the service was great here, although there were a few things that could have really improved my experience at this establishment. i ordered a double caesar like two other members at our table, but it came in a short glass. i assumed "hey, maybe that's my mistake for not specifying a tall." but neither of our other party members specified for their drink order. okay, mistakes happen that's okay. our food comes out and my meal has regular fries after i asked for the garlic fries side substituted. i end up pointing this out and it gets corrected super quickly. i eat my fries and then i bite into my burger. it. is. burnt. i take a picture of it for my review and two of my other table members go "is your party burnt too?". i didn't say anything to the staff as the other members of our party were starting to eat and i didn't want to wait until after they were done to eat a remake item. i used to love coming here with my grandma as it was her favourite burger place. sad to say mr. mikes quality on this night was not great. read more

Mr. Mike's is one of those places you go to for drinks, dinner, and lots of yelling with family and friends. The place is loud ... I mean, incredibly loud. It's also a little on the dark side so you find yourself angling your menu for some light to read it. But, all this said, it's a popular place - reservations are recommended on the weekends. Fortunately, we went on a weeknight so we're seated right away. Service is friendly and efficient. She brought us our drinks and took our orders right away. I ordered the NY Strip, "Gaucho Style," which comes blackened with Parmesan-garlic fries, roasted veggies and chimichurri sauce. The steak was cooked to medium and was still tender and delicious. The "blackened" seasoning was perfect for the steak. The only drawback was a long, tough tendon running the length of the cut. Everything else on the plate was exceptional. The fries were crispy, hot and full of flavor. The roasted Brussels sprouts and broccoli had a nice char to them and likewise flavorful. I got to try my wife's baked salmon. It was moist and tasty. Unfortunately, the accompanying honey-lemon-dill sauce was a bit too sweet. Again, service was above board. We were checked on often, my iced tea glass was filled without the need to ask. Prices are slightly higher than expected but reflects current price increases all around. BUT, if you grab some drinks, order some apps and enjoy the big screen displays, it's easy to see why Mr. Mike's is never a boring place. read more

Stopped in at Mr. mikes for dinner and was very pleased with the experience. The service was great and we were seated quickly in a comfortable booth. The lighting was a bit low for two oldies to easily read the menu (my husband and i) lol. Food ordered, our drinks were kept topped. The nice the food arrived it was pleasantly plated and hot. I had a steak while hubby had an appetizer of shrimp. Hot and delicious. My steak was medium rare and the veggies (carrots and brussel sprouts) were cooked to perfection. No room for dessert. Stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday, and were treated cheerfully and competently by our server, whose name I gathered from the receipt might be Kyra? Long red hair, brilliant smile? She seemed to enjoy what she was doing, knew the menu, and interacted engagingly with the two of us, even though we're old enough to be her parents, and aren't Canadian. We appreciated her service and want to make sure her managers know that she's an asset to the team. Husband's steak was prepared as ordered, and although we found the lobster mac & the lobster-avocado grilled cheese to be a bit bland, they were offset by exceptionally fresh & flavorful tomato soup, arugula salad, chimichurri sauce, and garlic-parmesan fries. Came here for a Sunday dinner. We made reservations which was nice because the place was busy and we were seated right away. Server was friendly and efficient. We were able to order our toddlers meal right away and it came out very quickly. The steaks were ordered medium well but came out more on the medium side (which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). Still good, just not how we prefer to eat them. The place was packed on a weekend early evening which says alot. Our waiter was dressed like a cowboy who lacked social skills. Cone payment time he tried to make it up with a shallow excuse why he was more less annoyed and quiet with his service. His man bun was cute but that's about all cause in the service industry the servers makes even a bad place a good experience. This was my first visit to a Mr. Mike's since I was a child so my expectation was that of what I used to experience (salad bar, etc). I wasn't sure how gluten-free friendly it would be or if it would appeal to my adult tastes. I had the best steak I've had in a long time - perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly how I ordered it with a beautiful crust on the outside and medium rare in the middle. The potato was dressed with just enough topping to ensure there was some in every bite but not so much that it drowned the potato. Vegetables were tender with a bit of crunch. My husband had the chicken salad (made without the tortilla chips so I could eat some) and the vegetables were all fresh and crisp, dressed with just enough dressing and the chicken was tender. Got in to Prince George late and when we checked in and asked where we could eat they suggested Mr. Mike's Steakhouse. I am SO happy we went there. First off it was 10:49 and so my hubby went in to see if they could still take orders, thinking we would just order and take it back to the hotel, but the hostess said to come on in! I was a little leary because let's face it at the end of your shift you just want to go home. I expected the cooks to be upset and the staff to be unhappy but let me tell you I WAS WRONG WRONG WRONG. EVERY SINGLE PERSON WAS AWESOME!!!! Not only did they make amazing food from the steak, to veggies, to potatoes and more, but they did not rush us and even asked if we wanted dessert!! At the end we were offered 2 gift cards because the manager knew we were traveling and could eat at a different location on the way...which we will!!! I dined with a friend today. Neither of us were very hungry, so we ordered a drink and we each ordered a plate of Lodge Chips. They brought both orders on one plate when we clearly ordered two. We didn't request or want a shared plate. They did it to screw us over. We knew we were getting one order with them trying to tell us it was two, it was far from our first visit. Our order was taken by Adrian and brought by another female server who told us"they just put both orders on one plate". I didn't even have to complain. As soon as Adrian saw what they attempted to do, he made it right without being asked. Lazy kitchen staff staff who didn't want to make two orders, and a server who knowingly supported that decision and tried to rip us off. We're still never coming back, but we appreciate Adrian's integrity. He might be the only person who works there who has any. Adrian gets 5 Stars. None for the rest of you. read more

Mr. Mikes couldn't be more generic if it had a yellow label and found on the bottom shelf of the Real Canadian Superstore. There's virtually nothing distinguishing itself from a dozen different franchises like Boston Pizza, Original Joes, or Applebee's. Blindfold me, lead me in, and I wouldn't be able to name where I was with any degree of certainty. With that, I shall make up a generic name to call them all. I shall call them... Mr. Boston Applejoes While inside Mr. Boston Applejoes--which honestly sounds a little dirty--I found all the usual vapidities of casual fine dining: the entire décor was smothered in various shades of brown; the menu was laminated with photos for those unwilling to read, and the layout is so confusing, you'd get lost on the way to the bathroom. The menu offerings looked appetizing, but dreams rarely match reality. I notice that whenever I drink coffee. Sure it looks good, and when using words like mocha, latte, and pumpkin spice, it certainly offers the impression that it would be good...but then I taste it and remember...it's still coffee. About the only thing I like with coffee in the name is Coffee Crisp, and that has about as much actual coffee as it does nutritional value. I think they call it Coffee Crisp in the same way that companies have to put those warning labels on chocolate bars if there's a chance they've been in contact with peanuts. Perhaps it's been diluted to such an extent that no original molecules remain--they might as well call it Homeopathic Chocolate Covered Wafers. ...Anyways, coming full circle, Mr. Boston Applejoes is the Coffee Crisp of restaurants. It's been diluted, only the mere scent of a restaurant remains. My eventual selection was advertised as "sliced sirloin sautéed to perfection, creamy peppercorn sauce, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, green onions and asiago with triple elbow (as if two weren't good enough) noodles." Firstly, the noodles in my peppercorn sirloin pasta were under-seasoned, if seasoned at all. Secondly, to compensate, the sauce had far too much salt. This is an unfortunate truth in franchise restaurants, as salted water contributes to corrosion in expensive pots. Thirdly, said sauce wasn't mixed into the dish, with a mound of semi-moist pasta sitting over a bowl of peppercorn "soup", with the mushrooms wallowing at the bottom leaving an unappetizing conclusion to my meal. These are not mistakes made by chefs; these are mistakes made by workers in a factory line. Finally, and I fully admit nitpicking, it's not called triple-elbow pasta--only children call them that. It's called Cavatappi, proving that Mr. Mikes is pandering. As for the other patrons at my table, one suffered from a dairy intolerance, and instead of attempting to create something both appealing and accommodating, all the chef's did--or rather those working the line--was steam some broccoli and dump it next to a mound plain rice. I know it's difficult when someone has such an encompassing intolerance, but an intelligent and creative chef would have taken it as a challenge and made sure his or her customer was satisfied. To charge full price for such an underwhelming plate that lacked a shred of originality is disappointing. And to top it off, the meal cost more than one at Boston Pizza, with the latter at least not charging an extra three dollars for garlic bread. With the aforementioned competition just down the street, I honestly don't know the appeal of Mr. Boston Applejoes. I admit this is an overly negative review, so I'll diffuse that by saying that I've heard their burgers are really good, but so are Red Robin's. I heard their steaks are good, but so are The Keg's. The décor, though unoriginal and unexciting, isn't cheap. I'll also admit Mr. Boston Applejoes is better than the restaurant it replaced. But that doesn't make it a recommendation by any stretch. In the spectrum of casual franchise restaurants, Mr. Mikes occupies a low rung in an increasing mediocre list. I said in my review of Boston Pizza that despite always preferring a local restaurant, I'll never object to eating there. The food is just good enough and the prices are just good enough to not make me upset at the experience. Mr. Mikes is not that good. This is the best eatery in Prince George, we have never had a bad meal or service here. We got seated in the lounge one evening which was quite loud, my wife mentioned this to me, our server must have heard her, next thing we know we are being moved to the dining room without even asking, that attention to a customers needs is not even heard of these days. Only thing is they took the Thai Steak and noodles of the menu, that makes me sad was one of my favorite dishes. read more

When we finally could tell her She didn't even look at us first kept talking to others then came to us and said ' I didn't bring the food up'. Finally main dish is here, unfortunately baby carrots were mostly mushy, very over cooked. The other dish was disappointed as well. Will we go back again? NO. Long wait for a table and slightly slow food service but otherwise an excellent night with good service and food. Having never been to a Mr Mike's before and new to PG, I was a bit wary but was pleasantly surprised. Hubby enjoyed his rib eye classic style (enough for leftovers!) but I though my bugaboo (?name) ribs were better. They were moist and came off the bone so cleanly. Sauce was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. Loved the fries, but not the coleslaw. I'd say this is a less formal Keg with pretty on par food. While the service was great, and the staff agreeable and attentive, the food was mediocre for the price. I had the Smuggler's Cove Sirloin. It was on the menu as a 6oz steak, but I doubt that it was plated at that weight. It was bland in flavour, but at the same time, also cooked to a perfect medium rare. The scallops were paper thin and the shrimp tasted like the ones that come in a zip lock bag from Costco. The price point on this meal was $28 for the entree. The best thing on the plate was the twice-baked potato. The small amount of accompanying veg. could have been out of a bag of frozen mixed veg from Save-On or across the street at Superstore. This, as I said is no fault of the wait or kitchen staff, but more of a food quality issue. For a restaurant that wants to be ranked with the Keg and charges very similar prices, I expected a whole lot more.... It was not an unpleasant experience, simply one that left me saying; "Meh!" when I left and disappointed my bank account was $80 lighter for the three of us (2 adults, one kid). Again - to reiterate; the staff were great, which is why I gave the three stars... the food was a bit anticlimactic... five stars requires me leaving and commenting on a great evening and remembering the flavours I experienced while getting, what I believe to be, value for my money.... yeah... I wrote a post here a few months ago but it seems to have disappeared as did the one on Mr.Mikes comment section. A Group of us nurses went to celebrate the job transfer of a coworker and after waiting for 1/2 hr and watching numerous others go in (understandably as we needed a big area for 12)--we were treated shamelessly by Dave the manager. He was beyond rude - basically we were told we had at least another hour to wait (it was now 7:15) and that they don't do reservations as well--"we don't need to"-- he told me to look around as he didn't need our money!!~ We were stunned by his comments and stood outside figuring out what to do next. The next day one of the group called Head office and complained and low and behold Dave gave her a call--said he was having a bad day and wanted to come after us--I call BS as we were standing out there for at least 5 minutes. He had ample time to come and apologize. I love the food there and will consider going back when Dave is no longer there. No one should go and pay good money to be looked down on!! read more
