Really unfortunate to write this review because I love supporting local business and have spent hundreds of dollars at this establishment through the years as I live in the neighborhood. Rode my bike up to grab a quick snack and drink and was scolded that I could not lock my bike in front of their shop. There are no bike racks or anything of the sort around so had to park it on a street sign (which is technically illegal but best option I could find). I'll be frequenting another corner store going forward. read more

Just because I haven't experienced worst service I the last decade. The young kid behind the register tells me that I have to take my mask off at purchase. I'm in my 40's and you can tell by the wrinkles around my eyes. I pull down my mask letting him know that this is wrong and next he needs my ID. I pull out my ID and he needs to inspect it in his hands WITHOUT gloves. Store policy? I would usually have been gone at the look of disgust in his eyes when I walked to the counter but wanted to see if this would end positively (I'm big on that). Not a thank you. Employees need to learn to check ID's properly here. Embarrassing that a liquor store employs people who don't understand what an out of state ID looks like. Don't even bother with the rudeness and stupidity, and take your business elsewhere. read more

Tbh I never write reviews but I'm still salty about this one so here you go; this 6" foot Asian guy (idk his name) turned away my Ca DL because "It looks like I would be my brother in the ID". I said fine, because I haven't changed my picture since I was 17 so I went back to my car (it was pouring, I was soaking wet by the time I went back in) and grabbed my US passport. Guess what he said, yea idk I don't have a good feeling about this, so he didn't accept that either. Pro tip bro, why in the hell would I be trying to use "my brothers ID" to buy beer if I look way older than the picture??? I have a beard and glasses now but I literally look the same. Not only that but what underage person would be buying lagunitas IPA!? Do you know how bitter they are? Most of my friends (which are all 25+) don't like them, you think a minor would be buying that? F**k off; this is the first time I have been turned away (although this is like the 5th time this guy mad dogs me when I try to buy something for some reason). Here I was debating whether to go to Mr. Bucks to say what's up to Chuck if he was there or just 7-11 which is closer anyways. I went shopping at Tainted Kiss on fairview in Costa Mesa and was thirsty so i went next door to the liquor store to get a bottle of water. I didn't know which water to choose so i just chose the cheapest one which was their Arrowhead brand. It was like a dollar, but that seemed kind of pricey to me but whatevers. I wonder why anyone would spend $2.00 on the Evian bottle of water, seems kind of stiff for just water...., i mean...Have you ever tried spelling Evian backwards??.....hmm...maybe that explains why some people would pay the $2.00.... I normally don't write reviews but I'm still bitter by this young kid behind the counter that wouldn't accept my out of state ( Hawaiian) id. I grew up in Costa Mesa and even attended CMHS so going to lil pickle and grabbing a candy bar at Mr. Bucks has always been a go to. Of course when I come back to visit I love helping out my local businesses I grew up with, but this time little homie thought my ID was fake even after he scanned it ( I'm 35). Normally I would be flattered to look under age and then prove to them how old I really am and proceed with my day, but this dude wouldn't even sell to me and had to nerve to tell me " to take it as a compliment" GTFOH. I will take my service elsewhere. If you have an out of state identification I advise you to try a different location it's not worth the hassle. read more

I am a regular customer at Mr. Buck's, this evening I happen to be using my brother's credit card, he is also a regular at the store, the employee Drake, refused to allow me to use the card, to spite the fact that he recognized me and knows me I protested not being able.to use the card given the fact I am a daily customer, Drake then became physically aggressive with me, literally pushing me out of the store, he was quite threatening as I noticed he also had a knife on his belt. He proceeded to use profanity towards me. There was also another employee, whose name I do not know, that witnessed the situation, he too was armed with a knife. I am completely appalled by their behavior. The owner, John Chang, is actually a nice guy and I plan on informing him of his employees horrible behavior towards loyal customers. I doubt this is how he wants his customers to be treated. So disappointing! read more

Great selection of mid to low range wines with decent prices and good to better then good beer choices especially popular craft beers. Tons of snacks and supplies in a pinch. read more

Great owner,and store,been going here for years,must say though one of the newer guys is not attentive to customer service,and just stands behind the counter,if you don't know where something is he doesn't verbally give you enough direction to find it yourself,or come show you,he has a bit of an stand of fish attitude when left alone,I hope this changes soon,I feel it may be affecting the business.Maybe short staffing is an issue. read more

This place is celebrating 18 years. I have been going here since the beginning. I would go with my uncle when I was a kid. He would buy beer and usually buy me a candy, chips, toys ect. Now I'm buying brew there and I understand why my uncle bought beer there and not anywhere else. The workers are super chill and helpful. Their beer and wine selection are top notch. I don't understand the positive reviews. I come here a few times a year on vacation. It's close to where I stay. The staff is always friendly. I will say that. Sure they have a wide variety in their craft beer selection, but everything is old. Tonight I spent 10 minutes trying to find a fresh IPA. The freshest one was 3 months old. And the bottles they did have were over priced. $10 for a 22oz Stone shelfie? That's more $7-8. read more

Great front end tobacco & blunt selection, light on the beer. Fantastic assortment of cheap wines for the dollar connoisseur. Good liquor selection but pricing favors small bottles, strangely. This is actually a better pre-party stop than most of the liquor stores in the area, including the drive-thru liquor store around Baker. Came to get tequila for a birthday gift. Very nice woman (didn't get her name) took the time to go over their selection and even wrapped a bow around the bottle. The store is also a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Huge wine selection. I'll have to come back when I have more time to give the store a better browse. read more
