Very friendly folks…read more They brought the vehicle to Westin 2 hours prior to our pickup time, which was awesome to have early access for the things we wanted to do that day! And dropoff with a return ride back to Westin was very easy and quick. Keep in mind - the free parking they offer at their office after 6pm in Cruz Bay downtown is 2 spots next to their building under the overhang and 1-2 spots adjacent to their building slightly up from it, first come first served in the evening. There is no open lot persay. Saturday of our stay the spots were all taken, but Sunday evening there was a spot. Parking downtown is really, really tough. There does appear to be some parking next to the Virgin Island National Park HQ at the end of the town, and some paid parking downtown (somewhat spendy). Otherwise, parking is either free around the island or a max of $5 at trunk bay, hansons bay and Windmill for example. The taxis do go all over the island without much of a wait (when we went in mid November at least - shoulder season i think), and charge a government contracted rate. Westin to Cruz bay is $7/pp/way and is a 5 min ride; a ride to Coral Bay which is about the furthest ish that you can go will cost about $25/pp/way and is about 25 mins. If you are going to do beaches most of the days, and are 2+ persons, a rental at $90/day makes sense. Remember that they drive on the left side of the road here! There is a LOT of VERY steep roads so drive like a local and gun it up, and avoid the potholes on your side of the road. Gas to fill up was about $5.15/gallon, but everything on the island is within about a 20 max 30 minute drive, so gas only cost us about $20 for the 3 days and we drove all around the island. None of the big car rental services like Hertz, Avis etc operate on St. John's, just local vendors like Sunshine. I heard that Avis will let you drive on the car ferry over with one of their rentals from STT but did not try so cannot verify. I'd recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle either way. Most people drive jeeps, or another mini or full SUV type vehicle here. We had a Rav4 and it did just fine!

So easy! During the week that we had the vehicle we had a problem with a windshield wiper that was addressed within minutes. We could not have asked for better service. On the 12th, we checked out of where we were staying, drove to sunshine rental, completed a vehicle inspection and were driven to the dock/ferry. A very smooth and timely process. We highly recommend this company based upon our experience.

As soon as our flight arrived in St. Thomas, the receptionist was calling my wife and inquiring where we were. The receptionist was rude and bothered that we were picking up after hours. When we arrived to STJ car rental we were greeted by the same receptionist. We signed our paperwork and received our vehicle. The vehicle was clean and we had no complaints. Per the rental policy, the vehicle's gas tank needs to be filled upon return. We had an early flight out of St. Thomas and an even earlier ferry ride from St. John. Since the gas station didn't open until 7AM, we elected to fill the vehicle the night before. When we dropped the vehicle off at STJ car rental, the vehicle was full of gas... however, I noticed a $34 charge on my credit card from St. John Car Rentals a few days later. There is a $20 fee for an unfilled gas tank per the rental policy, as well as the cost to fill the tank... A gallon of gas on the island is upwards of $7. This tells me that St. John Car Rental charged me $34 for two gallons of gas. I could understand if a quarter of a tank was gone but $34 is a money grab. There are better rental options on the island.
