I think this may well be my Friday morning ritual from here on in. A million thanks to yelp for…read morepointing this one out for me while I was in Lane Cove recently and hows this for awesome .. right up the road from where I was - SCORE !! This is a hole in the wall type place in every sense of that word - a few tables scatter the path outside. You don't come here for the view (unless carparks are your thing), you don't come here for the decor (hell there was barely anything up in the cafe that could be considered decor), you come here for the brew, your wakey juice, your morning thunder ... and when you get your fix, you back away slowly until your body next craves it. The staff here are a real treat. Genuine and friendly, it's obvious they have great pride in what they do - so refreshing to get a smile with that cup o joe. I had a punchy ristretto, a Kenyan single origin ... and it was beautiful. It had everything going for it ... a seriously strong clean aroma, a mild acidity enough to liven up your tastebuds onto a delightful plum taste and a body so silky I could just cry .. maybe I did, maybe i didnt.

Despite its location off the main plaza area the place is always full of locals after good coffee. The place is always busy with nice casual outdoor seating. The coffee is very good with your standard coffee orders as well as cold brew and cold milk coffee. Perfect for the warmer weather! They also offer a limited food menu mainly consisting of sandwiches and toasties. Great local gem!

If it survives my dissection and eating process it is a goodun' The top came off in one flakey piece. The pepper meat filling was mildly peppery and filled the case. That is the bit I eat first, then the casing and finally the top. Beautiful. The dining buddy's seconds was an American chilli beef. I got a bit of a lookin with that one and it was good too. We finished with an iced coffee and it was bloody good too. Disadvantages of the place is that you could find yourself sitting in a draughty walkway and finding a park is a challenge. It is definitely worth the effort to give it a try

(insert superhero theme) This place has a lot and i mean lots of varieties of cakes, pies, tarts etc. On one side you have the coffee area and mini cakes etc on the opposite end they have the cakes for birthdays and other special occasions. The seating area is along side the arcade and at the back of the store. They serve hot pies and sausage rolls as well as small quiches or family sized quiches for those quick dinner nights. Order and pay at the counter if you would like to dine in. They will hand you a table number and bring out your food/coffee. Can be a bit slow if there is queue waiting to be served but staff are friendly and helpful.

The baguettes have a Vietnamese flair with fillings of Vietnamese pork, lemongrass chicken or tofu and come jam-packed with salad, fresh chilli if you so desire and a soy and coriander dressing. I opted for the tofu filling and the combination of the pickled carrots and soy & coriander dressing resulted in one tasty mofo of a baguette. I also couldn't help myself and ordered a lemon meringue tart, which was absolutely divine. The meringue was crunchy on the outside and nice and pillowy on the inside and the pastry had just the right amount of crumble.

But, here I type, telling you of the rustic-looking cafe that caught my eye on Anzac Day morning when, my boyfriend's brother and I were in the area searching for eggs and milk. These guys could help us out in the milk department but the eggs not so much. That's okay, they're pouring Toby's estate and we took advantage by ordering a round of coffees. I'd suggest ordering a black coffee to make the most of the blend - the milk in the flat white hid too much of the coffee. These were takeaway and the service was efficient. The cake and pastry cabinet was stocked and looked terribly tempting plus I'm keen to try their Vietnamese baguettes. Next time!

Despite this we were still greeted warmly, were given a table and had amazing service. This place has some very fine food on offer at very reasonable prices. To give you some understanding our OVERALL bill almost matched the price of one pasta dish at a nearby restaurant. Sometimes you want a nice meal at a good price. The food came out quickly and hot. I don't normally comment on the smell of the meal but the French Onion Soup was absolutely captivating. Once this meal grabbed your attention you couldn't deprive yourself. The restaurant and its surrounds were dainty and relaxing, and with outdoor seating you're given the opportunity to really soak in the peace. Noise level is a minimal. Would love to come back here to try one (or several) of their pastries and a coffee.

On our arrival we were warmly welcomed and quickly attended to. We sat inside where it was warm, dry (raining out), and it smelt absolutely lovely. We were soon served Pumpkin soup with creme fresh and pancetta, which as full of flavour and great first course starter. This was followed by their duck foie gras that was very generous in size and looked and tasted amazing. Third course to follow was seared scallops on a bed of cauliflower puree. This was the dish of the night! It was plate-licking-worthy! Cooked to perfection. Next course, 4th on the list, was duck breast. Perfectly cooked, succulent and flavoursome. Lastly was the dessert and this was the only let down, primarily because it was a cold dish. Given the season is winter, it would have been nice to have a warm dessert. This could have been easily achieved had they heated through the bread and butter pudding and heated the creme anglaise. The dessert itself was large and tasted nice, but it just wasn't the perfect end to the four courses ahead of it. We ordered a lovely French bottle of wine and on settling the bill was served really lovely handmade petite fours - little chocolate and pistachio bites. Very nice. The wait staff were all lovely, attentive and French natives. In all, we thoroughly enjoy our dinner here and look forward to returning.
