The UP Music Circle, a university-based organization, hosts its semi-annual auditions here at MRS. It's perfect for the screening process because it's essentially a house with lots of areas for different stations. The living room serves as the reception and venue for vocalist applicants, the driveway/small garage is where we sometimes set up chairs to interview those who want to go into production, and then inside is the band room.
It's small, but it's got a full drum set and amplifiers. Shoes are not allowed inside, and while the owner is pretty easy to talk to, he does require you to respect. After all, the place looks pretty much like a home, so I wouldn't be surprised if he actually does live there.
Anyway, since we are his "suki" already, booking is pretty easy. The place is known mostly to UP underground bands and has been a staple since it opened many years ago. In fact, it's one of the first rehearsal studios to open in the Maginhawa area.
While the equipment do show signs of wear, they're still okay to use. Best of all, the place has a cheaper rate than most studios. read more
