Used them before for paining in 2021 and was satisfied. Called them to remove boards and install screening on attic gable vents. They provide an estimate which matches what their handyman onsite quoted except the guy they sent doesn't have the right material to do it despite me sending pictures of the size screen I need and confirming that I did not need to get the product but they would have it. He also thinks he can install it from the outside and knows nothing about removing the boards to open the ventilation. Despiste the gables being clearly visible from the outside with no boards on them. Communicating back and forth to the office and owner takes an hour of my time. They apologize and say how the guy is new blah blah blah ... after which they decide the best course of action would be to order the product I specified (duh) and send out someone else to look at it and confirm the estimate. A day after the second guy takes a look, I get an estimate that is about 50% more with no explanation why just a text that says we'd like to schedule the same day and the estimate is final. Odd since the materials won't even arrive until next week. The estimate states that the work is on a GARAGE window and attic. The garage was never part of what I requested. These folks have serious communication problems. What a waste of 4 days of my time and breath. Will not use ever again and would not suggest to anyone. read more

After highly recommending Mr. Handyman to my neighbors we again called them to have our piston on our screen door replaced. Trevor, who is an excellent mechanic, replaced it and charged us an exorbitant amount for a $25.00 part. and for minimal labor. We felt we were extremely overcharged and will now never recommend their services again. In fact, three other neighbors have asked us who installed our attic door and I have since sent to another contractor since their rates are so out of line. read more

Kelvin came to our home to help source a leak that was causing damage to a basement window frame & drywall. He was incredibly professional and worked quickly and efficiently, not only did he find the problem but he quickly remedied it, the framework on the window and a small area of drywall needed removing and Kelvin recommended waiting 5days to let it dry out thoroughly before repairing the window frame,etc. Kelvin returned exactly as promised and the repair job is exemplary! Asked them to come to assist with a few things. Guy told me to hire him to come back the next day and pay him cash to do the other jobs as he would charge me less than the company. He was just hired to fix leaking gutter. He worked quite slowly. convenient for an hourly job. A few months later, I received an email from the company about their promise to get the job done right. So I called regarding the work that wasn't done right (gutters), since they're still leaking. The manager threatened to sue me for soliciting. LOL!! I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

Be careful. Each one is individually owned and operated. We learned this the hard way. One franchise (New Jersey - Tri-County) had bad marketing tactics. I received an email coupon that I mentioned during booking. The customer service agent did not bother to tell me that her franchise had no such coupon. Instead, she let me believe I could use it, "just show the email to the technician." Turns out, the $50 coupon was issued by a different franchise, and they wouldn't except it. My guess (not confirmed) is that the Customer Service agent gets paid for each booking she makes, and therefore didn't bother to tell me on the phone that the coupon would not be accepted. The owner of this franchise was combative on the phone, e.g. "How do you expect my staff to know every coupon out there?" My response - it's your company, you would certainly know better than a customer. 1. Each franchise has different coupons 2. Customers that live on the border of each franchise area may not realize the franchise differences The other franchise (New Jersey - S. Orange, Westifield, Scotch Plains) is GREAT! The handyman did a good job , however the charge was ridiculous. Replacing an inside door. I didn't mind paying for his time to pick up the door at the home depot, but paying almost $200 for a hollow average size door, the hinges, door knob, and the pieces of stop molding and not be given a copy of the receipt. Charged for the time to clean up. I believe I was definitely overcharged. They continue to refuse to give me a copy of the receipt from Home Depot. read more

Ashley is great. He fixed our drywall damaged by a failed TV wall mounting several months ago. The job was perfectly done. Last week, a tree fell on our deck and damaged many boards and a whole section of handrails. Ashley came today and managed to fix the floor with the exact replacement boards. The floor looks like never have been damaged. He is searching for the matching handrails and lights now. I feel very confident that he will do a great job, and this peace in mind is priceless, especially after the terrible experience with the TV mounting job done by another handyman company. read more

Last year I had someone come out to help caulk the shower. The person they sent out had no idea what they were doing and made it even worse. I called a few months later to complain that it was falling apart and the lady had the nerve to ask why I waited so long and was extremely rude and condescending in her email/calls. She told me they got rid of the guy because he didn't know what he was doing. Then she had the nerve to tell me it would be over $1,000 to fix something they caused!! We had Mr. Handyman come recently to repair a medium sized hole in our ceiling drywall. First let me say that the guy did amazing work. He was clean, courteous, thorough and is an incredible tradesman, he should get a raise. Because of HIM and HIS work, I want to give 5 stars, but for the experience with the company, I give it a 2 (Id give a 3 but since yelp identifies it as "A OK" that does not match how I feel. To start, what is frustrating is that we were never told at the beginning how long it was going to take, and most of this job involved drying time, which I know is beyond our control but what a way to spend 108$ an hour. So when all said and done, what was really only a couple of hours of work ended up taking almost 7 (8-2:30) Allow me to explain in more detail. I was at work, and my wife was home when he arrived, and he ended up having to go to home depot to get sheetrock; ok, fine. Once he got back, and installed the actual piece of sheet rock (that was the one thing I didn't feel comfortable doing myself, hence why we called Mr. Handyman in the first place) my wife told him that we would spackle, sand and paint ourselves, he was a little pushy and talked my wife out of it. She is not good in high pressure sales situations, so she acquiesced and he ended up spackling and priming. I mean I get it, the guy is a professional, he wants to finish a job he starts, but if a customer tells you what they want, then you should leave it at that, not talk them into spending more money. He also did a few odd jobs that I had been meaning to get to while he was waiting for the spackle to dry so that was a plus, and he even called another guy to come look at our screened in porch, free of charge. When I finally got home from work at 2 pm, I told him that since we were already at the $700 mark, to cap it, and I would do the rest....more pushback. He said he had to call the office, which he did, and when he got off the phone he once again tried to convince me to finish the job, but frankly we couldn't afford for him to stay any longer, we simply did not have the funds to continue to pay him. At the end of the job, everything said and done it was $900 and change. He said that the work would not be guaranteed, and if I was unhappy, I was essentially on my own, which I understand but at the same time based on how much I paid, am annoyed about. Had I known from the start, with a more thorough discussion with the main office or with the guy BEFORE he started, we would have never gone through with the job. He was apologetic, and again I told him I understood, the onus is on me and my wife for not being extremely specific in what we wanted or doing more research/asking questions from the get go. In the end, like I said before, he did great work, but I am not happy with how pushy the "office" made him be and the lack of being given sufficient information. read more

I hired these guys to hang tvs, 3. The handyman was here all day, cost me too much money. I got a sloppy job hanging tvs, leaving holes in my wall. I am a senior I did not know better. The nice guy said he would return the next day to paint one of the holes in my wall that he did patch. I normally try to get at least three quotes before I select a service to be done. Needless to say I have removed Mr. Handyman from my short and long list. Had a couple of small repairs that had been driving me nuts, Mr. Handyman came in and took care of them without any problems. The repairman put on booties over his shoes as to not dirty my floors as soon as he walked in, which was a huge plus right off the bat. He left no mess behind after he stripped the caulking in my shower to re-caulk it. He helped me figure out a leaky sink to get the right person for the job( he didn't take it on himself knowing it wasn't in his range) and he fixed my running toilet but not before pricing the piece he would have to use to make sure it would be OK with me. I've used New Jersey - Tri-County Mr. Handyman several times before and never had any problems with them. That's because I never had any problems with the work. But several months ago their handyman came out and replaced a garbage disposal for me. Garbage disposal worked just fine. I don't use my dishwasher very often, but several months later I ran the dishwasher and it wasn't working. I called the dishwasher repairman and he told me the problem was that the knockout plug wasn't removed from the disposal, which is connected to the dishwasher. He told me he isn't authorized to do repair on non-Bosch products and said I need to call the disposal installer, I paid him $137 for his service call and then called Mr. Handyman to request someone come and fix the disposal. I also said I expected to be reimbursed for the $137 that their installer poor work cost me. When they told me they weren't responsible for that bill, I told them of course they were; it was their improper installation that caused my dishwasher not to work. When they argued with me, I told them I would post a review of the bad service I was getting from them and make sure I tell anyone I talk to what poor customer service they provide. They said they would refund me the $207 they charged me and scheduled a repairman to come a few days later. When the repairman didn't show up, they told me they returned my money and aren't responsible for repairs on work they didn't get paid for. Long story short, this is an example of one of the worst customer service experiences any company can provide. A company must not only own up to their mistake and fix it, but they also have a responsibility to make sure the customer is satisfied with the resolution and that includes not having to pay extra for the company's mistake. Considering the average service call fee for a plumber is between $75 and $150, not including the time spent for the work, their business policy puts the burden of their mistake on the customer. Buyer beware: this company is unprofessional, nasty, and uncaring about its customers. They apparently don't care about repeat business and don't seem to be able to own up to their mistakes without getting defensive. They don't even deserve 1 star. read more

I called them to adjust faucet fixtures for hot/cold, install shower baskets on bathroom tiles and patch a hole in the drywall. They took $420 for 3 hours and left me with a bad after taste. I'm not calling them again. The service isn't remarkable as most reviews rave. The guy was nice but very inexperienced. He took too long to figure out how to work with standard faucets. Perhaps because he was working by the hour and eventually did not even achieve the hot/cold balance that we called him for. The guy used a titanium drill on marble and left it chipped irregularly in places. He should have used a diamond drill bit to poke holes in marble. I inspected his work closely after he left and discovered only after he left. Inexperience, else he'd have been careful. He was able to patch a hole in drywall without issues and that's unremarkable. read more

Horrible horrible technician and customer service!!! The technician sent was very unprofessional and didn't know how to do the work correctly. We called the service of replacing shower faucet and pull handle. Understanding that handyman is not licensed to do plumbing work, I told the handyman just to replace the part that he could handle. However, even just replacing the faucet, he didn't do it correctly and caused the water leakage, the leakage was so bad that in 1 hour my neighbor downstairs already had water damage to their ceiling. I had to call a plumber to fix the leakage immediately. Then when I called the next day for this issue, the office was very rude and didn't intend to resolve the issue, the office lady told me that they could only sent the SAME technician back to see what plumber did before they could do anything. Why would I want to get the person who didn't know how to do the work to open my faucet again and see what the plumber did, after a plumber fixing it???!!! I paid the full $309 for the handyman service, $375 for the plumber, and I am waiting for the bill the owner downstairs is going to send for repair their damage. read more
