of parking. They have several lifeguard chairs set up, but not sure if they actually have lifeguards? Really nice view of the scenery associated with Lake Champlain, right on the shore of it. I got more than I expected! Also, really like the access to the Island Rail Trail for more recreational fun!

The downtown Burlington is visible from the park. There's also tiny beach like sand area available. The adjacent park is also very popular among locals. The area bbq stations setup. Multiple playground areas with slides, swing, and marry go round. The park has two parking areas. One closer to main park, another one is further in, closer to the tree house. Both are paid parkings, but when we went on Sunday, we didn't have to pay. There are couple of volleyball fields next to the treehouse. We saw a bunch of people playing. The treehouse itself was underwhelming. Still it is a beautiful park to visit.

We visited the area with small kids (3-4 years old, that love hikes) and they walked the trails and said, and I quote, "It was fun". This is Vermont a wonderful state, colored in vivid green during the summer and the entrance to the parks cost only 4$. If you are a nature loving people looking for a long or short hike, come here.
