Lemon Drop and Long Island Iced Tea
    Sophia S.

Visited Mr. Bing's over the weekend for my birthday and had a great time. The bar staff are lively and welcoming! I had a lemon drop, micheladas and my bestie had the Long Island iced tea. The drinks were great and very reasonably priced. The music was my type of music and we stayed until just about closing. The bar was clean and well kept. The seating wasn't bad either. We'll definitely be returning during our next trip out there!

Looking in from the outside this bar looks way divey (ok, it is), but inside is surprisingly habitable.

Does your watch not tell you if it is AM or PM when it displays 1:00? It doesn't matter at Mr Bing's. On any dark and gloomy day or night in San Francisco, if it is 1:00, Mr Bing's is open. There is not much about going to this place except to drink. The music is an loop of 60s and 70s rock with a few more moderns thrown in. It's only playing to help you stop thinking. The straight hard liquor is reasonably priced. You shouldn't be drinking beer without a hard accompaniment. Go elsewhere on Columbus if you're seeking wine or a beer with two or three words in its name. Yes, it is a bit of a dive bar. But it is safe. No one will bother you or judge. It is also on the list of San Francisco Legacy Businesses. I don't love Mr Bing's. I'm not a "psychotic fucking freak", R.I.P., Mr Bourdain. But I like it.

I am big fan of historical paces in San Francisco and Mr. Bing's is just what I needed. Great music, fresh beer and friendly service. Cheers!

Could it BE any more divier? (That's a Chandler, aka Mr. Bing, reference) During the day, it's a pub. At night, it's a lounge. It's a pub and a lounge. It's a pounge. And I am in lub. P.S. "Anthony Bourdain, champion of dirty dives and the souls of cities, is a fan of the dark, late-night environs of Mr. Bing's, having visited it during the filming of his show The Layover in 2012. He famously told The New York Times: 'Anyone who doesn't have a great time in San Francisco is pretty much dead to me. You go there as a snarky New Yorker thinking it's politically correct, it's crunchy granola, it's vegetarian, and it surprises you every time. It's a two-fisted drinking town, a carnivorous meat-eating town, it's dirty and nasty and wonderful.' (SF.Eater.com, 2016)

It's clearly a local's dive bar but there's room for tourist too. The beer is cold and the bartender is friendly. There isn't much seating inside so be prepared to stand or sit outside if there isn't any room.

St. Patrick's Day $5 Jello shot

My friend and I randomly strolled into Mr. Bing's on St. Patrick's day. This was our second stop that night. We saw a sign at the bar that they offered $5 jello shots, so we each got one. We didn't stay long at all, probably under 5 minutes lol just finished our shot and we were onto the next place!

Anthony Bourdain went here and it was a fun spot to drop by and chill for a bit. They were playing 90s pop and it was a warm vibe to be hanging around. No dance floor. Simple bar and a good corner spot to bar hop and onto the next!

Great place to grab a drink when you are in Chinatown . Great atmosphere . Great vibes and good drinks. An almost hidden gem. Not your place for white glove service.

Looks dodgy outside but nice inside. Drinks are good. I got a margarita and it was nicely done for a bar like this They have screens inside AND outside for games. Yes a real cute outside area too with a screen! Check out my pictures for the layout. They have no food but they are right next to China town so a lot of food available around it Service is top notch too. The bar tender was super nice and fast and also answered some questions we had about good places to eat around the area

The place didn't feel that big. They do have a pool table and a couple of cute places to sit and have an intimate conversation. They have a parklet and a couple of tables right in front. People were nice but you can tell this place makes strong drinks, they were all pretty tipsy. They do have food, but it's very minimal, and yes it was again just the bartender having to deal with everything. They had small bar items, a small little kitchen, with an oven to make pizzas. They have a great drink menu, the specials are on the board. I had their basil daiquiri and let me tell you! Yum!! It was perfect, had great flavor. Just the right amount of sweetness, made with love. Whenever someone thinks of daiquiri, they think of a mixed, slushy, drink with whip cream.. this is an original daiquiri This place was reasonably priced, about 10 bucks a drink! Crazy for the city.. been paying $18-$20 for a cocktail! My favorite part was the Buddha! You have to come in and immediately rub his belly!

I finally made a comeback over this last weekend when I went with a group of friends after dinner nearby at China Live. I saw a whole new side to the bar. Previously, I didn't realize that they have a basement section, which in my opinion is worth checking out and way better than staying on the first floor. My group headed downstairs as soon as we entered and lined up to buy drinks. I ordered one of their infamous mai tai's, the same drink that pushed me over the edge a couple years ago. It was just as sweet as I remembered, but since I'd just eaten, I didn't feel jittery or like it was too much at all. There's just something about being served a cold cocktail in a paper cup. I have no complaints. It was filled to the brim with the frothy drink. I hope using disposable cups makes the staff's cleanup faster and easier. While the one at Li Po was on the sweeter side, the one here was a lot stronger. I watched the bartender as he made the drink and I could tell the percentage of alcohol in the glass was way higher. I knew it would be potent and it definitely tasted so. This bar serves "Lucky Buddha" which is essentially beer in a unique Buddha bottle. It was founded by Anton "Tony" Nikitovich and quickly became a gathering place for the neighborhood's Italian and Croatian communities, where people came to swap stories, argue politics, and enjoy a stiff drink after a long day. And honestly, that tradition carried on well into the years when many of us became regulars. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently, when I decided to stop in again. The bar wasn't overly busy, but a handful of neighborhood folks were sitting at the counter, trading stories over their drinks. It felt instantly familiar. Not much has changed since the early 2000s when I used to come here regularly, and that's exactly what makes Tony Nik's special. Step inside, and it still feels like a mid-century film set: tufted leather seating, a long wooden bar that's seen nearly a century of San Francisco history, and that iconic neon sign glowing outside. While much of the city has reinvented itself again and again, Tony Nik's somehow held onto its soul. It's a grown-up bar without being stuffy, no loud club music, no trendy gimmicks, just well-made cocktails, a classic jukebox, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than manufactured. The bar stayed in the Nikitovich family for decades, and the current owners were wise enough to preserve both the name and the vintage character Tony originally created. It's one of those rare places that reminds you what North Beach used to be, and, thankfully, still is.
