Massage Therapist: Oriel Straker. This review is long overdue... I've had 3 massages from Oriel and I must say she is the bomb. I had a car accident a while back and I need to make this a more regular visit but with my crazy schedule it can be very difficult. This last massage I waited abit longer than I should have and I was extremely tight in my shoulder area. I was glad that I booked an hour, for she was able to take her time and work my entire body out, which was alot more off it's mark than just the shoulders. It is something that I now know I have to do more often to avoid the tightness that often occurs. So I will be making this a routine. I highly recommend her to anyone, She is calm and listens when I say stop, which when you are knotted is extremely important. Sleeping that night was better and i felt well rested the next. Ok so, now I have figure how to get back every two weeks instead of every month or so.... CJ. read more

Marisel was fantastic. I scheduled a 90 min deep tissue massage last minute on a Wednesday afternoon because I hurt my neck in yoga this morning and the simple act of putting my hair in a pony tail had me in tears. Marisel listened me explain my pain, and adjusted her treatment accordingly. She worked on my neck first for a long time, and talked to me as she was doing it, reminding me to breathe and talking to me about what was going on. I felt comfortable enough to respond to and deal with the pain of the massage in my own way - she didn't make me feel weird about wincing or making noise (it was a deep tissue massage, which is often painful). After a while, she worked on the rest of my body while a heating pad warmed my neck up, and then returned to it. She coached me through moving my neck more than I thought I could, and gave me advice on how to deal with it in the coming days. I still have pain because this is a bigger problem than one massage could possibly fix, but she worked wonders and did as much as she had time to do. I would definitely return to Massage America for a massage with Marisel, and I would recommend it to anyone. My entire body feels so much better, and my neck is much improved. She definitely exceeded my expectations. read more

Helpful, very friendly and knowledgeable, nice place and a good massage! What's not to like?

I had a groupon for a 90 minute massage and booked online with Joshua Curry. He was fantastic. Professional and very good. He gave me a custom massage - deep tissue where needed and relaxation as well. The place is in an historic building but the actual office and therapy rooms are nice with lovely music and lighting. I would definitely go back and have recommended Massage America and Joshua to my friends and colleagues. Fantastic therapeutic massage! read more

Amanda gave me my Living Social deep tissue massage today and she was delightful both as a person and excellent as a massage therapist. I felt she really cared about helping me - asked a lot of questions before we started and paid attention to the areas I had mentioned. I recommend her. read more

I had a 60 minute Swedish massage done by Tanya at The Manhattan Athletic Center. It was one of the best massages I have ever had. I call myself a "Massage Junkie" since I get massages every where and I still have to give Tanya 5 stars. She was very attentive, professional and worked the entire time. After reading many reviews I was nervous about my experience as a Groupon customer, but Tanya did not make me feel less important than her other clients. The massage was so good that I regret not purchasing a 90 minute session. If you are looking for a SPA experience, this is not the place for you, but if you want an amazing massage then Tanya is the way to go. read more

Really impressed with Andrew at Massage America. Very intense massage. Have already made an appointment to go back. I get the sense they genuinely care about rehabilitation and longterm body support, and not just a one-time "feel good" experience. read more

As a massage therapist with 20+ years of practice, I recognize and appreciate true talent and ability in other practitioners. Today I had the good fortune to receive the excellent work of Kaori Yagi. I booked a 90 minute Sports Massage to address a persistent problem I have with hip, knee and calf. I showed her and told her what was going on and she was able to zero in on my area, apply specific techniques to it, and give me great relief from my low level constant pain. I walked out of the session feeling very uplifted, relieved, and nourished - in body, mind and soul. I recommend Kaori's work to those who are seeking to correct and solve problems--especially those who look to massage consistently for enhanced well being. Kaori's instinct and knowledge of structure and function will serve your body's health. read more

An oasis above Union Square! Luis provided one of the best massages I've ever had, and I've had many at five-star resorts. Highly recommend Luis and this well-priced establishment. read more

MPower is amazing! I had been going there for about a year and they solved my lower back pain. Then I got pregnant and started going to Sarah--she is specifically experienced in prenatal massage and is the sweetest person. She knows how to position me safely and comfortably. I always feel so relaxed and pampered afterward, and I think it is very healthy for the baby. I plan to continue to see her as often as once a week for the rest of my pregnancy! read more

Pablo worked magic on my very sore lower back. I was able to get an appointment the same day, and they were even running a special where you get a second massage free. I booked it on the spot and can't wait to go back. Amazing place for a professional and very effective deep tissue massage. read more

This place does not have any kind of a business/storefront. Rather, it's a random door at the end of a hallway on the third or fourth floor of some random building in Union Square. As I walked in, it was unclear what I was supposed to do/where I was supposed to go. In other words, nobody was there to greet me. Instead, I got kind of an awkward look from this man who ended up being the proprietor or something like that. The masseuse was kind of terrible. She asked me about any injuries/surgeries I had in the past. I told her that I had joint stabilization surgery on my right shoulder about a year ago. She completely ignored this information upon massaging me and was putting my arm in very unstable positions not to mention she was pushing about as hard as she could on my scapula. I recoiled as my shoulder was subluxating. She didn't stop. On top of all of this, she did nothing to warm my muscles up. She just started jamming on me. I was sore for at least a week. Lastly, this play is impossible to get in contact with. I have called them three times and keep getting their voicemail. Unfortunately I got two groupons for this place so I have to book my other massage. I still haven't heard from them and it has been over a week since I last called them. I don't understand why this place has such good reviews. It's probably because of all the groupon deals. Cheap does not = good massage. read more

as the other reviews say, this is not the most "spa-like" experience you will have. for a special event or a gift, you would do better looking elsewhere. but for a simple, straightforward massage experience -- that is to say, if you are sore and are looking to feel better -- this place does fine. i went to the right floor (yay! figured out to avoid that mistake by reading the reviews), but did so via the wrong elevator, so i needed to go back down and up the other side. then there was the walk down the desolate, kind of industrial looking hallway. but once i was in the office, the atmosphere was plain but clean and peaceful. i didn't have to wait at all -- my masseur, jeromy riggs, came out and met me right away. the massage room was very plain, perfectly clean, and of reasonable size. we discussed where i wanted the massge to focus (i am a martial arts practitioner, and have bad shoulders), and then jeromy left so i could get ready. after i got out of my clothes and arranged myself under the sheet, he came back and began working. jeromy is not the most technically skilled masseur i have ever had, but he does seem to have training. his work is simple. he focused on the parts that i requested, and he used a strong pressure, as i requested, checking in with me every so often to make sure it was ok. the best thing about his work is that he has a feel for where exactly the knots are, and a feel for what is working -- he starts with a particular stroke, and if it seems to be loosening things, he pursues it; if not, he moves on. basically, he is not a super educated massage therapist, but he has what counts most -- good, smart hands. he also has a very pleasant personality -- neither chatty nor impersonal, just the right amount of communication. it was a good experience. i'll go again. read more

Came here with a Groupon for a one hour Swedish massage and I saw Chrystie. Like other reviewers have said, this is not a luxurious salon/day spa but the space is nice and cozy. You can hear through the walls, but not loud enough to where it bothered me. Aside from the difficulty making an appointment because this place is booked a couple months out, everything else was great! Everyone I encountered was very friendly and Chrystie did a phenomenal job. I get massages on a monthly basis from my home salon and also do periodic Groupons and this massage was one of the best. Chrystie asked what I hoped to get out of it and if there were any areas in particular that she needed to focus on. I never once had to ask her to adjust the pressure and I left feeling great! Most places that say '60-minute' massage end up being a 50-minute massage with 10 minutes allotted to change, especially with a Groupon deal. Not the case here - Chrystie even went over by about 5 minutes so it was a full 65 minute massage. I'm glad I decided to purchase 2 Groupons because I will be happy to go back! read more

MA Union Sq. I had an appointment yesterday. First, let me tell you about me, I do have my own masseuse, who I love, but he is in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn and it takes me one hour each way to go and see him. Someone suggest to use Groupon so I could try different places without breaking the bank. I got the coupon and call MA. The receptionist was very nice but she told me that the masseuses I want, which I have seen their reviews on Yelp, did not take Groupon??? I made the appointment, anyway, with the person the girl suggest it. In addition it was a nice gesture that MA send me an email with precise instructions how to get there and find the place, it was a breeze. I was assigned to the new floor, which they are still working on, fresh paint, drilling the nine yards, I am not fussy so the noise and paint smell did not bother me but I can see it will to some other people. I arrived early as I usually do and nobody was there, I walk to the back and found Gregory owner/manager, very nice person, excellent customer service skills. Among other things, he told me that they do use the newer masseuses for Groupon but the older ones are excellent. Well, that does not help me because I am looking for a good masseuse and the only way to make a decision is having them work on me but I decided to give it a try. The girl who did my massage was very nice and sweet, very professional and a decent masseuse. BUT I was not impress, it did not please my fancy. Would I go back to MA? I don't know. It's all I can say. Nice place, great location, excellent people. read more

Massage America is the best thing to ever happen to me. I have severe back and shoulder pain and it really affects my ability to function. I found Massage America on Groupon a long time ago and have never looked back since. Marisel is my favorite masseuse of all time. She is seriously a lifesaver and gives the BEST deep tissues and gets out all my knots and tense areas. Every single time I walk in with back and shoulder pain, I walk out completely relaxed and relieved. I've gotten deep tissues at all kinds of places, from Equinox to Massage Envy to random spas, and I can easily say that Marisel gives the best massages I have ever gotten. She is super super strong and listens to whatever you prefer (she's also awesome at Swedish massages too). I get a deep tissue at Massage America at least once a month, and every time I'm 150% satisfied and pleased! All the other therapists I've met are really nice and great as well. I've had Mandi as a masseuse too and she is also AMAZING! If you need a massage to get out your tough knots or just to relax you, Massage America is #1!!! read more

go to andrew for a deep tissue, especially if you need some trigger point work. he worked those suckers good, and i have many. he talks to you to let you know what he's doing, what the trigger point affects, and let's you know how you can do it yourself. and he's a nice guy. i hope that i'll be able to afford to go pretty regularly. will definitely go back soon! read more

I got the best deep tissue massage I have ever had from Alex Lippard. It made me realize I have had a lot of bad massages and I was excited to book another appointment with him a few weeks later. The day of my appointment I walked in to find out that my appointment had been re-assigned to a different therapist who gave me the typical massage you'd get at a spa... or from a significant other with no formal training. Needless to say, it was disappointing, particularly because I was not given the option to agree or not agree, when I made an appointment with a specific therapist. Fast forward a few weeks... I decide to try again after waking up feeling terribly achy. I made an appointment for the next day. When I woke up, I realized I was achy because I was getting sick and had to cancel, as I did learn that massage when you are sick is not recommended. I realized this meant I was going to have to pay a $75 cancellation fee, but didn't want to infect everyone and didn't want to end up feeling worse. When I saw I was charged $95 for cancelling, I just about spit. It's just insulting. This place will do everything to drain you of every penny they can, and the ridiculous policy where they can change the therapist at the last minute and make you pay while I get charged nearly $100 for cancelling. I am done with this place. I can guarantee you I will never go back here again. I will just google Alex once in a while and hope he opens his own shop. read more
