Love this place especially in the off season. Staff are nice and it's the perfect place to unwind after taking in Waterton Lake Park.

The water in the sink and shower was hot and plentiful and the beds provided a great night's sleep. The muffins, fruit pie, and coffee are excellent. The proprietor, Stacy, was simply wonderful and told many entertaining tales and provided great advice for our stay in Waterton. The views from the upstairs rooms of Waterton are great and everyone can enjoy the upstairs deck with striking views of the entire area. At night, the galaxy is easily visible and I was able to take some great pictures of it. It is just a very short walk to Cameron falls as well as nice beaches on Waterton Lake. Altogether, I cannot recommend this place high enough!

Every morning there was fresh muffins and tea/coffee for all before people head out for the day. Can be a little crowded in the morning in the lounge but only because everyone is there at the same time. Lovely wrap around porch to enjoy the afternoon sunshine and view. Really love that they have kept the lounge area like a home - makes it feel cozy and would be great if the weather was bad. Clean rooms, enough blankets, heater if it gets very cold, good advice on places to eat and hikes, plus a 10 minute stroll into town. It looks further away on a map but is literally around the corner. Word of advice with all the guests at hotels mainly there for hiking a lot of the restaurants in town close early around 9pm so bear that in mind when planning dinner out. Highly recommend this spot and would happily stay again - sad they are not open in winter as planning a snowshoeing trip for later in the year. Room Tip: Stayed #9 Cowboy Room - on-suite, spacious, outside entry on the ground floor. Only real noise is if you have kids running on the patio/deck upstairs and really only in the day.

Stayed in the Bear Mountain Motel for two nights in the middle of August for my anniversary trip…read more Everything else in Waterton was significantly more expensive (almost twice as much), so we booked this motel based mostly on price ($114/night including all tax). Happily, we ended up having quite a good stay. Room was bigger than expected, with room to walk around. Queen sized bed was a little bit hard for my liking. There was a desk and TV in the room. No mini fridge or anything like that. The bathroom was pretty small but not too cramped. Biggest downside was no AC, only a fan. Keep the blinds closed during the day and that will help a lot. We really liked how each room had a parking stall assigned right in front of their room. Super convenient! There is an ice machine and a BBQ for everyone to use. Also liked how there are two chairs outside of each room, and a few more chairs and rocking chairs at the front of the property. Staff were nice each time we dealt with them (check in and check out as well as when we had questions). Waterton is a tiny town, so every hotel is centrally located. If value is important to you, I highly recommend the Bear Mountain Motel.

We stayed two nights in Sept 2025: Large comfortable room, however the room's entry door (2nd…read morefloor) was directly above the parking area for tour buses that would bring in guests to the hotel. With that, we had several buses that ran their engine idling for 45-60mins each day (or several times a day). The fumes and noise were just below our room door, and that door did not have a good weather seal on the bottom nor the side. Thus, we had to place a pillow on the floor attempting to keep the fumes outside the room.

There were three of us; however our bathroom was set up for two sets of towels. I called the front desk to request additional towels. I said no rush as we were headed out on a boat ride of Waterton Lake and then dinner. That's like 4-5 hours. Came back to our room, and still no additional towels. Called the front desk again. This time the towels were quickly delivered. Our room had plenty of USB outlets. That's huge these days with tablets and smartphones. We had a somewhat view of the lake as there was construction blocking our view, not including a rainy evening we first arrived. The next day we were able to get a better glimpse of the lake. There's a nice paved walking trail along the lake. Great photo ops. You can also see the Prince of Wales Hotel which overlooks the lake from the trail. Overall a comfortable two night stay.

We had a 2 night stay in June. To check in you have to drive to the back of the hotel as there is…read moreno parking in the front of the hotel. We had a deluxe suite on the ground floor. The room itself is very nice. It is a suite with a separate sitting area with TV as you enter. You walk down a hallway past the washroom to the bedroom. There are TV's in fireplaces in both the sitting area and bedroom. The soap is provided by a plastic dispenser. For my husband this was not problem but my hands are much smaller and since the dispenser is a fairly hard plastic I could not squeeze hard enough to get the soap. I had to continuously ask for help to wash my hands. The room does not have a proper area in which to write or set up a computer. I think it is just poorly designed because there is room that could have been used to set up a desk. The air conditioning unit is extremely noisy. It is so loud that we ended up turning it off in the evening and opening the doors to get some cool air. This is not ideal when your room is on the ground floor. In the evening even when we turned off our air conditioner we could hear the air conditioner in the other unit. They do not have black out curtains so the room was too bright early in the morning. There are no laundry facilities. They suggested we take our laundry to another hotel in the Park. They are still working on renovations so although we had a deck there was no railing around the deck and consequently no chairs on the deck so we could sit outside. The hotel is in a great location and we were able to walk into town. I think that for over $300.00 a night it is not good value. The room is very nice but there are no amenities: no pool, no laundry facilities etc. The pricing is resort fee pricing for basic hotel services. The staff are very friendly and do their best to help.

Others complained about the noisy AC. It was a heat wave in Alberta when we were there and we were grateful to have AC at all-(US N park lodges don't have AC)-ours was powerful enough and much less noisy than some AC's we have encountered. We never got the TV to work but didn't care. Plenty of parking in the back nice and close to our room. It was a bit tricky to even find the parking until the front desk guy (Nick) helped us out. Nick was wonderful and helpful the entire stay. We were bummed that their Restaurant was closed but actually we found several others (the food in Waterton that week was fabulous). In my opinion, this hotel is ideally located. Easy to walk anywhere in less than 5 minutes (except Prince of Wales hotel up on a hill above town). Others may want to stay right on the lake but we appreciated being just a bit away from the crowds and having one suite we could all stay in comfortably . We all agreed with a prior reviewer that their "squeeze" shower soap/shampoo containers are a pain to use. The chairs/table on the front patio were nice in the morning and the inner courtyard nice in the evening. We would stay here again.

I had a room upstairs and it was a roomy space, but don't expect a TV. This was actually a happy surprise for me as I wanted to be outdoors and not cooped up in a room with a TV going. It's an older hotel, so the walls are not very soundproof. For the most part that was not an issue, but the room next door was filled with small kids who did not have a TV to distract them...so running and screaming ensued.

Please note if you expand the sofa bed - there isn't much room in the living room to hang out. Pros: - the mini kitchenette: It comes with a nice large fridge*, a stovetop + oven, a sink, microwave and there's utensils/plates/cups. There's also various appliance: toaster, coffee maker, water heater and they supply you with dishwashing detergent and a rack to dry the dishes. - location: walking distance to everything in town (but the town is pretty small so most places are walking distance with the exception of the visitor center/Prince of Wales hotel) - The daily housekeeping was great and they supplied enough toiletries/towels for all of us. The mehs: - the 1 bathroom: the only bathroom in the suite is inside a bedroom...which meant everyone had to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. I think the set up is better for a family, not a group of friends. The water pressure was very good and retained the heat very well. - Free wifi but very slow. - No AC but they do provide plenty of fans. The room got pretty stuffy even with the windows open until the middle of the night - then it became a freezer box. Apparently everything in Waterton gets booked up really soon so book early if you have a preference. We booked this place in January for a July stay and there were barely any availabilities left. Parking: street or they have a small lot. This lodge is located inside Waterton National Park - so there's a daily entrance fee each car has to pay (19.60 CAN each day). Just let them know at the entrance how many days you plan to stay and pay all at once. If you are staying over 4 nights, it may be cheaper to get the annual pass. *If you are coming from the U.S. side via Kalispell, MT: I recommend picking up all your supplies there at Costco/Walmart. Groceries/food inside Waterton is really pricey and your selection is limited. We picked up everything on the U.S. side, brought a freezer bag and drove it into Waterton. We got plenty of lunch meat, breakfast supplies and water so we saved money by stashing everything in the fridge there.
