Under new management! I'm so happy one of my favorite vegan restaurants in LA had a change of direction. The overall vibe of this place has completely changed since Shaka took over and I'm delighted that the fun and welcoming aesthetic now matches the service that you get. The food is good and the service is friendly. However, the reopening event was not very successful. Only a handful of people in line, but because of a lack of staff and maybe a back up of orders, it took over an hour to put your order in. People eventually got their food, but many left with frowny faces. read more

Pretty terrible location. I'm a huge fan of the Fairfax location but I don't even know what's going on here. Staff isn't attentive, forgot everyone's drinks every time an order came out. Had an awesome view of the microwave where you get to watch staff heat up your pretty expensive fast food burgers without gloves on either. Wasn't a huge fan of the food quality, fries were snap them in half crispy so mostly inedible. Generally down to give places a pass but when it costs what it does it's hard to over look bad quality. Top it all off got some gross pubey looking hair right on top of my closed box of food. I've been to the LA location and this is pretty much the same. It taste like how I remember the big arches tasted before I stoped eating meat. I love the not chicken sandwich and not a cheeseburger. Both very nostalgic. Decor is cute.. staff was ok. I only interacted with them once when I arrived "hello, welcome" and to pick up my order. If you live on the west side you know traffic can hold you hostage especially on a Friday. So I caved and gave this place yet another try. And NOPE, ten thumbs down. It's like someone woke up one day and said to themselves "hey I like eating at restaurants I could run one". If this place lasts the year I'll be stunned. The food somehow comes out cold and or burnt or both no matter how long you wait. The line moves like molasses and they have maybe two employees. This is gotta be one of my favorite vegan restaurants around! I cannot believe that there is finally a healthy vegan fast food option that's way better than McDonald's! Had all the locations but particularly this one the staff was so accommodating. I do love this place, and want to continue loving it. The food is a guiltless pleasure, and many of us do have an itch for that fast good slime that Mr. Charlie's perfectly scratches. The prices are a little high for what feels like fast food, but it always tastes great and I know there's a lot more that goes into producing their food than if I got it at some drive-thru. I've tried pretty much every menu item and enjoyed them all. That said, my girlfriend and I used to come by regularly for their weekday deals, but she really doesn't like cheese (even non-dairy); many of the deals are for items with cheese, and we had just been asking them to hold it. The last two times we've been in, they told us they could not hold the cheese, which seems baffling to me. Last time, someone who I guess is higher up than entry-level said it's because it would be confusing for the kitchen staff... The place is never busy, and it's very small. Just put a note: no cheese. Instead of four ingredients, we want three. It's not serious, but unfortunately, we won't be back until they can hold the cheese. That's actually what this review is about. We do love and miss the place, even though their customer service has never been phenomenal. Their staff is generally friendly, but often seem untrained, high, or both. It's like McDonalds but better, with lots of "copycat" recipes that have improved on the classic McDonalds meals. The staff are super nice and I could happily eat the Big Chuck (big mac) every day. Swung by Mr. Charlie's today and had a great experience! - Super friendly & helpful server, who was very clear about how long my order would take - Place was spotless clean - I tried the Royal w/ cheese, the Not a Chicken Sandwich and some fries Royale: this is the qtr pounder slot. A lot of places that serve an impossible patty (I don't know if this is Impossible) give you a pretty small burger. This was NOT like that. Good stuff. Loved it. Piping hot too. I love Mr. Charlie's though the Santa Monica is VERY inconsistent. They continually have gotten my orders wrong, and the food is hardly ever hot. After seeing the grand opening this of this place, I was very excited to see a new vegan restaurant opened up in Brentwood With little to no competition in the vegan space I was highly disappointed with the outcome of the experience after being greeted by absolutely no one in the front and waiting around for a few minutes before my order was even taken. I settled on the not chicken nuggets. I was pleasantly disappointed with the the taste as well as the smell. They had a rather potent smell of fish for some reason. Went to Mr. Charlie's in SaMo on a weeknight, had the restaurant mostly to myself. Ordered a Mr. Chuck, fries and a coke from the kiosk. Food was brought to the counter promptly, and I sat and ate at the counter by the front window to eat. I've been vegetarian for the better part of 20 years, so I haven't eaten a burger from the other red/yellow restaurant since high school. The Mr. Chuck brought back memories from when I used to be a line cook at a Big Boy, juicy, delicious and filling. Fries were excellent, with ketchup on the side, though they were great plain as well. The Hamburgler and Fry Kids would definitely approve. Food was perhaps a tad pricey, but was very fresh and flavorful. The decor in the restaurant was over the top, with a photo booth and small play area for kids, totally decked out in red and yellow graphics.
