The rest of my time will be spent outside and exploring. Jasper Downtown Hostel was a pleasant experience. Everything went smoothly from check in to check out. Place was just renovated and the rooms, kitchen and lobby were very clean. I like that there are curtains, light and power outlets in every bunk for your privacy. Great location as it's close to the center. Also, I had a splinter on my finger and they were able to provide me with tweezers from their first aid kit! Thank goodness! Overall, I enjoyed my stay here, however, I can't say the same for my husband lol. But that's for his review :)

HI Jasper is much newer and modern than HI Lake Louise. While I liked the modern decor and more…read morespace to lounge and roam,  I do find myself missing the cozy atmosphere and comfortable furniture at HI Lake Louise.  We had our own bathroom in out private room and I appreciated the counter space near the sink, which was non-existent at HI Lake Louise. I wish there was an actual sauna room instead of a sauna box. The location was good, as it was only a 5 minute walk away from the downtown Jasper area. It made shopping for groceries and/or dining out at the restaurants very easy. It also has two (Level 2) EV charging ports in case anyone is interested.  It had a small cafe that offers coffee/snacks, which was very convenient when you are hungry but don't want to search for food. Mention about food, the kitchen was very spacious and have everything you'd probably need. We made some Chinese stir fry there with no problem at all. Overall, we were pretty happy with HI Jasper and would recommend it.

I would suggest avoiding if you're coming during the peak of summer and you don't tolerate heat well. Otherwise, the staff was super nice and helpful. The facilities are very clean. There's a great large kitchen and fridges if you want to cook which I recommend. Other amenities are pool table, washers and dryers, water dispenser. There's a nice cafe that offers fairly inexpensive breakfast/lunch food. Decent amount of parking and a short walk into jasper for groceries or restaurants.

The upgraded bathroom has no place to put a shaving kit or any personal item other than on the floor. There is no luggage stand, cabinet top, etc to put your suitcase. The air conditioning creates a polar like experience in the hallway. There is no coffee in the lobby in the morning. Small thing but details matter, especially in an old hotel with no elevator. Parking is "outback" in a dirt and gravel parking area. Really? What's it like in the rain? Room is clean, bed is reasonably comfortable and it's downtown. Premium priced without the benefit of a premium experience.

I stay 100 hotel nights per year, and I've never had an experience quite as awful as this one. The…read morehotel is old, dated, and it's obvious no one cares. But get this: the manager came to my room and threatened to kick me and my family out because I called down asking for an extension cord. First, there are no plugs by the bed. There is one extension that has a two-print plug, so I called down asking for a three-prong extension or "power strip". I was told by the front desk agent that in her three years, no one has needed a three-prong plug with a ground. I informed her it's standard for North America (MacBook AC adapters for example). I asked for her manager. The manager told me he didn't know what a "power strip" is, and said he'll bring me an extension cable and slammed the phone. He comes up several minutes later, throws the cord on the ground, and says in an aggressive threatening tone, "just so you know - this isn't standard. And next time you swear we'll kick you out." I informed him that I did not swear or even yell, which he can verify in his phone recordings. He insisted I swore but couldn't tell me what I said. Then he changed the topic and told me I was being rude and if I continue to do so I'll get kicked out. I asked how I was being rude (for defending myself) and he stormed off. This hotel is actually awful, and I did not feel safe here after that incident. If you want working facilities and staff that aren't terrible, don't stay here.

Vacation | Couple The worst experience I have ever had on…read morea holiday, checked in yesterday 10th July to a broken sink, reported straight away told no maintenance until tomorrow, got up the next morning to broken shower bursting all over, went to reception requested room change, told no by the inexperienced receptionist, asked for manager told no to that, told maintenance man start's at 9am, wrapped towels round shower head so we could shower, went out to come back to make shift shower repair and no sink repair, totally diabolic, never again this is the pits over $1000 for 3 nights, the TV doesn't even work!!! You have to some how connect it to your phone???? No idea how this works so we sat in silence reading at night.

The railings are worn and ragged and I suspect Wyatt ERP stayed here when looking for bad guys from down south. We got the last room available after several weeks of reservations, the room is tiny with the sink outside the bathroom, the room was at least 90 degrees F with the baseboard heating running and the small window unit off. The carpet is dirty and stained and the bed looked dirty and slept in. The manager assured me that they have been extremely busy and that of course the linens were clean and fresh regardless of what they looked like. Speaking of the manager, he was less than interested in our business to begin with and made sure we knew it. I'm still trying to figure out what being extremely busy has to do with clean linens?? Seems to me the opposite would apply. For the amount of money they charge you would think they could fix the place up and make it presentable. Maybe even hire a professional manager who understands what customer service is. But then again there's so many people looking for rooms and so few rooms in jasper why bother!!

My favourite hostel in Jasper National Park…read more It's located at the top of Maligne Canyon, one of the more popular tourist destinations, but in the early morning and in the evening it quiets right down. Accomodations are minimal, just a few bunkhouses with six beds to a room, but if you're staying there you're not after a five-star ambience anyway. The best description would be 'rustic'. Pack your food inside so the bears don't trash your car trying to get at it. Only room for about 24 guests, and the toilets are out behind the shed, but it's away from the drunks and rowdies in town and has a very peaceful atmosphere. It's cheap - about $25/night . The hostels are the best (and only) way to get a weekend in Jasper during high season for under $150/night unless you want to camp. You can catch the Maligne Lake shuttle bus to get to the Maligne hostel if you don't have a car. A good night's sleep, friendly company in the cookhouse/common room, and wonderful views of the mountains to greet you when you get up.

The kitchenette was equipped with everything we needed - bowls, mugs, wine glasses, cutting board, pots and pans, a grater and a good knife. We mostly used it for breakfast and making sandwiches, but it was really handy. The bed and bathroom were amazing. The soaker tub was perfect after sauna. The pool and spa are currently closed for renovations (well marked on their website) but we could use amenities in their nearby Jasper Collection hotels. This was our second time staying here and we enjoyed it again. Looking forward to being back once the renovations are complete!

This is especially difficult when travelling with children and a child with a disability. Compensation offered by the hotel was for two people to have breakfast one day out of the three nights we were staying; there were four of us staying in our room which meant half of our group was offered breakfast. It was really disappointing. Also, pool is NOT accessible from the inside of the building which should be noted somewhere. In order to get our son to the pool, we had to either leave his wheelchair at the stop of the stairs by the pool and hope no one took it/vandalized it OR take him outside in the cold which is not an option health wise and would be risky for others as well in cooler temperatures.

My folks stayed in a lower level queen room with a kitchenette, and that room was way nicer in terms of decor. It was also less than half the cost of the big goofy suite we stayed in, $140 a night versus $350. No dogs allowed in the suites, so add puppy-sitting to that cost, but they are allowed in other rooms. The king tower suite needs upgraded for the price, the decor is dated and just bad: off centre sconces and faded pictures, Chinese theme vases mixed with Italian rococo ones. Just a decorating disaster, feels like stuff was salvaged from the set of a 1970s porno and stuck in here randomly. Why not mountain themes in the decor, why the mixed cheap junk? The whole set up is awkward and unwelcoming. Lots of dead and unused space, silly little on/off gas fireplace, huge bar countertop with no purpose really other than a little bar sink now that the 1970s cocktail scene is a good 50+ years gone. There's only 2 wine glasses, 2 water glasses and 2 coffee cups. The suite feels incomplete, unfinished, and neglected. The best part about this suite is the huge bathroom: great big shower, 2 sinks, jacuzzi soaker tub. Truth be told, I got this suite for the tub, but I was a bit disappointed. The jacuzzi works fine but it's late 1980s style; the jets are not very powerful and the timer is weirdly at the bathroom door where you are guaranteed to accidentally hit it while trying to find the light switch. The tub it set up for 2 people to sit in different areas while resting their heads on tub cushions that are long gone, leaving behind awkward and pokey holsters. Kind of a dated let-down, like the rest of the suite. And why the crappy toiletries - "conditioning shampoo" - really? For $350 a night? All this aside, I liked the outdoor garden, and the facilities, rooms and property are kept very tidy. For a ski town, the place is immaculate. They start cleaning at 0900h, no lie, because of high turn-over. Check in is at 1600h, check out is 1100h. It's a very convenient location, with beautiful views all around, and we never had trouble finding a parking spot close to our room. The hotel was pretty much booked solid but it was never noisy and didn't feel crowded or busy, even over the long weekend. One must book significantly in advance, however, as tour groups stay here. I would definitely avoid higher level rooms in the summer, there is no air conditioning in any of the rooms, even the expensive suites. Fans are provided, but it's doubtful they would suffice on a hot day. We were on the 3rd floor on the second week in October, and the main living area was quite warm, never mind the tower where the bedroom is located. We had the fan on upstairs immediately, and it was only 23C outside. I think in the summer it would be unbearable, but for winter or spring it's perfect. Will try the pool and the onsite restaurant next time!

It is a convenient place to stay after the tours--which are a must Do if you visit the national park. Overall. The price seems expensive for what you get but not when compared to lodging at this national park generally.

Google this place before you come here so you know you're in the right place and don't end up driving towards the other side of Jasper to find your hotel! (That's obviously not what we did....) We ended up checking in at 1am. The place is super dark. There's not a single street light in the parking lot and with the humongous mountains on both sides, the experience was pretty eerie. There's only one staff member working at that time but he was kind enough to lend us a flashlight so that the rest of the members could disembark and carry our luggage in some light. Although the "hotel" portion is only on the 3rd floor at the Columbia Icefield centre since the first 2 floors are for the centre, our room was two floors. For a 4 people booking, we got a queen sized bed on the bottom and two twin beds upstairs. The place was super comfortable and cozy (perhaps it was the 2am settling down that made me fall asleep so quickly). Despite it having no cell service here, there is wifi at the inn. Just get it from the front desk. I had this fascination that I wanted to see the sun rise at the mountains cause heck, I'm waking up smack dab in the middle of literally the mountains so why not! The day was cloudy with light showers so the view wasn't the same as the beauty we saw the day before :( For breakfast, you'll probably be having it at the second floor cafe unless you're planning on driving out to Banff or Jasper to have breakfast! There's only two places so that's all the options you get. Of course, since this space is open to the people visiting the Columbia Icefield centre, don't expect kind prices. The panini I got in the morning was around $14 and it definitely was not worth it's money. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It wasn't a terrible experience but the dining options could be better!
