If you were like me and don't really enjoy eating snails, this is the place to eat them. There is an art to making these little guys delicious. My niece tried them for the first time and liked it so much she asked if she could have another. I love that they serve them outside of the shell. I also had the chicken with morel mushroom sauce. It was delightful and very appetizing. My husband had the raclette. The dish came out with a big plates of cheese, some sliced ham, and potatoes. The whole meal was neat because you grilled the cheese on a tabletop non stick pan designed for this meal. It really was a neat thing to watch. I also had some nibbles of the pate (terrine de campagne) - savory and melts in your mouth; and the goat cheese salad - I wish I ordered this for myself. The whole restaurant is small. The kitchen for the restaurant is even smaller. But the ambiance is great. You can see the chefs at work from your table. The tiny spiral staircase to the restroom adds charm to the whole experience. The people who work here are great. Super accommodating for our large party of 11. Completely patient with us and very friendly. Definitely recommend is place.

The restaurant is in an excellent location, offering an astonishing view of the mountain range. We really enjoyed getting to sit outside and take in these views with our meal! The atmosphere is also amazing and I loved the interior of the restaurant. It has a chic chalet style to it which provides for a lovely, slightly romantic ambiance. I thought the service was great as well. Our server spoke good English and was able to explain the menu to us. Food comes out freshly prepared in a timely manner too. I will say the prices are a little bit higher, but I think that is a reflection of the touristy nature of the area, along with Le Monchu's use of high quality ingredients and large portions. I ended up starting with the Sarti Spritz--which was excellent, a little pricey, but strong with good flavor. My friends ended up ordering the gazpacho and French onion soup and thoroughly enjoyed it! For our mains, we ended up splitting 2 fondues between the 4 of us. My one friend and I had to try the Wood-Fired Raclette cheese that was served with charcuterie and potatoes. This was a whole experience as the cheese is served with a wood-fired burner and you are meant to shave the melted cheese off to accompany the accoutrements. The cheese had a deeper, sharper flavor than traditional fondue, but was HEAVENLY. I have no complaints about this and was very happy with it overall--would recommend. My other two friends ordered the Savoyarde Traditionnelle Fondue which included garlic & white wine, accompanied by charcuterie and diced bread. This was more of your standard fondue served in a large melting pot. The flavors of this fondue were different from the Raclette, but also very good. The portion was huge and we struggled to finish it. Overall, Le Monchu was an excellent choice for lunch while visiting Chamonix. The atmosphere was everything, the service was great, and food was absolutely amazing! While the prices are definitely higher, it is definitely worth it. The food has so much flavor and the portions are very generous. I was extremely impressed with the overall experience and would highly recommend eating here for a memorable meal!

It has a locals vibe and is always packed at dinner time. The restaurant isn't fancy -- plenty of people in mountain casual attire; but the food is outstanding! We came here 2x on our trip, after a couple fabulous meals in Chamonix. Pricing isn't cheap-- we spent €100 for two both nights, with one shared appetizer, bottle of wine, and two entrees. That said the food was excellent. We had (over two nights): 1. Fondue with Mushrooms: a dream come true. We ordered one serving, for both of us to share, both nights. Creamy, warming, and dreamy. A must. 2. Lamb Tenderloins: gamey with bone in. My husband loved it. 3. Filet with mushrooms: reasonable portion in a delicious creamy mushroom sauce. Savory and filling. 4. Salmon entree: omg. This dish is amazing. Best salmon with anchovy butter. Ever. Licked the plate clean both nights. Tender, crispy, and flavorful. Absolutely dreamy.
