Had someone hit the front of my car, minor damage. The car was still driveable. I was looking for estimates, knowing that the driver that hit me did not have insurance in Columbus, go figure...my uninsured was going to take care of it.
First off, I will say that Mowerys did do the work and got me the car back in about 1 week and the work looks decent. My first interaction was them telling me that an estimate was useless unless my insurance adjuster was standing right there and not to bring them the car, unless I was ready to have them repair it. I was in a hurry and didn't fully understand the process. Mowery's quote was one of the highest. Prices were that of new OEM parts, but it said right on the quote that they were being sourced from local salvage yards. Estimate was 5k for what was a bumper cover, one headlamp assembly and a front grill.
Second, I asked them to quote a respray on my rear bumper that just had scratches on it from ordinary wear, but no damage, figuring maybe they could make it worth it since they were mixing up the paint anyway, they quoted 700ish for that, to which I said no thanks, they didn't seem willing to work with me at all on it.
After a couple days I was notified by my insurance that they now needed a new hood, the other one couldn't be saved. So another 1k, now a total of almost 6k.
What pissed me off about all this is they had items on the quote that they weren't even touching, things like blending the fender, AC Freon, and engine coolant was all priced on the quote. None of this stuff was in the damage area and none of it was even touched. They will argue that this is all standard practice and my insurance didn't seem to bat an eye either.
Time to pick up my car, Mowerys doesn't take personal checks, ok whatever, so then they want to charge 2% fee for me to use a debit card, I'm like wtf you guys just ripped off my insurance company and made out on the deal and now want to charge 2%. Mowerys has all these ridiculous fees on a sign in their waiting area, this should have been a clue to me. So because I didn't have a rental I was now having to make an extra stop at my bank, and pay another fee to get them a certified check.
Many places because of the nature of this business absorb the deductible to help people, but not Mowery's, they want every last penny. When I got my car back, the work looked fine, but you'd think they could at least have washed the car. There was so road construction tar on the corner of the car they'd worked on, I thought maybe they could take an extra 5 min and clean that off. Nope...
All in all like I said the work they did was alright, but of you are looking for any sort of customer service. or just the feeling that they care, than this isn't the place to take your car. read more
