I was conducting business next door and saw this place was packed so I went in and got a birria plate to see what the commotion was about. Wow, it was a generous portion of great, tender well seasoned, juicy birria. They have good salsa too. The tortillas, rice and beans take a backseat as the birria is the star of the show. Food came out fast even though they were busy with in store and togo orders.

It's been a long time since we have visited Mr. Birria. I called in the order this time so the pictures don't quite do the food justice but it was so good! My husband had the Queso Birria Tacos extra crispy (dorado in Spanish) they were awesome! So much birria and flavor. I had the 1/2 order of birria stew with flour tortillas. The consommé was so flavorful and full of birria. There were lots of onions, cilantro, and limes to enhance the flavor. The updates they have made since the last time we were there are great. They opened up the restaurant, it's at least double in size and has quite a bit more seating. There is a great self service salsa bar with lots of tasty salsas, chili oil, and toppings. They also have several options for Agua Frescas. As always the service was great and with a smile. We will definitely be back soon!

Delicious! Surf and turf quesadilla, pico, crema? Etc... on da side.

Though I love birria, there is a glorious video of their surf and turf quesadilla on Facebook, which lured me to visit recently. I got it with the crema, guac, pico etc... on the side; just a quesadilla with proteins and cheese. It was savory and delicious all alone doing the video justice; succulent shrimp, tasty tender Carne, gooey cheese...bam! The place is large but not much for ambience as it's all about the food. I'll eventually get to the Birria, but this quesadilla is my main squeeze for now.

If you're looking for some of the best birria in San Diego, Mr. Birria in Santee absolutely delivers. The flavor is rich, deep, and perfectly seasoned -- you can tell they take their time with it. The meat is tender, juicy, and the consommé is packed with flavor. I always add bone marrow to my birria order, and it takes it to another level -- seriously delicious. They also have pretty solid fish taco deals, which are a great option if you're going with a group and want variety. And don't sleep on the carne asada fries -- generous portion, well layered, and super satisfying. Overall, this spot is consistently good, flavorful, and worth the drive. Definitely one of my go-to places when I'm craving legit birria in San Diego.

This is such a good spot for tacos. I got their taco box and each taco was filled with meat it was perfection. I ordered the nachos as well and they didn't disappoint. This will be a place I take my friends when they visit, it's that good! The service is great and the food came out fast. There's plenty of seating and parking so dining here is a breeze. 10/10

Haven't been here in a while and forgot how good they are! They've added a lot more to the menu since I last came. I was impressed with their prices!!! A birria ramen and quesatacos (2) combo is currently $15. That's a deal! I also recommend the taco box that comes with 4 different proteins. Super delicious! And the aguas frescas are so refreshing.

Definitely only come here for Birria. It's pretty obvious, it's in the name but had to try the carne asada fries. Carne asada fries 3/5: Lacked so much flavor, fries were very soft, didn't have a crunch and the guacamole wasn't flavorful. Just missed on so many levels. Birria Taco 5/5: I ordered the taco crunch, missed the mark there but didn't mind much as the Birria had lots of flavor! Definitely enjoyed the tacos. Horchata 5/5: Only one size but well worth the money, tasted very good. They also have a cool salsa bar to help yourselves and plenty of seating inside. Salsa is average and didn't really provide too much flavor. Would come back if I'm in the area.

A bit further out of the way from San Diego proper, but this place offers plenty of parking and plenty of seating with food at great prices, so this is excellent for groups. I went here for an early dinner and we were able to order and get our food very quickly. I went with the combo that had birria ramen + 2 queso tacos for $15+tax which is a lot cheaper than if you were to buy them a la carte. Besides, the combo features the items of regular size, not any smaller. The birria ramen had good amounts of meat and the broth (consomme) is not too salty. They use instant ramen for the ramen, but after all, this is a Mexican restaurant, not a ramen shop, so I won't complain; besides, the value is good. The queso taco is a little bit on the oily side, but stuffed with meat and cheese. Dip with the birria ramen consomme and there you go, no need to pay extra for a small side of consomme for your birria tacos. Overall, this place hits the spot and it is super affordable. As long as you are willing to drive (San Diego distances are small compared to, say, LA), you will be rewarded with nicely priced and delicious Mexican food!

    Asada Taco /W Guacamole

The steak tacos at Mr. Birria were so good! Super flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The tortillas were fresh and everything tasted high quality. Service is amazing ,very nice people working here! Definitely coming back!

If you're even thinking about tacos, stop what you're doing and go to Mr. Birria Place. This spot is seriously on another level. The birria is rich, juicy, and packed with flavor--perfectly seasoned and slow-cooked until it practically melts. And those tacos? Crispy on the outside, loaded on the inside, and dunked in that consommé... unreal. Speaking of the consommé, it's hands down one of the best parts. Deep, savory, and comforting--every dip just takes the whole experience up a notch. You can tell everything is made with care and real attention to flavor.
