I flew in to New Orleans for a friend's wedding and went shopping the day of to find a dress (long…read morestory). Went to Saks at 11 am when they opened, found a dress that was at least a foot too long, and bought it thinking I'd just cut it myself if needed since it was a scuba material and doesn't fray when cut (just needs stitched at the side seams). Luckily, instead of ruining a brand new dress trying to do the DIY method, I quickly googled tailors in the area and found Tailors International a couple of blocks from our hotel. My boyfriend took the dress in at noon for them to look at, I walked over an hour later to put it on for pinning (while on a virtual work call), and Tailors was patient and efficient enough to work it in between other jobs and complete by 2:30 pm, incredible! They did (unsurprisingly) a much better job than I ever would've done and made the afternoon so much less stressful than it could and should have been. Even had it not been such an impressive quick turnaround, the work itself was fabulous! He hemmed it exactly where I wanted it to be (I am so glad he reminded me to wear my shoes to the pinning rather than just tell him how much to take off) and the cut/stitching was flawless!

Needless to say, the dress was too small and needed to be taken out a little bit. I didn't have time to get it altered in San Antonio so I took a gamble and headed to NOLA with the intention of finding a place there. This place was recommended to me by a bellhop at the Astor Crown Plaza where I was staying. Barbara and the seamstress were very friendly and my dress was altered for $30 in less than 3 hours! The dress fit perfectly for the wedding! I would use this place all the time if I lived in NOLA!

They charged $9 to clean my $200 top and returned and it damaged. I have multiple 2 dot indentations throughout the blouse like vampire teeth and these marks can only be made with a machine. But some time in the last year, they hired a new person for the front of the store. In six or eight months of going every 10 days or two weeks, the new person has never looked me straight in the eye. She has yet to say a single welcoming or happy word to me -- not even "hello." Her greeting is "phone number?" in a sullen tone of voice. OK, I get that their system identifies customers by phone number, but really, is that a greeting? How about "hello. Can I get your phone number to look you up?" Is that so hard? Asking her to note that a spot needs particular attention gets a sigh and an oppressed look. It's just depressing to come here, so I'm going elsewhere.
