Definitely not the best place to stay in the east Glacier Ntl Park area. Beds were uncomfortable. Dining room downstairs was noisy when were trying to relax after a day of hiking. Menu was limited so we ate in St Mary, MT. As far as general accomodation, we found the Thronson's Motel close by in Babb to be a better choice. read more

The rooms were so small I had to go outside to change my mind. It's an old joke and particularly apt in this case. If you think youth hostile then it might meet your expectations. In addition to the small rooms you get access to the shared shower, toilet, and sink rooms. There are two of each, also small, located in the center of the hall. The hot water was limited and when present was difficult to adjust. Expect showers to be cold or scalding. And whatever you do, don't get stuck with room #6. That's the one that shares a wall with both toilet rooms had there's no telling what sensory experiences you might enjoy at any hour of the day or night. The furnishings in the rooms and common areas were... shoddy. The beds were uncomfortable with well-used spring mattresses. Any noise from the kitchen and bar areas below carried and things didn't get quiet enough to sleep until everything was closed down. And I suggest you avoid sitting on the sofas in the lobby. It only took me a few minutes to discover there were already lots of little things already living there. Food service is erratic. We didn't try any of it and from what I saw it didn't look awful. The good news is you're just down the road, around the corner, and down the road from the Cattle Baron Supper Club. We had dinner there one night and it was the best steak dinner I've had in a long time. We were chatting with a bellman at the Many Glacier Hotel (which is another spot to get a great meal). He mentioned there were lots of places outside the park besides his hotel that provided better value. When we told him where we were staying he replied without skipping a beat, "that's not one of them." The park is beautiful and we will be back. We ate here because it was close to our cabin. Several menu items were unavailable so we both ordered the whitefish. I think the cook had to start up the kitchen since we were the only ones there. Fish tasted and smelled of old grease. Food came in styrofoam and utensils were little plastic ones. Our waitress was nice though. read more

What a find! The restaurant here is great and an excellent value. We were visiting Glacier National Park at the end of May and it was still very cold. Parts of the park were still closed and even the Many Glacier Lodge was closed. We were staying in St. Mary and asked where we could go for dinner since there seemed to be no restaurants open. They sent us to the Duck Lake Lodge. What a fun place. A real hunting lodge complete with a wood-burning stove and places for hunters to hang their cold, wet clothes after hunting. There are rooms upstairs, but we didn't stay here so I don't know how they are. The downstairs lobby/living room is comfortable and picturesque and is next to the dining room. The web site features their accommodations, but I think the real find is their restaurant, which uses locally grown ingredients whenever possible. The food was excellent. I had a wonderful trout with delicious sides and my husband had a delicious beef dish. They serve wine and cocktails and desserts looked good, but we didn't have room for any. People who come here seem to know each other and that adds to the ambience of the restaurant and the lodge. The conversations next to us included comparing the merits of bear dogs, not something you hear much in California! The staff was very welcoming. We liked the restaurant so much that the next morning we came back for breakfast and had yummy huckleberry flapjacks. Such a charming, warm, and relaxing get away! Super close to Glacier National Park, too. The hosts provided everything we needed and the bed was extremely comfortable. The homey feeling gives a great experience in the mountains and the view of the Milky Way from the front yard will never be forgotten. Stopped there to have dinner during a recent trip to Glacier Park - we wanted to see for ourselvves . . . Well, don't waste your ttime even looking for it. Mangy dogs roaming the grounds, Fraternity house feel and a limited menu (possibly due to the ongoing Pow Wow). We left without eating as my family were totally totally turned off by the man casually lounging Al Bundy style adjacent to the room of folding tables used as a dining room. read more

From what we could tell, Better than Chewing Bones and Leaning Tree. We were lucky to pull in here and were greeted with cold beers and a good attitude. I can't speak for the food or the rooms, but what do you expect? Here's what expect: Slow Internet. A happy dread-locked white Labrador to greet you on the short dirt road up to the Lodge. A couple of small grass camping spots on the side of the Log House amongst some junk. NASCAR on the television near the kitchen. Cafeteria style tables and chairs: Viva Americana. Amazing stars at night. Did I mention cold beers and good attitudes? Oh, and the entrance to an Epic National Park! Have fun! read more

Great for cheap tent camping! The lodge has good food if you don't want to eat campfire food and a bathroom with a shower (must buy tokens) for the tent campers which is more than I can say for most campsite around this area. Good location, close to Canada and Glacier NP for hiking and site seeing. Very hospitable people! read more

We were quite glad we found this place because it started raining on us out of the blue!! Is really a lodge, has lots of hunting trophies mounted everywhere and wild-looking but harmless enough dogs greet you at the front door. The dirt road leading to the lodge would probably fool folks whodon't know where to turn off or don't see the signs. The rooms themselves were cozy. However, there was absolutely no light in the room, just a teeny lamp by the door. Also, the heat couldn't be turned off or set through a thermostat and isn't very well regulated. It got pretty warm in the night and it was freezing in the morning! Except for a couple of rooms, the others share the showers and toilets, which given this fact, were very clean and always well stocked. read more

This review of this location has been long coming. The events I am listing happened last month, and I haven't gotten around to writing it until now. Long story short, the place was fantastic, comfortable, and accommodating. The owner and her boyfriend are the most beautiful people in the State of Montana and I cannot thank them enough. This was towards the end of the Spring, 2016, and I wanted to get to the Glacier National Park before the tourists began pouring in. I had a fantastic weekend planned for me and I was more than ready to spend my weekend in one of the most beautiful place in the States. Unfortunately, while I was en route I hit some rough roads and my car was wrecked (my transmission oil pan was punctured and my front left wheel was busted). I was a helpless traveler in the middle of the night with no where to go, so I began knocking on the doors of houses nearby, fanatic and nervous, hoping that anyone would answer my last-ditch effort to get help (I had no service here [tmobile]). With the blessing of the gods, an elderly Canadian who happened to be visiting the area happened to be awake, and he was more than willing to drive me to the nearest.... Town we can say?. In the part of Babb I was at, it was a strip of road with a few buildings on it, and there was only a single open building (it was mostly locals there and there was a very lively vibe). I went there at around 12pm, my car miles away, and waited, planning to leave to sleep on the road until the next day if I must. This is when I met the Duck Lake Lodge's owner's boyfriend. He saw that I had been distraught and offered to help me, and I can't thank him enough. He convinced his girlfriend (the owner of this place) to let me stay (this was around 2-3am in the morning) so that I wouldn't have to stay out in the freezing cold :). The next morning, Terry (the owner) got me in contact with a mechanic in the area and I things began looking up for me. I was able to get my car in working order (at least enough haha) and with the luck of all things good, I was able to get on my way. Yelp asked me to not get personal, but I can't help but to include this experience. God bless Terry and Max (her boyfriend), I cannot thank them enough. If I ever do visit this area, I will definitely visit this area and see them again, because without their kindness, I don't know what might have happened to me. Reasonably priced accommodations and good food. Good location and open all year round. Owner is very accommodating and the rooms are clean.

The lodge was no frills but a good value for the money compared to the other options in the area. It had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There's free wifi, but don't expect to be able to stream any movies. read more

Cozy, comfy and the best service! Beautiful surroundings, close to St Mary entrance to Glacier National Park. We stayed here the night before a backcountry hike into Red Eagle Lake. We stayed in the "family room"-6 beds/1 bath sleeps up to 8. Terri fixed us up with banana bread French toast and perfectly strong coffee early and made sure we had everything set for our hike. Terri and Max are hospitable hosts and the lodge is like A big family home, separated into 10 rooms (including ours) and 2 shared bathrooms upstairs. Perfect for hikers and hunters. If you are expecting a Starwood property, go there. This is rural Montana, next to the most protected National Park in the country. Enjoy! read more

This lodge was not what we were expecting. It was smelly because of the grill and we didn't realize that a bar was under the rooms and it was noisy. The community bathrooms were not appealing. However, the owner was very nice and accommodating. Also, the wifi doesn't work well and there are no working phones to use. This place is extremely expensive for the bad room. Know what you're getting in to. Our stay was in August 2017. I am used to "roughing it" and primitive camping. But Duck Lake Lodge at $130/night proclaims itself as "newly remodeled" and boasts "free wifi" for guests, and I kind of would expect both of those things. The downstairs lobby looks nice; it also looks like the oldest part of the building. The new remodeling looks like something the BoyScouts would've done for a badge. I feel bad being harsh about it, but if you're going to advertise it as newly remodeled...it should feel more professional. And then there's the Wi-Fi...more on that later. PROS: * Convenient location * Owners genuinely seem like lovely people * Niceties like zucchini bread for a continental breakfast if it's a day the restaurant isn't open * Another guest said one can request food for an additional cost. We didn't, but it seems like a nice almost room-service option. CONS: * WIFI - The Wi-Fi is indeed free, but the majority of apps and websites are BLOCKED. No, I'm not on vacation to sit around on my phone, but the owners had to go well out of their way to block most internet content. If I want to stay in touch with friends and family via twitter, facebook, instagram, BLOCKED. Or when I tried to check in on my home via my home security system's app? BLOCKED. Some websites like CNN.com work, kind of, but very VERY slowly. Note that it would almost be understandable if it were explained, but nothing we saw said the internet was censored/blocked, let alone why. This is 2017, right? * Shared showers and bathrooms - I'm glad I wasn't in the room next to the bathrooms! Thin walls. * Shower had loose fittings, a low shower head, grubby caulking and a cheap plastic insert feel. * The building was kept uncomfortably warm. I'm not sure why. We used the tiny, loud window fan both nights. It was sweltering in the evening, but the nights cool off so much it was cold by morning. * One of the slats underneath my bed was broken, but it didn't really seem like a big deal. Just mentioning it. * The mattresses are pretty thin; you can really feel the springs. Definitely falls under "no-frills" THINGS TO NOTE (not good or bad): * The "lodge" is the upper floor of a bar/restaurant/diner, which is obviously the older establishment. I've seen other reviews saying it can get really raucous there, but for the two nights we stayed - a Saturday and Sunday - they didn't even appear to be open. Inquire with the owners if that might be a dealbreaker. They do boast a "margarita monday" so... * Long rough gravel road, which is absolutely normal and common in Montana - just be really slow if you're in a rental car - don't want to get dinged for damages. * The rooms are small, but who cares? It's not a fancy chalet. Just know that they're pretty tight. Our double twin bed room was maybe 10'x10'. * Cattle have free reign to wander the property. Again, this is normal in Montana. Just watch out when you're on the road. I don't want to call it a bait-and-switch thing because I don't think the owners are nefariously trying to trick people. I just don't think you'll get what you expect when you hear "newly remodeled!!" with two exclamation points on their website and "free wifi" which would tend to indicate that it would work uncensored. The price of around ~$120 depending on various seasons is VERY steep and "justified" only by the lack of alternatives in the area. The National Park hotels that charge double that. That said, I would have thought they could've actually professionally finished the remodeling for how much they charge. Lovely hosts - less than exemplary lodging for the price. And, like....WHY block so much of the internet? Is it a censorship thing? Or a not-knowing-how-to-set-up-wifi thing? I can't imagine they could block the world's most popular apps by accident. And there's no explanation for it. read more

We were lucky to get a room, with some late planning. However, for the price, which I know the area is pricey because of the park, I feel you are not getting your money's worth. I can only speak to the little room in the very back. It has its own entrance on the ground level, which is nice. It has its own bathroom, which is nice, bc most of the others share one. It was ~ 9'x12' room, wood paneling with no photos, one dingy little overhead light (which switches on across the room from the entrance, inconveniently), makeshift shelves and "closets". It has no a/c (which you don't really need here) and no heat, no phone, no TV, and one plain old double bed, with an old mattress (very uncomfortable), and a stand-up fan. You exit a door on the other side of the room, walk through an old storage area with refrigerators and linens, cement floor, to get to your bathroom. I could hear staff occasionally entering to gather things, as I used the bathroom or slept in the morning. Weird. You have to leave the bathroom light on at night, in case you need to use the restroom, because it's a soulless abyss, otherwise. The bathroom is very tiny with no electric sockets, a very small stand-up shower, old rugs, and the light, again, is across the room by your very own original door with a window painted over with a lovely UPS brown paint and a curtain covering. No breakfast, but the tiny "cafe" is available with a small menu. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. Expensive food for little. The staff was nice. No alcohol was being served the week we were there, but I don't really care about alcohol, so no worries. The Wi-fi was pretty weak, back in our room, making it unusable for anything other than Yelp. I'm not a high maintenance girl, so I was fine. I just felt it was too expensive for a room like that. I feel a solid $40/night would be too much. A hunter looking for a place to crash and shower for a night would be satisfied. Otherwise, no. I read other reviews c/o people lounging about in the den area. This is true. It's very laid back and extremely casual/informal in all ways. Charge us $30 for the night, and I would have been fine. But $140? Hard no. Not for a makeshift room. It actually seems they took an old storage room, pantry, and cleared it out and stuffed a "bed" in there. read more

I wish there was a category for 0 stars! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Notice that all of the reviews are older? I'm not sure what has changed, but we were treated extremely poorly by the owners and employees. While we were on a motorcycle trip a fire broke out in Glacier National Park and they closed Going to the Sun Road. This road was one of the main reasons we were coming to the area. I made 5 phone calls starting 5 days before we were to arrive trying to find out what the situation was and cancel if need be. They never responded to a single call. We finally had to scramble and change our plans to somewhere else. We based our decision on the National Park Service web site which said the road was closed and they didn't want people in the area. This, combined with the fact that 2 of our group has asthma, made it impossible to be there. I finally reached one of the owners on the day after our reservation and they were charging me full price on my credit card. Booking dot com couldn't get anywhere with them either because they have a "strict cancelation policy". It seems to me that in extraordinary circumstances they could make an exception, but all I got was a very rude answer that I should have came anyway so it's my fault. I would have been willing to negotiate a reduced fee or a credit for a different time, but they just wanted the money. I don't think these people are from Montana because they sure don't act like it. Their business seems to be failing by what I can find out - and they will never figure out why. read more

I don't know where or how to begin, so I will just begin. The beds - the mattresses were so overused and needed to really be thrown away a long time ago that I think it would have been better to sleep on the gravel outside of this lodge. As you lay down, your body feels as if it sinks into an abyss (as result of complete loss of firmness due to overuse), and with that wires in it give you a nice caress (being sarcastic). One bed's wooden frame was wobbly, and when I inspected it, I saw that two bolts holding it together were loose. Nice to fall through as you are dreaming of that emerald lake you just saw in Glacier. I did not fall through but it could have happened. Cleanliness - or I should say lack thereof, there was a dirty sock under one of the beds when I just moved in. Bathrooms - now I am not one of those high maintenance women that needs an imperial bathroom with golden toilets. As you know "the lavatory" facilities in this lodge are shared. There is one room for the sink, one for the shower, and one with a toilet. The room with a toilet had no lock. You read correctly, no lock. I was doing my business on the toilet, and a man opened the door unknowingly of course. Nice. Also, there was one day when there was no hot water. So either you take a freezing shower and you might have to since you are all sweaty from a long hike, or you go to bed sweaty. You want more? I have more. Noise - the TV in the common area is really loud, and always on, until like 11ish. Also they have this fan in the kitchen which makes this noise that just gets to you, and I could hear it in my room even with the windows closed. So to conclude, do not stay here if you could help it, I did just because I have a vice of planning things last minute, and this place was all that was available unfortunately for me, but hopefully not for you. read more
