I was referred to Nicholas Walter at Moyes Sellers and Hendricks, by Grant Frazier who was not able to help me with my matter, but eager to give me a referral. Thanks, Grant! I had already paid for a 1.5 year-long battle to sue a car inspector who failed to find $42k worth of damages and lower market value on the car I bought from Scottsdale, and had shipped to my home in California. The law firm who represented me, took a simple, strong case, and somehow allowed the judgement to be vacated, based on a technicality that should have been rock-solid for us. This left me with tens of thousands of legal fees and nothing to show for it. My first mistake: Never sue someone unless the firm will take it on contingency: if they lose, you pay nothing. I paid for every minute they spent on my case. My goal in talking to Grant, or Nicholas was to help set my expectations: to figure out what I could possibly do next, and how much it was likely to cost. Expectations are EVERYTHING. By contrast, the law firm I was working with, fired me as a client, once I started asking questions about why I should keep paying to fight the case (when my legal fees already equaled the damages I was seeking), and what was it about our approach to how we served the defendant, had failed, when it is normally allowed, and how we would strategize in the future, if I continued to spend thousands. You know; a conversation you would expect to have with people who work FOR you, after 1.5 years and tens of thousands of $$. For instance, my law firm never explained that a simple motion for reconsideration could require an entire new hearing with several or more hours, plus a court appearance, costing $3000-5000 or more. They just kept pushing me asking me YES or NO, do you want to do it? I had no idea. Talking with Nicholas on my initial consultation, he was able to clearly answer my questions, listen to my issue, and help me figure out that asking a judge to reconsider is a time-consuming and difficult thing to achieve, while my law firm refused to set my expectations. Once I knew what it might cost, and I already knew I was not going to go to trail again for another year's worth of trouble and money, I knew that it was best to not spend any more money even looking into any less expensive alternatives-- even at Nicholas's firm, and he agreed. He handled me in such a humane, and understanding manner. A sharp, glaring contrast between the way I was handled by my law firm, especially when it came to begging their lead attorney try to explain how things had gone so south and being stonewalled. Now, If I ever have a situation that requires these type of services in Phoenix again, Moyes Sellers and Hendricks will be the first firm I call, and I will ask for Nicholas. read more
