I visited Moxy on Sunday, August 16, to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing--especially considering how much I spent.
Upon arrival, the bartender told me to sit anywhere. I had reserved a cabana for $250, but the cabana area and tables had not even been wiped down. I sat for approximately 20 minutes before a manager finally came over to greet me. I had to ask for a menu, and the manager told me that my server would be around shortly.
What I did not realize at the time was that the bartender was apparently also serving the cabanas. If the property was understaffed that day, I can understand staffing challenges, but guests paying for a full-service cabana should still receive the service being advertised.
After receiving the menu, I waited another 20-30 minutes without anyone coming to take my order. Eventually, I gave up waiting and walked to the bar myself to order water and an Old Fashioned. At some point, the bartender finally came to my cabana and took my food order, but after that, he essentially never checked on me again.
I wasn't even given an opportunity to order a second drink. The next time he came to my table, instead of asking whether I needed anything else or how everything was, he simply brought me the check. That was incredibly disappointing for what was supposed to be a full-service cabana experience.
I spent approximately $100 on appetizers, which unfortunately were not particularly impressive either. To make matters worse, my card was charged for the wrong tab, and the manager had to reverse the incorrect charge.
The property did not appear especially busy, which made the lack of service even more confusing. I also didn't receive what I would consider a warm or welcoming experience from the bartender. At times, he seemed tired, irritated, or simply uninterested in being there. I noticed him laughing, joking, and interacting much more warmly with some of the female clientele, which made the difference in how I was being treated even more noticeable.
There was also an intoxicated and belligerent guest splashing water into my cabana area. The manager eventually had to come over and wipe down my table because of it. Between that disruption and the lack of attentive service, I never had an opportunity to actually relax and enjoy the cabana I paid for.
What makes this particularly disappointing is that I have nearly half a million followers across my social media platforms, and part of my reason for visiting was to experience the property and potentially create content about it. My experience was so poor that I ultimately chose not to post anything because I genuinely did not have a positive experience to share.
Between the $250 cabana, approximately $100 in food, drinks, and the overall amount I spent to celebrate my birthday, I expected to at least feel welcomed and properly taken care of. Instead, I left feeling as though my patronage wasn't valued.
I have enjoyed the Moxy brand, which is why this experience was so disheartening. Unfortunately, based on the service I received at this particular location, I would not return. A birthday celebration that I was genuinely looking forward to became an experience I would rather forget. read more
