Our family had a very positive experience with Mr. Piper's Jeeps during our visit to St. John's in March 2015. Given the horror stories of deceptive practices by some car rental companies in Cruz Bay, it was definitely worthwhile to do some research before reserving a car. Mr. Piper's Jeeps is a relatively new company that opened in late 2014 after the owner purchased the business from Paris Rental Cars (which no longer exists). As a result, the owner is eager to build a good reputation! The office is located about a block away from the roundabout up the hill from the Cruz Bay ferry terminal. If you drive toward the Starfish Marketplace from the roundabout, and make a right on the first one-way street, it's located just before the St. John Inn. I spoke by phone with Chrystal, who had a 1-day rental available (2015 Ford Escape) for the last day of our stay. Since it was peak season, I was grateful any car was available. I was delighted to see the car was brand new with only 1,000 miles on the odometer. Chrystal took my credit card information and briefly inspected the vehicle before we were on our way to Coral Bay. Mr. Piper's Jeeps provided outstanding service the next morning when we had to catch a 9am ferry back to St. Thomas. Chrystal agreed to have somebody meet us at the ferry terminal when I called from the gas station. After refueling the car at 8:45am, we ran into local traffic and reached the ferry dock area by 8:50am. Unfortunately, it started to rain so we scrambled to park in a nearby lot (Smith's Limos) and paid $5. At 8:55am, after moving our luggage to the dock, I met Mr. Piper at the courtyard one block up away from the dock. He saw the look of panic in my face about missing the ferry to St. Thomas, and calmly asked where the keys to the Ford Escape were. When I explained that it was with the Smith Limo parking lot attendant and that I had already paid $5 to park there, he said that I should run to the ferry and that he and Chrystal would take care of the paperwork and payment for the 1-day rental. Our family cannot thank him enough for saving us valuable time and avoiding a 1-hour wait for the next ferry. We boarded with 3 minutes to spare and made it to the airport on time. I would strongly recommend Mr. Piper's Jeeps. The fleet of 2015 cars is new and Chrystal was professional and responsive by phone. Be sure to confirm when and where you plan to return the rental car or jeep! We plan to reserve a car again with Mr. Piper's Jeeps on our next trip to St. Johns. read more

We had a great experience renting our Jeep from Mr. Pipers during our stay on St. John in May 2021. Chrystal was terrific when we booked our jeep. When we arrived, the team was courteous and welcoming. While the contract review was fast paced, the jeep was clean and we didn't have any issues with the performance of the Jeep. We were able to take advantage of parking in their lot for when we went went to Cruz Bay - we did that twice. Both times, the attending staff members were friendly and accommodating. I rented a beep from Mr. Pipe's on August 7, 2021 I called before we got on the people Ferry to give them a heads up when we were arriving. The lady was loud a rude and downright nasty and said she wasn't going to have our Jeep because Saturdays were there busy day. They took my credit card and were happy to rent the Jeep the day before for a 1 day rental. When I called today the actual Manager said they don't do 1 day rentals and scolded me with fierce anger! Mr Piper Jeep offered us a clean vehicle for our family 6, when they could've made us take 2 vehicles. The policies aren't restrictive and we didn't have mechanical problems with the vehicle. They met us at the ferry, rather than have us take the vehicle back to their yard. read more

One of the most unorganized company I have ever dealt with in my 50 year career. They were very pushy about their payments (should have given me some clue then) and then they screwed up on the insurance. I spoke to a Mary and she stated we were all set with the insurance and then after the week of being there charged me for insurance and said that I did not provide the insurance information in a timely manner and she could not reverse the charge. Now, mind you, we spoke on the phone and I spoke to them in person on the day of arrival. Clearly they are scam artists and very proud of it. So my suggestion - do NOT rent from here. When you own a business, how you handle and appreciate your customers is everything. Upon returning the Jeeps in perfect condition as we received them, the man picking them up and accused us of taking the Jeeps to another island, I guess so they could get more money out of us (besides the $1,100 we already paid to rent them). He even commented about how we didn't park the car correctly??? I'm very unsatisfied with the way we were treated. I would not do business with them again. read more

Disappointed to hear the negative comments from the past, but we have nothing but positive things to say about this rental company. We made a last minute (2-3 days prior to arrival) reservation with the staff and was surprised that a Jeep was even available during Carnival week. The phone reservation was quick and courteous, and when we arrived at the ferry, two gentlemen were there to pick us up at the promised time. All prior damages to the rental was noted and communicated with us, and we were off on our way. Per return, we couldn't find exactly where to return the rental so instead the staff on location helped us anyway to finish up processing the rental; they even complimentary drove us to the ferry with our luggage. Customer service was impeccable and will definitely rent from their company again when we return to USVI! read more

We've been going to St John for many years, discovered Mr Pipers 3 years ago and have been using them ever since. Cars are clean and in good shape, they drop off and pick up the car at our rental in Grande Bay and the their prices are fair. And they give free tshirts and koozies with the rental. read more

Last year we were satisfied with Mr Piper's overall, however, we did encounter one minor issue. We decided to use Mr Piper's again. I can tell you that without a doubt this keep rental is absolutely fantastic. The new pick/up drop/off procedure was excellent. We arrived to the island late morning, and they were able to accommodate an early pickup. Said they are open at 8AM, but when the woman picked up at 8:25AM she said she wasn't in the office yet and that I should call back in 20min. When I called back she said she was doing a pick-up at the ferry (I thought: what is this a one man operation?). I gave her my number to call me back. An hour and fifteen minutes later I still hadn't heard from her so I called again...it went to voicemail so I left a message. An hour later, no call back. We just reserved a Jeep with Cool Breeze Jeep Rentals instead, took 5 min. Don't waist your time with Mr Piper...probably at home getting stoned. read more

We rented with Mr Pipers and they were very thorough and the price was what they said it would be at the end of the contract. Then we hired them as a taxi and our driver Dante was excellent!!! He was there when he said he would be there every time and he was a great driver. Some taxis in St John are a bit crazy but Dante was fantastic. read more

DON"T GO TO THIS PLACE!! We documented damages on a loose rear bumper on our walk through and took immaculate care of the jeep. When we went to turn it in, the owner said that the damages weren't recorded on their paperwork and he was going to charge us over $400. We had an excellent experience with Mr Pipers Jeeps. Making a reservation was pretty easy, although it did take a couple of phone calls (leaving messages) - mostly because we both were very busy. They picked us up at the ferry dock, drove us to their office where our car was waiting. Car was in good shape & very clean. At the end of our stay, they met us at the ferry dock again to pick up our car - check out was also very easy. This is my second time renting on St. John. The first time I rented from Cool Breeze and I thought they were fair and very reasonable. This time I decided to try Mr. Pipers Jeep Rental because they were near my Hotel, The St. John Inn. I called and spoke to someone and they quoted me a price told me I would be charged for 3 days if I picked up the car at 3:00pm on Friday and had it returned by about 10:30 pm on Monday. My credit card was charged to hold the car and about 2 weeks later I got an email stating that I needed to return the car at 10:30 am not 10:30pm and I would need to still pay for 3 days. If I wanted to return the car after 10:30am, I would need to pay for an extra day. According to Chrystal, I was quoted the wrong price(Crystal did not quote me. Someone else did) and The car pickup times are 3:00pm and drop off times are 10:30am. If I wanted to use another car agency my deposit would be forfeited. I did look for another agency and none were available 3 days from my rental date. Here are my problems with the management of this company and this is why I'D ENCOURAGE YOU NOT TO RENT HERE and vote with your hard earned dollars elsewhere: 1. The company management (Not Chrystal) does not stand behind rates quoted over the phone even when they did acknowledge the mis-quoted rate and that I was given late notice of the correction. 2. They do not rent cars on a 24 hr. rental. So a one day rental starts at 10:30 am and ends at 3:00pm. So by this calculus, a 1 day rental is 4 hours and 30 minutes. 3. So if your take #1 and #2 into account above, how much extra problems could you be getting by choosing this company. I tried to reason with management before writing this review but they would not budge. I'm not an unreasonable person but MR PIPERS JEEP RENTAL IS UNREASONABLE in my opinion. Perhaps they will rethink their position? I'll give you an update after my trip. read more

Avoid this company like the plague. Totally rude and a rip off. Booked a Jeep and was quoted a rate; however, the rate increased when Mr. Pipers learned I was staying at Caneel Bay Resort. You can't pick up the Jeep until 3:00 p.m., but are charged for the entire day. I arrived at 3:00 p.m. to pick up the Jeep, but no one was at the office. I waited until 3:30 p.m., but still no one there. I called and told the woman to contact me when they arrived, but did not receive a message from the front desk until after 8:00 p.m. The Jeep was delivered the next day, but Mr. Pipers refused to refund a day's rental rate because of its failure to deliver the Jeep. Our friends rented a Jeep from them and had a similar experience -- rude treatment all around. Mr. Pipers' philosophy is that "the customer is always to blame". Terrible company...stay away. I was charged $50 for "damage" that amounted to a couple tiny superficial "scratches" that could be wiped off with some spit. The girl was rude and resentful and her "supervisor" (using lots of "" in this one because there's so much crap!) never bothered to call me back to discuss this. They are con artists. You don't even get 24hrs for more than $100/day. Plus the tank wasn't even full so I ended up paying for more gas than I even used. There are lots of choices on the island. What a total fiasco! Six of us rented a villa and requested a vehicle for two weeks that would accommodate all of us. To begin with, they booked the wrong two weeks, then delivered a five passenger Jeep. After two days, we found a vehicle at another rental and were informed that despite their ineptitude, they would not issue a refund! We offered to pay for the two days we had it, they refused! Do not deal with this company!! We will dispute the charge but it made for a very sad start to a very expensive vacation! read more

The representative drove the jeep to our hotel and I offered to drive him back to their office as he was planning to walk. DO NOT USE Mr. Pipers Jeeps! My family visits St. John twice a year for the past 20 years. Never had such an awful experience with a jeep rental. Decided to use this rental agency for a quick weekend getaway. I wanted to give this newer business in town business and I was told on phone I would be greeted with the jeep in hand at ferry dock upon arrival. Jeep was not at ferry dock upon arrival. Instead, a van to transport you to the office to pick up jeep. Decided after 10 minutes sitting in van to walk to the office myself. This obviously disturbed the "greeter"-"car washer."(He is both a greeter and the car washer) Very rude. this was the first issue. Was then met at office by a lady that quickly showed me all the marks and dents on vehicle that she ALREADY marked on paper. They already have this prepared for you. That was the second issue. Lastly, upon returning vehicle to office myself since I never received the promised text the day before confirming the time of return at ferry dock, I was greeted by the same "greeter"- "car washer." He looked over the jeep FOUR TIMES. FOUR TIMES! He even looked underneath the car! He was OBVIOUSLY looking HARD to find something new on this scratched, dented vehicle. He finally pointed out a FADED scratch on the dented front bumper that must have been covered up with the shiny liquid they use to "shine" up bumpers and tires. The girl at check in didn't see it. I CERTAINLY did not do it. Told him so. He was obviously trying to get cash from me for this or he receives commission on collecting money for flaws that he can find on jeep from innocent families and couples who probably pay it just so they can move on. ( This is probably how they paid for that brand new van they use to transport customers to office) This SCAM did not work on me. I can only imagine the "extra" money they collect over the regular weekly rental amount for these bogus claims of damage on already badly damaged bumpers that they NEVER FIX. When I returned home I noticed they tried to charge my credit card $75.00 for this scratch. My credit card denied this charge since I already called my credit card company before I left. Up until we dropped off our keep I was ready to give this company a 4 or 5. The jeep was fine, they were there at the ferry to pick us up. No problems! But I read the review above and I'm 100% sure we dealt with the same kid with the piss poor attitude during our drop off. He gave us such a hard time about a little black mark on the jeep, which we buffed off right in front of him. On top of that he was PISSED that we never responded to their text message telling us to drop our car off at the ferry not at their office. Well, we never received a message and we apologized and explained we never got a call or text message, but the massive attitude continued. We then asked for a ride to the ferry and he refused, with SO much attitude. If he had refused us a ridewith a little more kindness or understanding over the miscommunication we would ha e understood. Another worker standing nearby took pity on us and offered to take us down to the ferry. Just because of how badly that kids attitude was, i can't give more than 2 stars. There are a ton of places to rent jeeps from, I'll be using a different company next time we go. read more

We rented from Mr. Piper's Jeeps in June 2016. They were courteous and arrived at the ferry location to pick us up. We rented a very nice-looking Ford Explorer, checked it over for dents and dings, and went on our way. But, we forgot to look at the tires. We noticed on the second day that the rear tires were almost completely bald. The front tires were not bald but did have significant wear. We only had one more day with the car and didn't want to bother returning it, so we drove slowly the rest of the time. The low tire pressure light came on the night before we returned it, but we figured it was because of the bald tires. When we turned it in, the employees told us that one of the front tires was flat, and that we must have driven over something very rough to cause the flat. We had not noticed driving over anything. They charged us $300, so enough for a new tire, to replace one of their bald/flat tires. I disagreed with them and disputed the charge with my credit card. Avoid this company. read more
