If I could rate this place lower...I WOULD...and by several levels. Initially, I had taken our 1994 Toyota 4Runner to them with a very, VERY slight transmission fluid leak and intermittent slippage when in DRIVE. In less than an hour after leaving the vehicle with them for their diagnosis, they called to say that the fluid level was low and the fluid pan gasket needed replacing, as did the fluid filter/screen. So, over the phone, I approved the repair work to be done. The next day, not only was the leak back, but it was 20-30 times worse -- not mere DROPS, as it was when taken in for the assessment/repair. The fluid is POURING onto our garage floor. So, I returned the car, and they replaced the "replaced gasket" with a new gasket, and I took the car home. Yep, you guessed it! A couple of days later, the leak is back and worse, now, than it was after the initial repair. As well, their front desk associate -- Cameron, who is the son of the owner -- gave me grief when I expressed my disappointment in their, would let me talk by talking over me. Then I encouraged him to let me speak, if I was to avoid suing them. He then unleashed a tirade of screams, using that narcissistic challenge of, "Do you know who you're talking to?!!! And then hung up on me. I immediately called back, and the owner had been brought to the phone and tried to explain...EXCUSE their shoddy work. First, he thought I was completely ignorant of car repair, not knowing that I'd grown up on a farm, helping my dad repair and retool LOTS of major machinery components, INCLUDING TRANSMISSIONS, manual mind you. Ultimately, I had to FORCE them to remove some of the fluid, they had refilled the fluid level way, WAY, WAYYYYYY beyond the FULL notch on the fluid check dipstick. Since then, the leak essentially has disappeared; however, here's the remaining issue, which I didn't mention, given the fundamental failure to resolve the leak. Not only did leak issue worsen on order of magnitude, but so did the transmission slippage -- now not just in DRIVE, but also in SECOND gear, failing to "pull" from a dead standstill, but will kick in after starting the car in LOW, then shifting upward and settling in DRIVE. Needless to say, HELL will receive a ton of fur coat shipments before I'd EVER take my care back to these guys. And, now, YOU stand forewarned. I'd been referred to them by SIGNATURE Auto Repair, who's just next door, literally, as THEY don't do transmission work. Ironically, neither does this MR. TRANSMISSION. My engine light came on on Saturday and since nothing was open I had to carpool to work Monday before calling this place. Over the phone before even seeing my car the owner told me I'd need a new transmission. This seemed like a red flag but most of the reviews were good so I decided to go with it so I could get things fixed quickly. I brought my car in Monday afternoon and called him back the next day. He confirmed it would need a transmission and it would be $3900. I asked him about financing and he told me that they use Synchrony and emphasized their 12-mo interest free promotion. I asked each step of the way before giving the go ahead on anything whether there where any other fees and each time he told me I'd only pay the $3900. When I finally went to pick up my car on Friday he told me there was a $230 processing fee for the financing that I'd have to pay before I could take my car home. I reminded him that he didn't tell me about this fee at all this week and he told me he forgot! I called Synchrony the next Monday. They told me that they charge vendors a 5.7% fee for using their services to get their money upfront but the vendors are not supposed to pass that fee along to the customer. So I went back to the shop and had them tell him that but he was completely unapologetic. Whether he was being dishonest or notIf he had told me that I'd be charged 6% to finance I could have made a more informed decision about how to pay for the service that would have saved me hundreds of dollars. Update: In response to this review an account for Amanda P. claiming to be the owner commented and left the businesses number. When I called and asked for Amanda, Scott Hester, who I assume is the actual owner because he's the only person I've interacted with, said there is no Amanda and hung up immediately. Cameron from Mr transmission called me and indicated I should pick up my car. I indicated that my car got into their shop with and intact exhaust and was leaving with a broken exhaust. They agreed to get it repaired two weeks ago but had not untill Mr Scott called. Cameron called me today and called me cheap, that my car was a piece of s___ . I indicated it was not the money for repairing the exhaust but not being told the truth. I had called my mechanic who replaced the engine and he indicated that the exhaust was fine and I also had seen the condition of the exhaust. Cameron also added storage Charges for a car that was still under repair. I would not recommend this plane to my worst enemy. read more

Took my mustang to Mr. transmission due to a stiff clutch. Explained to him the problem was with the pedal. His expert opinion was that it needed a new pressure plate. And I agreed to replacing it along with a new clutch disc since they'll be dropping the transmission. So I paid a fair price trusting they knew what the issue was. Got my car back and days later the clutch pedal started to get so stiff again. Took it back, he blamed the aftermarket clutch. He adjusted the cable and sent me on my way. A day later the Pedal went back to stiff, decided to take it to Aamco, they diagnosed the problem being the release bearing and sleeve, and one bell housing bolt. Even pointed out that Mr. Transmission dint put the dust cover back on. Aamco went ahead and replaced it and after driving it for over a month I have not experienced anymore problems. Reason for one start rating is that I paid a fair price for their work for them only to do it in a rush and misdiagnose it. Now I'm short $800+. For their misjudgment. read more

I had taken my car to the dealership (that I thought was reputable) because my car was not working properly. I was told that I would need a whole new transmission and was quoted over $2,000 plus labor. On the recommendation of a trusted mechanic, who admitted he knew nothing about transmissions, I came here. After explaining the blow-by-blow of the situation my sweet car was in I was told that I would be called. Five hours later I got a call. He says, "I know you didn't authorize us to do anything on your car... but here's the deal: you needed a $5 part, so I went ahead and put it in there. You're car is now in prefect working order." I paid $5 for the part and for one hour of labor -- totaling $85. That is twenty-five times LESS expensive than I was originally quoted! (The owner?) Scott Hester is a very nice, very understanding gentleman who even walked me out to my car and opened the door for me. I cannot rave enough. And I'm sure that even if they work they do SEEMS expensive... a dealership would have charged at least ten times that amount. These guys are honest, nice, and know what they are doing. I highly recommend that, should the unfortunate event arise and you need some help, you go see them. At least give them a call. read more

Bunch of honest folks here! I went in with a newly purchased 95 wagon and a concern about my transmission temps. I gave every indication that I was expecting a rebuild, and asked about the price. Scott gave me a quote for the work, and then said he'd drive the car around, get it hot, and then troubleshoot it. He even gave me a ride home. Called a few hours later, and Scott said that the transmission was fine, but that there is a trans line too close to the header. I had them do a fluid & filter change, and they sent me down the road. (They even replaced two missing exhaust bolts for me - free) I'll be moving the trans line on my own... This place could have TOTALLY hosed me, because I even told Scott I thought the trans was shot. I was expecting to pay $1500-$2k, and I got out of there for $130. I'll tell everyone I know to take their cars here for trans work. They're good people. read more

I went to a dealership first for a car repair. After a fair amount of money, they told me it was my transmission that would need to be replaced. They said, to my face, that I would be better off buying a new car. I went to Mr. Transmission North Decatur and they said they didn't think it was my transmission. They went above and beyond working with both me and on my car, finally identifying the problem as related to steering and fixing it for me. They didn't charge me nearly enough. My car now runs great, hopefully for another 100k miles. Next time I will definitely avoid the dealership and head straight to Mr. Transmission North Decatur and Scott if I even think it might be a transmission problem. I was visiting my mother-in-law and her 2001 Avalon was making a noise and the check engine light was on. Scott, the manager, could not have been nicer. Without an appointment he was able to evaluate the car in about 30-40 minutes after we arrived. I was reassured by him that the noise I was hearing wasn't serious and may have resulted from the way a previous repair was done. He also diagnosed the check engine light and estimated a fair price to replace an O2 sensor. We didn't have time to wait for the part, and we will get the noise fixed by the FL dealer who should have done a better job (wondering if that dealer took advantage of Mom, but...). I called him several days in a row and after telling me he would do the work, he abruptly changed his mind and told me that he was busy and that I should find another transmission place. A couple of days ago I thought I was having problems with my transmission. Called yesterday and they told me to bring it in first thing in the morning for a free diagnostic - first come, first serve. Got there and the guys were nice, tested my car, could not find any transmission issues and all of that was no charge! In the past I have found that mechanics would just find something in order to charge me any amount - small or large. I am very grateful. Every transmission place is different so reviews are important. This location and the owner/manager Scott is a trustworthy, honest person. He identified my problem, told me how it could repaired, the cost and when it would be ready. All very professional. Any time your car stops running and it is the transmission you know it could be thousands and usually on an old car out of warranty. And you also know you have no way of knowing if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced/rebuilt. The difference could cost you thousands. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Okay so I took my 05 Honda CRV to a different transmission shop a week ago and had a bad experience. My check engine light came on a while ago and I know typically that just calls for a diagnostic test that will throw a code. The first place I took my car disgnosed it with a list of all these things and didn't give me any codes. They quoted me $780 as a base cost to take my transmission out completely and start unbuilding it, tacking on cost for parts and additional labor. He was trying to sell me the idea that a rebuilt transmission is going make this car last me longer and that I needed all these new parts. I immediately asked for my keys back and drove away to figure something else out. I looked up on Yelp to find Mr. Transmission with really good reviews. I decided it was worth a shot and had my boyfriend take it in to have it looked at. They ran the diagnostic test and came back with only one code. Pressure sensor solenoid. They quoted me under $350 which would cover the part and labor. That's more like it! This made so much of my stress release off my shoulders. It was quick and easy with no BS. My boyfriend set up an appointment for me to drop it off today to get it fixed. I brought my CRV early in the morning to be serviced, drop off was easy. The manager Scott was very friendly. I left and a couple hours later Scott called with good news! Turns out a rodent got under my hood and chewed some wires to the pressure sensor solenoid. So Scott and his team just replaced the wires and it ended up costing me about $100 less! My day just got even better! I loved that he was honest and didn't try to pull anything over me. The whole process was easy and quick. He also gave me a heads up about an oil leak and said he'd talk to the guys next door (another auto shop) about getting it fixed for me. He didn't pressure me but just suggested getting it done soon, which I love! Mr. Transmission ended up being my hero. I'm definitely going to be a returning customer if I need anything. read more

I am so glad I found Mr Transmission in Decatur, thanks to an Internet search and the positive Yelp reviews. Scott Hester, the manager, immediately understood the issue I was having with my Chevy Tahoe and had it fixed within an hour of my arriving. I will definitely be a regular customer in the future and will trust any recommendations Mr. Hester or the others at Mr Transmission make about my vehicle. I will note that I came to Mr Transmission on the same day I had a very disappointing interaction with the Chevy dealership service department---the same dealership where I purchased my Tahoe. They didn't understand the problem with the vehicle and wanted me to leave it for a week (!!!) so they could find time to drive it and diagnose the problem. I will not be returning to this dealership, of course, either for service or to buy any other cars. This is Deb and Paul Macchi. Our son Tim is attending Emory University. He took his car, a Mitsubishi Kizashi to Georgia with him (from Florida). It is pretty much impossible to get parts for this car, so when he started having issues with his clutch, he was in a bit of a panic and so were we. Hoping against hope that it might be something simple that would not require a part, he went to Mr. Transmission. Scott took the car for a ride, suggested it might be a brake fluid issue and added it. That did take care of the problem for the most part....and he didn't charge him!!!! Who does that these days???? I had a great experience. I was so worried that my transmission was shot. After cleaning out the back of my truck, expecting a lengthy repair time, I brought it in for service. The man at the front had listened to my concerns on the phone and listened again at the front desk. He said he had a feeling what was going on. My daughter and I watched in amazement as he simply recreated the problem in the parking lot and diagnosed a non-transmission problem. All I needed was a new bolt in the front brake caliper! Noticed that my 2000 Dodge Caravan was leaking either transmission fluid or coolant (just a very small amount). Took it into Mr. Transmission and spoke with Mike, the owner. He was very polite and helpful. He took my car out for a drive and then put it up on the lift, but couldn't find any leak or problem. The inspection was free and I was in and out in about 30 minutes. Although I will still need to keep an eye on the leaking situation, at least I can know that it wasn't a serious problem at this point. I really appreciated the service. Car check engine light popped on and took it into AAA to get it checked out. I was told it was related to the transmission and should take it to a dealership or specialist. I ended up dropping it off at Mr. Transmission. My experience was about as good as it could be when it comes to repairs of this size. I felt Scott (the owner) gave it to me straight, charged me a fair price, and repaired my vehicle very quickly. (Had to order a part and was still able to get me repaired in two days.. on Christmas eve even). There was no up-sale whatsoever and I was treated very fairly in every way. Had trouble switching gears coming home from work on Friday night. On Saturday morning called Mr. Transmission in Decatur to make sure they could look at my car that morning, and ended up talking to Scott the Manager. He said they were open that morning. Got to within a mile of the service center and couldn't get my car out of 1st gear, once I stopped, and couldn't put it in neutral, the engine stopped. Then I couldn't get the car in neutral, and therefore couldn't get it restarted. I called Scott at Mr. Transmission, and said that I was close, but couldn't make it to his shop, and asked for a suggestion. He said he would find me and take a look at my car. He was there in 5 to 10 minutes and got me back on the road and on it's way to his shop. I ended up getting my slave cylinder replaced and got my car back on Tuesday, because they had to order the part. The repair was reasonably priced, they were nice when I talked to them, and I appreciate the extra effort that Scott made to help me out. read more

The transmission went out in my 2010 Chrysler Town & Country a few weeks ago and I had limited time to make a decision as to where to have the transmission repaired. After taking my car to another large transmission repair shop, I called Scott and he was very helpful in explaining what other options I had. I dropped the car off late one afternoon and the problem was diagnosed the next morning. In 3 days the transmission was repaired and has been running as good as new. It was not an inexpensive repair but the parts and labor are warranted for 18 months or 18,000 miles. I found Scott and his team to be very knowledgeable and courteous with their service. We took a car there, and after receiving a quote and an ETA, they preceded to, three separate times, over promise and under deliver. Every day, when it was supposed to be done, they had not only neglected to tell us that it is not actually ready, but they also added to the list of things that were wrong with the car. The time, and cost, doubled from the time we brought it in until the time we got it back. Not only that, but after arguing for a while about how untruthful they had been with us and how unhappy we were (and desperate to have the car back), the manager or whoever he was, Alan (who wears a really lame spiked bracelet that goth kids at my middle school use to wear) called one of us an asshole, right to his face. A costumer! There was never a raised voice from our party, but they proceded to be rude and shifty the whole time. They even ignored our phone calls! We had to call from another number just to talk to them. They ripped us off hardcore, and I would go out of my way to make sure no one goes here to support these guys. read more

I located this business on Yelp. After reading their good reviews I decided that I'd take my Honda there to have them repair/replace my clutch. I pretty much limped into their parking lot. Not only was my manual transmission shifting rough but it was also making a weird noise and it smelled like a dirty ash tray inside my car. I knew something was really not right. Scott met me in the parking lot, jumped in my car, pushed the clutch in, and new immediately that it was the clutch/flywheel/throw out bearing. He quoted me a price and told me he could have it ready the next day. As promised he called me the next day and told me that the burning smell was from certain plastic parts in the clutch parts melting and that my limping into the parking lot was lucky. He said I was on the verge of basically locking everything up and not being able to drive the thing. He said everything was fixed and to come pick it up. He got me in quickly, fixed it quickly, and got me out quickly. Scott was easy to work with and super professional in every way. DONT DO IT!!!! Took my car here and he was suppose to have rebuilt my transmission. Gave Scott (the owner) $2100 and had to take my car back the very next day. He didnt change the selonoids and probably nothing else. I just happen to see one of the mechanics from the shop one day in the store and he told me had he tried to get my attention to tell me not to leave my car there. He said Scott tries to salvage parts from old cars and cut corners everyway that he cans. He goes and get the parts from a storage box in the back. (which you can see behind the gate). Ive taken my car back about 5 times within this 1yr warranty and my car is still acting up. The last time I took it he said that it was some type of switch on the outside of the transmission and it wasnt covered in my warranty. $200 more. Everywhere I take my car now they tell me I got Got. I'm tired of going back now. I give up!! They get one star for good customer service. (I'd be nice to someone who's about to give me $2100 too) I say shop around and definately read reviews on where ever you decide to take your car. just dont take it here. If you want to throw away $2000-$3000 i'll fix. read more
