I've yet to meet a person not dedicated fully to all of the kids at Union. It is a wonderful community to be a part of. Volunteering or finding a way to have a presence is important to being active here. The partnership with Cascadia Tech has been an amazing opportunity so far as well. There are a plethora of clubs, activities and sports to add on to the many academic opportunities. It was the best choice we ever made, moving so our kids could go here. GO TITANS!!

Being Montessori based, the school focuses on the whole child, which after years of attending public schools has allowed my boys to again love learning. The teachers pay close attention to what makes my children "tick" and the space to make their own discoveries. First impressions of this school,…read more I'm a student writing this at rooted, this is their first year as an open school for freshmen, so far the teachers have been amazing and open to identity, sexual orientation, mental health, and more. I've been attending Rooted for about a month 1/2, and the education and student directed time is very helpful. I've always struggled in school and the teachers have not failed to help my education grow. Currently, the school consists of about 2 classrooms that are used as there are about 25 of us. There is also a commons room, then next to the commons is a office for a break room if a student is feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just needs a break there are tools to help. There's also a therapy dog, he's in training but his name is potato. He really helps with anxiousness. The school is working on students already for next year, I'm gonna come back in 6-7 months and I'll update everyone on if my opinion stands, there's more to add but for now this is good. Side note - my teenager is the author above. From my standpoint, as a parent, I feel this school is a blessing. My student feels seen here and the staff are inclusive and respectful. I regularly receive communication from them and because it is just a small freshman class, there is a feeling of closeness, like a tight knit community of leaders and teachers who are working tirelessly to see that our kids are getting the best education and support that they possibly can. I adore the ladies who work in the office, the director is welcoming and communicative, and the teachers all go by first names. There is so much more to tell but suffice it to say that at this point, I would recommend Rooted School to anyone who wants their child to succeed.

We moved to Portland from the Netherlands, where he did little or nothing, and I am so happy to see him enjoying school, making new friends (whom I all like when I meet them), attending the Iron Chef Wednesday lunches, and thinking about his future and what he really wants to do with his life. When we attended the parent/teacher conferences together in October, he received one compliment after another from his teachers. Already encouraged by Ms. Chapman, the Principal, who answered my emails personally, and the really nice staff at LHS, who helped with documents and requirements for the IB and regular high school attendance, I realized that in real terms LHS has meant so much more for us. It was the base from which we chose our home and has helped determine our location and views on Portland. We like, no make that love, weird!!! Thank you Lincoln and thank you Stumptown.

They have a counseling office for students who need help for struggles at home and school and it's super easy to get with them by picking up a counseling slip at the office and they will get with you Asap during class to talk about what your dealing with at home and/or school. school even has assembly's, One assembly that they do here is about kindness week where we learn more about kindness which encourages are school to be kind and be helpful to other's making a great community for the school! During the week after the assembly we receive a paper talking about acts of kindness we can check off for rewards such as ice cream, bracelets, Our name on the wall as thanks for being kind, and lastly have socials! This school goes by trimesters and we get socials every trimester! Each trimester lasts about 6 weeks.

As the new kid the other students were welcoming. She had no problem making friends. She's had no issues being bullied. Their staff takes all issues serious. They don't let situations build up before intervening. I've never felt I was being bothersome when requesting things or asking questions. My child feels emotionally supported when having a down day. She's not trying to stay home anymore. She's trying new sports to be part of the team. She's the courageous confident kid she was before the pandemic.
