I rarely leave negative reviews, but today's experience at MSA Orthopedics in Albany was one of the worst medical experiences I've ever had. The front desk staff was wonderful, but everything after that went downhill. I brought my one year old son in with a buckle fracture after being referred by our pediatrician. Dr. McGee never introduced himself, never physically examined my son's injured arm, never showed me the X-rays, and offered very little explanation before leaving the room. His only comment was that it was "just a little baby break" and that I could ask questions if I had any. This is my first child and his first broken bone. I didn't know what questions to ask. I expected the physician to educate me, not leave me guessing. Later, while he was putting the cast on my son, I realized he still had never introduced himself. I actually had to ask him his name while he was applying the cast. After the cast was on, my son's fingers were completely covered. I have enough medical knowledge to understand the importance of monitoring circulation and swelling in a cast, especially for a one year old who cannot tell you if something is wrong. Yet I was given almost no instructions on cast care, warning signs, or what to watch for. I even had to ask how long he would be wearing it. To make matters worse, after we checked out, I was chased down in the lobby and pulled into the finance office to discuss a 7-year-old bill while my injured one year old cried in the hallway. I explained that I had already had an incredibly difficult day, but I was informed that because I had been of legal age at the time of the visit, I was personally responsible for the remaining balance, even though I would have still been in high school. I left feeling completely dismissed and unsupported. We have already scheduled a second opinion with another orthopedic provider tomorrow because I no longer feel confident in the care my son received. Compassion, communication, and professionalism cost nothing. Unfortunately, we experienced very little of any of them today. read more

Points to take away: 1. Go to a different clinic or get a second opinion. 2. Any orthotics, boots or durable medical equipment is not refundable even if you were given the wrong item. 3. This clinic is not responsive to customer problems or issues. 4. Before you purchase anything from them open your phone and check the price on Amazon. Boot costs less than $100.00. Save yourself $400.00 give or take. 5. The front office staff and physical therapy staff is very nice an great to work with. Go to a different provider or get a second opinion. Made an appointment at the Albany office with Dr. McGee on May 1st . I was told I had a fallen arch on only one foot and I needed a cast boot to isolate and physical therapy. That he could give me an orthotic but we will try this cast boot and physical therapy, and then we can discuss surgery if necessary. Right after meeting with the doctor I was ushered to the physical therapy area. I was fitted for a cast boot and charged $336 after my insurance contribution $164. I told the girl that it was extremely painful and did not seem right. She said you need to give it a few days. I no longer got home (30 min) and was in severe pain twice as much as when I arrived at the clinic. I called the office the next morning (Thursday) at 10am. They said the only person that can make a decision of "what to do next" is the doctor. I was directed to leave a message with his nurse and transferred to voicemail. I called again at 4:45pm and the receptionist said you will get a response today. Nevertheless, the call back was not received. I drove to the clinic the next morning (Friday) and was sent to the physical therapy area. They said that they needed the doctor to direct them as to what to do and he was not in on Fridays. Just in conversation with a few of the very kind physical therapy staff, I figured out on my own that this cast boot is probably the worst thing that I could have been given. I made an appointment at another local orthopedist at a different clinic. He gave me an orthotic for my foot ($80) and some exercises and I am pain free. Sorry for the book on this review. There are so many unfortunate experiences here that I wanted to share to prevent anyone else from undue treatment, frustration and cost. I still have not heard from the doctor or his nurse and its been 18 days since the message was left. read more

Care was rushed and of no importance. Office experience was ok, but poor physician advice with no detail. Just refer to another doctor.

My first visit was with Dr. Davis and after that I was only allowed to see the PA. She was good at first but my last encounter with her and the staff was beyond horrible. She treated me like I was a drug addict even though I was not asking for any pain meds but instead was asking for accommodations for school. She refused to assist me and said it was illegal for her to write me any note. She dismissed my concerns and watered my diagnosis down to just an ankle sprain. If I just had an ankle sprain why did I have to pay $100 for a knee brace? They charged me $100 and my insurance $100 for this knee brace. Her staff asked me interrogating questions about my follow up appointment. Again, it's not like I was asking for any medication but a note for school to get assistance to and from my classes (a service my tuition dollars pay for). I am still experiencing a lot of pain but will not be returning to this office ever again. read more

Dr. Prince is a hack! He attached my ACL that he was replacing to the wrong part of my knee- instead of healing, I was cutting the new ACL in half! read more

I sent my wife in after weeks of pain in the back, and a pain in her neck that has needed attention for a lot longer, but when she got there they forced her to pick which issue she was there for even though she said she needed both attended to. No mention was made of the fact that she would have to return for a second visit (and of course another fee) to look at the other issue UNTIL the doctor basically blew her off for the second issue and walked out disinterested. To top it off the first issue wasn't addressed well either. I would never walk in the doors of this place if I was looking for help because it will only cost money, and I'll still need help. read more

Had an appointment today. Dr. Barnard treated me very rudely. He was arrogant and would not listen to me. He kept interrupting me when I was trying to explain things to him. He was flippant and ignorant about me having cancer. The second time I had to ask him to let me finish talking I told him I was going to leave if he didnt let me finish. He threw his hands up and walked out of the office. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Hi I been going to msa for years and they done both my wrist surgery and left elbow surgery...as I had moved away and had my left hip and right knee replaced by someone else cause at the time they did not have a surgeon who could do it... I called msa when I found out that my left hip needed to be replaced and was excited to find out they now had a surgeon that could do it. Tho nervous as I was I recommend Dr.davis and msa any day of the week as well as their physical therapy department as they treated me like a person...wich is a big deal not like a pay check. Tho everyone's recov1 is divert I'm only 7 weeks out from a total right hip relacement and can now today I am almost pain free thank you Dr.davis and staff to the highest read more

Dr Barnard did a great job on my surgery. But I have no insurance. I paid cash for my first visit and I paid cash for my mri. I haven't yet been able to go to work due to my injuries from wreck. But fully plan on paying for my surgery as well. But today I was told that they wouldn't treat me for my separate injury because I don't have insurance is crazy. Dr Barnard talked to me and my mother and claimed to be a christian and all that. But in reality he is just another greed led doctor that don't giv a da%m about you unless you got insurance. I paid all I had and if he would further treat me so I could get well with my other issues I could go back to work and pay any other bills. So to you doctor Barnard, don't be portraying yourself as a caring compassionate christian to your clients when you really aren't. Yes I was told that I would not be treated for my lower back issues after today because I don't have insurance. What if I had the money in my pocket to pay for it today?? You didn't even ask me that. You just judged that I didn't. I'm thankful for what you have done for me and once I get back to work I will pay my bill. But my opinion about you telling people you're a Christian and then playing like you're some kind of a better person and gets to choose who has to suffer and who you treat because of money or lack there of makes you a liar and a hypocrite. read more

MSA has very good doctors but not all of them are the best! Be careful who they send you too because there is one who will not give you a refill on perscriptions, set you up for a MRI and the following visits are always a PA. Do your homework! The prescription refill is not for a controlled substance, but a pill that you will need and should not have to come for another appointment to get a refill in six months or less!
