I called 4 months in advance and they were almost booked up. Thankfully we got one of the final rooms. With that said, it was maybe not the most glam or spacious room, but it definitely won with views. We were one of the (I think only 2) rooms on the sixth floor with a view of the lake and Waterton Peace park. Mind you, the elevator stops at the fourth floor and is run by an actual human operator (which stops running at 10 PM). The room was a full size bed...that will humble you and your spouse when you've been sleeping in a King for many years. LOL. However, thankfully, they have these amazing bellmen that carry your items up from the 4th to the 6th. Our bellman was Blake. He's been there for several years. He was amazing and truly seemed to love his job. He said he was more than happy to go get us ice (FROM THE FIRST FLOOR) or anything else we need. I joked with him that clearly, with this job he didn't have to hit the gym as much as the rest of his friends. Geez! Another staff interaction that was awesome was Amy from the front desk. Just a doll of a human that was so happy to accommodate us and help us learn everything we needed to know about the hotel and made sure to help us learn who to reach for certain things. A lovely human that has clearly had amazing life experience...said she had "the opportunity to come work here"...who says that about a job?! But seriously, all the people we encountered seemed to really love and be incredibly grateful for their opportunities to work here and serve the public and teach about this historic property. The last and most amazing individual was our server, Maya. We dined late in the Prince of Wales dining room. Maya was our server and gave us wonderful feedback on what was tasty and even a few stories on dishes! Like many other staffers, she's traveled extensively and had some great insights on things to see while in the area. She encouraged us to have the cheesecake for dessert and HOLY SMOKES it was stellar. Maya was warm and just made this experience an absolute delight. This hotel, the service and the food in the restaurant were all amazing. The views...absolutely killer! Now, I will list some of the things that you might need to keep in mind...if you have mobility issues, you need to book a room on floor 2-4. Also, remember they didn't design a room back then for you to have a sleep apnea machine and 14 things you need to plug in and charge. There was one plug in the main room and one plug in the bathroom. There is no air conditioning in the hotel, thus you'd better keep the curtains drawn once you've enjoyed your views during the heat of the afternoon. They thankfully have a fan in the room for those of us that "aren't from around there" and like air moving around. I'd say if you're going to be in the area, make the time to go check it out, it's definitely a once in a lifetime stay and worth the money. It has an amazing story and ALL of the staff love to tell you about it and about their experiences there. One note...if you don't like ghost stories, might not want to google some things about the hotel before you go. BOO! ;)

I heard the lodges fill up fast and are very expensive however. This historic hotel is quite incredible from the architecture to the settling right on the lake. It might be expensive but the time savings on being able to start hikes right from the hotel may be worth it. For people like us who did not stay overnight you can enjoy the hotel common areas and restaurants. However unfortunately no WiFi unless you are guests. And they need to install benches outside where you wait for the shuttle.

WiFi was very limited only in registration area and restaurant it still was very sketchy. No tv in room but this is pretty standard for the NP. There was a lovely porch area in front of the hotel. We sat out there quite a few times just enjoying the view. The setting is so lovely mountains around us. There is a campground available if you are into that. It was clearly Native-owned, which I was happy to support. However, the poor guy who took our order was the only one in the place. He was doing everything: stocking, cleaning, taking orders, cooking. We were there for nearly an hour when the other party's food came out. By this point, we had figured out that he was flying solo, so we were sort of hoping our food would come out at the same time. It didn't. We asked if ours had been started yet, and it hadn't. Seeing that we were staying 3 hours from the park, we had to leave to meet up with our family without having any lunch. This could easily have been avoided with a little communication from the get-go: "Hey, a large party just came in ahead of you. Just so you know, it's probably going to be an hour or more before you see any food." We would have left then and had time to get lunch before starting our drive back to Augusta. As it was, we paid for our 1 drink, made do with whatever snacks we had, and hit the road. Can't comment on the food and the guy was super nice, so I hate to leave a not-great review, but I can't imagine what would have happened if 2 or more of the parties from our boat ride had arrived at the same time we had. They manage all of these nice cabins on the hill overlooking St Mary. Cabins were very clean and had everything we needed. Terry gave us some history of the area and provided suggestions for places to eat and the best trails to hike. Throughout the 3 days we spent there, I had the pleasure of learning the rich history about Sally's father and family who essentially built St Mary when he worked as a ranger and started to acquire land in the 1920's. We highly recommend The Cottages at Glacier.

Camp, the tent camping was closed due to a grizzly bear coming into camp. Drive at least 50 minutes each way into the park. Or stay at the Swift Current Motor Inn and be in the park and right at several amazing trail heads. The room is small, but the bed is decent. Their is no AC, just open the window. People complain about the noise from neighbors, but you should be so exhausted from hiking nothing will wake you from your sleep. There at Swift Current Motor Inn there are options for rooms. We ultimately stayed at Pine Top. Cabins are available, a little larger, but no private bathroom. There is food options at Nell's. It works, but I never wanted to go back, but had to go back. There is also the market right there selling cold and bagged food. What did I learn today? I loved this place. I would go back in a heart beat. Don't hesitate to book a room here. Just do it way in advance.
