It's YE Gurl -- this time, reporting live from the land of Books & Bubbles! Thanks Jasmine for…read moreputting this event together. Pulled up to the Books and Bubbles Book Fair on 4/17 at The Five Party and Event Center in Columbus, OH -- and y'all, it was a whole vibe! The venue was cute, spacious, and had plenty of room for all the amazing local authors showcasing their work -- plus a little game room in the back for some extra fun. (You know I love a well-rounded event!) Highlights: * Met incredible authors like Larry Robertson (wordssavedlives.com), Signe Damron (signe-ture.com), Jordan Burton (theartbyjburt.com), Joseph Doherty (joeydoherty.com), Sylvia Harris (srdharrisbooks.com), and Lachandra Baker (lbbedutainment.com). * Copped two animated kids' books for $25 -- signed directly to my beau's niece, who immediately clutched them like treasures. ("It says my name!" she screamed as her mom got guilt-tripped into reading them...again. ) AND I got a book of poetry from Larry, and will plan to visit Jordan's art exhibit at ROY G BIV before the end at May 2nd! It warmed my heart to recognize faces from the Main Library Literary Fair, the First Annual Poetry Festival, and Zora's House events. Considering my ancestors risked their lives to read, I don't take the beauty of these moments lightly. Major love and respect to everyone keeping the literary flame alive. Final verdict: If you love books, community, and a good glass of bubbly, put this fair on your must-do list next year. See what other events are happening at The Five or create your own event there! Support local voices -- they're writing our future.

Mostly toddlers, and parents were on top of them, so it wasn't chaotic. Forgot all about the app, but it does sound like it is worthwhile. Got 60 minutes of games, which gets you 30 extra, so 90 for $28 I think. Go for that- better deal and you don't want to get 30 or 45 and run out. Loads of different games, she had fun, I had fun. Got a half pepp half cheese pizza, and enjoyed it more. Not amazing, but not bad. Still overpriced. I didn't even notice the salad bar till we were leaving, and for I think $11 it wouldn't be bad- not huge, but a decent amount of choices and all looked fresh. If it is AYCE it's a great deal. Service was great, minimal but friendly and helpful. She got a few trinkets. Tickets/points add up and roll over, so save the card or check the app, and use them next time. All in all a fun time, for a kid and even for me. Avoid weekends. Go when you can run all over and play anything. It ain't cheap but as an occasional splurge they love it.

Also - the place smelled like pot and the bathrooms were completely unsanitary and disgusting.

We had a tough audience of 3x 2-3 year old girls with toddler attention spans, 3x 1 year old boys running around, and a lot of adults. Princess Elsa really worked to keep everyone engaged. It was like having a real life Ms. Rachel in our house but as a singing princess! She also knew other princess songs, not just from Frozen. Multiple people told me after the party how impressive Princess Elsa was in handling an audience like that. It was so impressive! Moreover she helped host the party. She had a variety of activities and told me when the cake should come out and entertained while I had to do things like slice the cake. I truly cannot say enough good things about the performer. The company/Paulette is also great. I emailed very last minute about the party and they still found a princess. We go to their events at our local Parks and Rec and the "Kid Pops" event they put on in Dublin last summer and really enjoy it all. We haven't been to the Worthington location yet, but are going to the Mother Daughter Princess Tea for Mother's Day! I'm not even a princess person myself. However, the events always make my daughter happy and that makes me happy. I'm really glad to have them in Columbus!

My daughter is on the spectrum and has a hard time being patient and staying quiet due to her echolalia. While all the princesses were nice to her, Elsa (also her favorite princess) was so kind and patient with her without me even having to mention that she was on the spectrum. My daughter isn't one to be touched either and the way she embraced Elsa and Elsa embraced her back brought me to tears. My daughter didn't want to let her go. Sometimes people just have an aura and light about them and this Elsa just exuded kindness. The moments my daughter shared with Elsa will forever be a core memory for me. I hope my daughter is still obsessed with Frozen in November and that this special actress is available. Thank you for this experience and for this special moment for my little girl.

Michael Kent - Michael Kent, Comedy Magician in Columbus, OH

Michael Kent

I first saw Michael Kent perform when I was in college - intrigued by the "Comedian, Magician,…read moreSmartass" tagline, I went to the student union to check out his performance. As the tagline suggests, Michael's act is a combination of humor and magic - mocking magic while simultaneously impressing the audience with magic. Knowing that Michael also performed for corporate and other types of events besides university programming, I asked him to attend a Tweetup with about 100 people. He performed tricks during networking, and the crowd fell in love with him when he finally performed his act. A few months later when I was organizing a fundraiser, I used him as the main attraction - folks from the first event showed up eager to see him again as well as many new faces. I got tremendous feedback from his performance - and of course I loved it, despite having heard most of the jokes and seen the tricks three times, his act still makes me smile! Michael tours nationally throughout the year - he's heading to Korea in a few days to entertain the troops - but he lives right here in Central Ohio, so if you need an entertainer for your next event, call up the local boy :)

'Awesomes!' and 'What's?' to count, and it was a great opportunity for our team members to be able to include their whole family in something that they were doing for work. I loved that even in a virtual setting, he was able to include members of the audience, and he had different camera angles, music, and lighting. The quality of the production and the magic that was performed were both extremely professional and like something you would expect to see on television or in a live Las Vegas show. From a planning perspective, Michael was extremely easy to work with and willing and able to accommodate the Zoom format that we needed. He made preparation for the event so easy! If you want someone who is funny, a true professional, a phenomenal entertainer, and down to earth, you will be thrilled with Michael Kent. I highly recommend him!

The staff was also awesome. Blake was helpful in maintaining the line and entertaining the kids while we waited for the cinema. His joy was infectious and he seemed to love his job. A woman was helping the minifigure walk around to meet the kids and noticed my kids were so excited; she made an effort to circle back even after he'd gone into the staff only area and I was so grateful. I wish I'd gotten her name because she went above and beyond. We had a pretzel with cheese and a drink while we were there. The food was fine, typical for this sort of place, but we needed a moment to reset since we stayed for about 3 hours. My kids loved both of the rides and we did them several times. We watched three of the movies and then my kids (8 and 4) enjoyed playing with Legos and the play area. I'm glad we were able to take advantage of a July 4th coupon but overall it was a great value and I would recommend a visit to anyone interested in Legos.

This was $150 for two hours, 20 people, two rounds of golf for 10 of them. That's a great deal, considering that's about the price just for the golf, and the kids had a blast. And as a parent, it was pretty fun too. Staff were superb, helping us set up and clean up. Communication was great start to finish; I stopped in to check it out, scheduled online, got a call a week before to finalize, and had great help that day. The place looks small from the outside, and is not huge, but the small party room (there are two and can be combined) was plenty big enough. You can decorate but not with tape or nails, etc. There's a fridge in one of the small rooms, and a rack for food/supplies/presents, plus several tables. The birthday girl gets a lighted button, glow cup, pen, and a ticket for a free game next visit. There are 18 holes, and they were fun, for kids and adults. Everything is lit with blacklights, and there are "chargers" to amp up the ball glow. Disney music was playing, fun for the kids, and tolerable for the rest of us. I saw couples and groups of young adults playing too. They're moving into a bigger place over by the Little Caesar's at Agler and Stygler. Moving during May 2023 so closed, then opening in June. We'll definitely be there.
