I read the reviews of Richard's Auto Service being an honest mechanic, so I took him my vehicle a few months after moving to the Goldsboro area. Those reviews were correct. Richard's Auto Service is honest, but also so much more. Richard's Auto Service also offers quality work at a customer-friendly price (less expensive than www.yourmaehcanic.com -- a mobile mechanic service). Richard's Auto service is not in a high-traffic area, but it isn't far either and for work you can trust, the drive is well worth it. I have found my mechanic.

I came to this shop based on good reviews, but my experience was extremely disappointing. I had…read morejust gotten my brakes, rotors, and calipers replaced elsewhere, but the issue with my car persisted. This shop insisted I needed the same repairs again, despite me telling them it had already been done a week prior. I trusted their recommendation and paid over $1,000, yet the problem remained. After returning, they claimed a new $200+ issue was the cause, and later said it was another $800 problem. At that point, I had paid for two diagnostics (they did do the third one for free) and still had no resolution. I felt dismissed and ignored when I expressed concerns, and the service felt more profit driven than customer focused. Honda later confirmed the original repair should have addressed the issue and that this shop should have made it right at no extra cost. I agree. I was left without a working car for months and felt completely let down. I considered legal action but chose not to pursue it. In short: poor service, lack of accountability, and unresolved issues. I would not recommend this shop

He's gotten an engine replaced from the same place. I still did my due diligence and researched, etc. Even though they were the most expensive, the motor they found was the one with the lowest mileage by a landslide. The other reason I chose them, was because the mechanic I originally spoke with, Chris West, was extremely personable, very knowledgeable, and took the time to answer and explain all questions I had. He seemed to really take pride in his work. I got off to a rocky start with the owner, Carter, but I feel like that was in part because of me. I only wanted to speak to Chris because we had already spoken and he knew my situation. Eventually, I did warm up to him, but Chris is still my favorite! (Sorry/not sorry lol) Almost brand new motor (50,000 miles - which is 100,000 less than the old one), new serpentine belt (which it needed, the old one was frayed), new water pump, oil filter and oil change, thermostat, air filter, radiator cap, torque mount, spark plugs, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, and transmission fluid. Also, as they were doing all this, it was discovered that I needed a new cv axle assembly. However, the guys finagled the numbers so that the final price wound up being only $6 more than the original quoted price (which had not included the cv axle assembly).

They checked it out immediately and it turns out it was a simple and quick fix, so they fixed it up and didn't even charge. I'm not too car savvy and I'm sure that comes off, so they could have told me just about anything and charged me for it and I would've believed it, so if that doesn't speak to honest business, I don't know what does. I appreciate their integrity and quick service and I will definitely be returning!

I needed a significant amount of work done on my car to get ready for a 560 mile trip. My local…read moreToyota dealership, where I had originally purchased the car, changed my oil and gave me a list of the work that they felt needed to be done immediately. Among this EXTENSIVE list, they told me that I needed new brake pads AND rotors for ALL 4 tires, and a brake fluid "flush". There were additional items as well. The quote was, in my humble opinion, astronomical, so I decided to go elsewhere for another quote. I was lucky enough to find McKee 3, Inc. This business will forever have my loyalty! I told them that I was going on a trip and wanted to make sure that my car was in good shape before leaving. I asked them to inspect my car and let me know what work needed to be done and give me a quote. They ended up telling me that I did need brake pads on all 4 tires, but that only 2 of the tires needed rotors. The gentleman also mentioned that the brake fluid flush was usually added to "pad" a person's bill. When I took the car in this time I had also asked for new wipers because I had been noticing that the wipers were leaving a streaky mess instead of actually removing the rain from my windshield. The wipers were not in my original estimate from Toyota, because I had forgotten to mention it when I brought my car in for its oil change. Despite this, my bill was 40% less than what was quoted at Toyota. My car rides like a dream now. The fact of the matter is that being a woman who doesn't know much about cars, I guess I am probably ripe pickings for being taken advantage of in the car repair business. They could have told me that my car desperately needed some random part that doesn't even exist, and I wouldn't have known the difference. The fact that they talked me out of doing unnecessary work says something important about this company. They were completely honorable and ethical with me. Even if my bill hadn't been as inexpensive as it was, I would still recommend this company wholeheartedly due to the honesty and integrity of their employees. I trust them completely, and therefore, will be bringing my cars to them first in the future.
