Equipment are old , facilities are clean , convenient location for me . Staff are polite buy not very helpful.

Overall, my experience here has been excellent. Honestly, the biggest problem is a subset of other customers who disregard the guidelines in place to ensure everyone can succeed. Sigh. I go primarily for yoga three or four times a week. Teacher quality is high, the main studio is clean and pleasant. There are lots of time options from early morning to evening. It works! I have tried a few other classes, including antigravity, spin, and - the most fun - Belly Dancing. Such a whoot! I was at a dedicated yoga studio close to work, which I loved, but now, working at home, this location saves me on travel time, membership, and gives me options to try and do more things. There is a good booking app so you always know what classes are coming up, and availability, and if you wish it, paid options for one on one coaching. Hubs joined recently and is making great use of the gym equipment, and yoga. He's way more hardcore than I am. Lol read more

Had a great hot yoga class today. The studio was pack with people everywhere since it was the last class of the day. They usually have many more classes but today for some reason they all got cancelled. The last class available was for 12 to 1PM. The yoga instructor was amazing, I believe she needed to make ajustements because the space was really crowded. Perfect place to come and try. This is a gym location, but they offer so many class to choose from. I usually come for yoga or spinning. I love that they keep the studios very clean. They have all the equipment there available for you to use at no extra cost. That's a bonus! They have also a lot of different instructors, so you can always find the one for you. I dont mind switching it up, some really work on your breathing, others more on balance. Am sure you will find the right one for you. read more

Pretty good.. classes are included in monthly fee so thats good. A huge part of the gym is women only but they dont pay more for fees so if youre ok paying for women to have more than you then youre good. They took the stretching area out of a private area and placed it right in the middle of all the cardio machines.. not sure why they felt the need to do that but ive stopped stretching because if it. just not as comfortable. read more

Im writing this review on behalf of my 70 year old mom who has been a member here for years She has severe arthritis and uses a walker, the aqua classes help with her pain so much and even though this club is far from her she goes twice a week because it helps her arthritis My mom was denied entry yesterday 04/18/2022 because the classes starts at 4:30 and she was 1 MINUTE LATE!!! I understand there are rules and they have policies I understand all of that BUT 1 MINUTE!!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???? How dare you turn a 70 year old woman who's hard of hearing who doesn't speak English and is on a walker AWAY for being 1 minute late ??? it takes her 40 min to an hour to get to this gym and you refuse to open the door to the swimming pool because its now 4:31??? Isn't this elderly abuse? Not one single human being with a brain and empathy was there to think HEY I KNOW ITS 1 MINUTE LATE BUT LETS LET THIS WOMAN WITH A WALKER IN , its not like she was 10 min late!! You people at Movati should be ashamed of yourselves !! Shame on this establishment for having zero respect for its members and only care about money! read more

Main reason my wife and I chose this gym was for the playroom services they had. After a month of getting in routine and getting our kids excited for the playroom they announced within a month all locations will be closing the playrooms main reason "lack of use" meanwhile they're always full and fitting in the timeframe is the main issue - all of this to make room for "Pilates" icing on the cake machines are routinely broken for example the calf raise and leg extensions are currently broken and lateral raises machine is on its last leg. Goodlife at least has 24/7 so what it doesn't have a pool? read more

The gym is nice but be prepared, they told us we could put our memberships on hold if we needed when we signed up. When our family caught COVID, it took multiple attempts (calling and emailing), to get a response. If we wanted to spend more money, say for private training, we were treated like Gold and given so much attention. When we did get a response they said they can put them on hold for 1/3 of the price while we had COVID, so for my husband and me and our son, they were charging us over $70 a month while we had COVID. We asked them to reconsider - no response - as has been the trend. Our price to put our memberships on hold at Movati is higher than the total fees at other gyms, and another gym has never done this to me. And to be told we could pause the memberships when we signed up, was very misleading as it wasn't mentioned we would still have to pay. Other local businesses were so supportive and did not continue fees while we had COVID. I am not impressed. Premium prices for subpar service and response rate times (still no response - and this started while they were still open). read more

Don't go there if you want to swim lanes. Always teenagers standing in the middle of lanes on pool noddles.

The facility is super clean and there are so many machines you never ever have to wait to use anything. Group fitness classes are included in the price, so you can go to any class at any time. They have really good hours, while no longer 24hrs (effective soon, to be more earth friendly). Also there's a women's only pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and don't get me started on the showers. The showers have a door, a little changing area and then a curtain to separate that off so you can hang your things while you shower. I've been to many gyms and this is such an convenient aspect, I wonder why they don't all have them. I paid $99 for registration and then $24.95 bi-weekly for a year. With that I got a free gym bag and a $100 gift card for any service there. I think you can't pay too much for your health, and with this price while not ideal really does give you what you pay for. Especially since the gym is co-ed but there is an entire all-women's facility which is very comfortable. The staff are super friendly I highly recommend it. read more

Anyone thinking of joining Movati Athletic, pleeeeease carefully review the contracts. Review every...single...word, every clause. DO NOT sign anything on their screens for personal training sessions, you are signing a full binding contract that you cannot see and are not told you're doing so. They also proudly push the fact that they will freeze memberships for up to 12 weeks if you get the premium membership. They DO NOT freeze personal training sessions and to freeze a membership requires you to become a contract lawyer, a plethora of conversations with staff members who do nothing and a series of tension headaches. Problem One: I asked to freeze my premium membership allows you to freeze the membership for a maximum of 12 weeks per calendar year. So, due to health reasons I asked to freeze mine for medical reasons and provided a Drs note to them. I was told it just needed a mangers approval and wouldn't be a problem. I have the email. The following statement was taken from my premium gym membership contract: "C. For Select All Access Members Only: 1. Select All Access membership gives you the right to freeze your membership for a minimum of 2 consecutive weeks and a maximum of 12 consecutive weeks. In any calendar year, you may not freeze your member- ship (i) more than 12 weeks in total and/or (ii) more often than twice during that period." So, my premium membership is eventually frozen, great! But they now refuse to freeze personal training sessions. Problem Two: I also verbally agreed to and thought I signed for two sessions per week but am being charged for three. They have you sign on a small screen. You are signing a full binding contract that you cannot see at the time. Movati Athletic doesn't have a section to leave a review. Other locations to. I wonder why this is? Pretty sketchy Movati! Problem Three: My trainer and I were verbally assaulted buy a man who screamed profanity at us when we mentioned we had reserved a piece of equipment in the co-ed weight lifting area. My trainer left me in the gym area to report it to her manager but nothing was done. No one approached him. There was no resolution. Not so welcoming Movati. Not so welcoming, or a safe space. read more

I love Movati, but this club is not my usual stomping grounds. It has taken a while for me to adjust, but I have gotten more used to it and it has grown on me a bit. I really like the women's only area, and I like that the change rooms are clean and have designated spaces for vanity (complete with well lit mirrors and hair dryers). I do wish, however that the lockers were bigger, and that the lock situation was better- either built in locks, or locks that use your membership card like they have at other clubs. When I went, they didn't even have locks for rent or purchase, but I was told it was just a fluke that day. There are a variety of classes you can choose from, including some women's only options, which I appreciate, the facilities are certainly not lacking, and this is definitely one of the nicer fitness clubs in Ottawa. If you are looking to start a new gym membership, I would definitely recommend at least checking this place out. read more

Have been a member of this gym for over 1 year. The facility itself is nice. There is a lot of equipment to use and plenty of classes included in the membership. It's that time of year and the number of people entering the gym has doubled. This is of course out of Movati's control. However, the cleanliness of the gym is abysmal and a health code nightmare. Mould and mildew in the changerooms/showers, standing water in the sauna, etc. Gym hardly has hot water to use when taking a shower. "Feel Comfortable, Feel Healthy, Feel Welcome" is a load of bull. You're a billable to them and that's about it. I had a terrible experience with a personal trainer at this gym. He was dishonest and shady. Contacted the PT manager who didn't really provide any help except to say he was sorry about the "miscommunication". My advice would be to steer clear of this gym. Its certainly not worth the price. And if you fall prey to them signing you a membership, do yourself a favour and stay far away from the subpar personal training staff. read more

I joined this gym when they first opened and absolutely loved it. The change rooms were always clean, the classes were top notch and there was a great selection of machines - new, great variety and with built in tv's and fans! Add to that the steam room in the change room, pool table and smoothie bar in the reception area and it almost felt like going to the spa instead of the gym. Lately though, I've been losing that loving feeling. Over the past few months there consistently seems to be machines broken and the sparkly sheen has started to wear off. Granted, that will happen with any club once it's been open for awhile, but I feel with the Athletic Club they've grown too much, too fast. The 'waiting area' in the women's change room has been converted to allow for more lockers, there seems to be machines consistently broken in the cardio room, equipment holders in the group classroom broken and finding an empty locker can be tough. Time of day can certainly impact this, but I like to change my schedule up and find this to be the norm more often than not. Small gripe - the Zumba class no longer uses the laser show/black light set-up that is available (so cool!), and in group classes the music system is set-up away from where instructors teach, so they are often running from the front of the room to the side to control the music. Also the bathroom doors go all the way to the floor and you can never tell if they're occupied or not! Bottom line - depending on the deal they're offering, I would be tempted to see what is available elsewhere. There are only two locations in Ottawa, both in the east end, and the group class offerings are comparable elsewhere. It is great if you're looking for an aquatics class as they do have a good selection of classes for that! read more

I highly recommend this gym- it's got a spa feel to it and it's super clean. There are so many machines to choose from, you never have to wait for them. The cardio machines have their own tv screens and built in fans in some as well. If you like classes, you have a wide variety to choose from. They also have salt water pool! The staff are very friendly and professional and it's just not a gym where you feel intimidated. There are people of all ages and of various fitness levels. The change rooms are fantastic with great shower setup and above all very clean and fresh. Worth every penny! read more

The best thing about the Ottawa athletic club is their staff, especially Ashley, she's my favourite :) sometimes I bring my Mom's dumb ass dog Mikey by just to say hello and she's always so happy to see us both. read more

I have been with this club since they opened. It is close to me and women only pools and classes. But today I decided to quit because most women classes are overcrowded on weekdays after work or Fridays during the day and weekends. Cannot move freely to have a good workout or Zumba class. Well I have to work, the overcrowding getting worse and worse. read more

I am most definitely a Movati fan - I love that I have the choice between a womens only gym/studio/pool and a co-ed gym/studios/pool. I also LOVE hot yoga so these gyms really give me what I want from a gym. The place is always very very clean and the staff is always very friendly. I once had a teacher not show up for a class and they came in and apologized and gave us all free shakes which was a nice touch. The shakes are also really good - I highly recommend the cookies and cream one - it is delicious!! The price may seem expensive to some but I really think its worth it because I can go to a class anytime of day or just workout or use the pool. read more

Elite gym for sure, best in the city. The facility is top notch and very up to date. Yes it is a tad pricy but if you go to the gym on a regular basis then you will see that it is worth the price and more. Very clean, large , and classy in this gym. Very satisfied here. read more

This is a great gym, but their billing is deceiving. After agreeing verbally and on paper to pause my childcare contact for four months, they charged me anyway, costing an additional $200. The manager will not fulfill the agreement made with staff at the front desk. read more

Great gym and facilities, however customer service was terrible specifically by the manager. He was a total dick. This review was written for Kanata location. There doesn't seem to be a page for that. read more

So disappointed :(. I was so excited to join this gym! I'm new to Ottawa and was looking for a place to keep healthy that had great atmosphere, I had heard amazing things so I went in to ask about pricing, but really to just sign up..... I stood infront of this employee as he shuffled papers, refusing to acknowledge I was there for a few minutes, finally another employee came over to say hello. When I said I was look into a membership he referred me back to the stuck up, entitled pretty boy who was to "busy" to bother with a new membership. Infront of me, still refusing to acknowledge my presence, he explained to the other employee that he was swamped and has at least another 5min of work and couldn't possibly help me...... Really? He told the other employee to go find "so and so" to help me (still hasn't acknowledged that I'm standing right there). The employee obviously embarrassed at this point, mentions that thigh other person is on break...... The employee exasperated says well I'm too busy....... I said, not to worry...... Ridiculous.... Such a bad impression, so disappointing. I will not join and will share this story with everyone I meet. What a bad introduction to Ottawa, just plain rude. read more

I have been at this gym for 6 months and i absolutely love it. People that complain are not happy in life. love the classes and people. thanks Movati read more

Nice gym, nice equipment, not as clean as when it first opened. Privacy in locker rooms is a BIG issue as NO Cell Phone Policy is NOT enforced by staff. Have personally had insurance company surveillance done in locker/shower area. Complaints to mgmt to address cell phone abuse in Sauna (yes in the sauna) and locker room resulted in having my membership cancelled for asking them to enforce club policy but cell users were not removed. That along with showers and steam not working for weeks and months suggests they have your money and DONT CARE about your Privacy or experience. So much for Feel Comfortable, Feel Healthy Feel Welcome. Save your money. read more

I honestly cannot recommend this club and regret buying a membership ( I actually quit out of frustration ) simply due to bad management that put a new hi tech entry system that has major problems with many members cards making it very hard to enter the club. it's not just me and far too many members have problems with it and are frustrated. the club has basically refused to fix this problem. what god is any club if it takes you 20 swipes to get in or cannot get in sometimes read more

First off the place is huge! It just keeps going; it's like GoodLife fitness on steroids. Now I'm glad I came here on a day pass with a friend because it would be completely overwhelming to go alone. I have yet to speak to a membership advisor or anybody who works here because everyone is just too busy, and that alone is enough to keep me from signing up. The facilities look clean and spacious with enough to equipment for everyone. For every space they have in use, there is a woman's only one to compliment it, that's definitely a plus. It's a family friendly facility, be prepared for small children around your workout space. There is a smoothie bar, unfortunately this is nothing spectacular. I paid $6.50 for a smoothie, It's water, protein powder and soy, I could've mixed at home myself. Overall it just seems like a water hole for your typical meat heads. I do see myself coming back, I'm just uneasy about it. read more

Gym aint bad... plenty of machines free at all times. Staff is alright. The usual collection of boneheads in the free weight area fawning over each other and themselves while grunting with every lift. They have a daycare as well which is great for parents. You should look around for other deals though.. this place isnt one of the cheapest out there thats for sure, not by a long shot. Passes are same price for women and men yet there is a huge women only section so if youre ok paying for women to be more privileged that you go nuts. Usually when I pay the same I expect the same. When I get less I expect to pay less. Why this is ok is beyond me. read more

Don't get attached! The management at Movati, at least at the first levels, is cold and callous. The building is attractive but it's a shell. Always, it's the people who make all the difference. This week, Movati Ottawa fired its finest instructor "without cause", without warning, and without any consideration for members' response. Over years, Carolina had built a wonderful community that made staying fit easy, social and fun. The response we all got to our request to please reconsider their decision was "we have many other fine instructors." Really? I am cancelling my membership after 4 years. Who wants to belong to a gym that treats people, members and instructors, like we are disposable. read more

Funny how other reviews with similar negative comments are not up top in the reviews. Nice gym but things dont get fixed. Its true the steam room is still broken and it has been close to 4 months in and out of service. The broken shower did get fixed after 3 months but most of the doors are busted. Staff are nice but dont care if you report a problem or somthing not workimg. Website does not work on mobile phones and screen in lobby does not work either. This is the re-launched site. Who runs this place? Some call center off shore? Not worth the cos of membership at least not at this location. read more

I like the gym and the facilities but cannot say I am overly impressed with the frontline staff. They seem more concerned conversing with each other than greeting and helping the gym members. read more

Movati used to be great but the maintenance lately has gone downhill. Simple things that convinced me to join are never maintained- like the hairdryers. Seems like a small deal but I have had to go earlier and earlier to ensure that I get a hairdryer due to the line ups in the morning. You need 7 to keep the place running and now you are lucky if there are 4 that work effectively. The treadmills are not maintained so you can watch people jump from one to the other to find one where the tv actually works. Maybe when they get back to providing the service they did when they first opened the negative chatter in the change room about what has not been maintained will change. read more

The three of us got a week pass to try this gym. We went to different classes and were debating to cancel our current membership with another gym and join the Movati Athletic. We tried AntiGravity Pilates (E) and the instructor in the class was so rude with us that it became a very uncomfortable experience. As a result, it made us to change our mind and not to consider Movati any longer. read more

Great place, love it. I just don't like the fact that they close so early on Saturday and Sunday. I believe the gym is a place where you should be able to go 24\7. read more

Great equipment, pools, classes, trainers, friendly staff, clean facility. Parking is often very tight. Been a member since the doors opened. Enforcement of club rules and policies are lacking. Cell phone use of any kind in the locker rooms is prohibited but is totally out of control and no one is ever around to enforce the rules. If things break, expect the repairs to take weeks. The crowd has changed significantly since the gym opened. Many new young members have no regard for other members, feel rules and policies don't apply to them. When you pay almost $1,000 per year for a membership, one would expect a GREAT experience all the time. The Athletic Club at Train Yards is attracting a large number of "riff raff" members who wear wife beater undershirts, their shorts worn gangster style mid thigh with their underwear hanging out. Modesty dress code is good in writing, but not enforced by any staff member. Locker rooms are crowded, often no lockers are available. High volume of new members takes up staffs time, and existing members experience is of low priority. The Ottawa Athletic Club (OAC) on Lancaster treated clients in this way and many left because of it for the new The Athletic Club. Perhaps its time to experience the old OAC again where they don't want or allow riff raff members. The slide in customer experience is very apparent and perhaps management should consider some customer focus groups before it gets too bad. Just ask Ian Shabinski of the OAC how many customers he has lost from poor customer service. read more
