CrossFit Burlington - Coach John

CrossFit Burlington

I moved to CrossFit Burlington from another gym, and I love it here. If you come check it out,…read moreyou'll find: - Personalized attention. Beau (who usually teaches the classes I've attended, though occasionally Jenny does) does a great job at rotating through the attendees to make sure everyone gets corrections, encouragement, praise, and check-ins throughout the class. He's an excellent multi-tasker: I've often been surprised and impressed by his sharp eye for watching people from across the gym. - Personal engagement. This is similar to personal attention, but really deserves its own point. Beau and Jenny are involved with their clients, friendly and engaging, but all the while maintaining appropriately professional distance. For example, when I was once the last person running back to finish up a WOD, Beau came outside to meet me halfway and run back with me. That he'd take the time to do so really impressed me. - Attention to safety. Beau has dedicated much of his life to learn how to train safely, and he passes that priority on to his clients. I have always felt safe in his classes, even when I'm slinging around hundreds of pounds of weight. - Highly varied workouts. Beau takes seriously the balance between bodyweight, metal weights, and agility. If you go more than once a week, you're pretty much guaranteed to work on all of strength, agility and skill. Routines change enough that you never get bored, but focus on common themes enough that you can mark your progress. - A good gym space. It's clean, well-cared for, and well-sized and -stocked for the current number of clients with room to expand. - A friendly, fun, open, encouraging community of members. "You're doing awesome!", "You're almost there!" and congratulatory fist-bumps are the norm. That is to say, I love CFB, and highly recommend it to anyone.

Ethos Athletics - TRX Room

Ethos Athletics

Ethos Athletics is a newer gym and fitness center in Burlington. It's located in the brick building…read moreacross from the City Market South End on Flynn Ave. The gym is a clean, no-frills gym, which is conducive for a focused workout. There isn't a weight room per se; you work with different instructors and trainers and use the weights, TRX, cables, punching bags, etc. available. There are numerous group fitness classes for all interests from times ranging as early as 7am to 7pm: TRX, TRX Strong, TRX Bootcamp, TRX Express, H.I.T.T., F.I.T., Strength and Conditioning, Total Body ABC (Arms, Butt, Core), Box Fit, HIITBox, CoreBox, Total Body Circuit Training, ETHOS Bootcamp, Yoga. There are also certified massage therapists on site that do various massage modalities and therapies, including the Grafton Technique, trigger-point therapy, Swedish, and cupping. I've taken several classes with Anna Bohen Judge. Anna Bohen Judge is a yoga, TRX fitness instructor, and personal trainer that is one of several instructors at Ethos. I've attended her TRX and yoga and even had some personal training from her. Anna is extremely patient and kind, offering help with form and making modifications for those with physical limitations. Her TRX class is pretty awesome, using Tabatas in H.I.T.T. format as part of the program. Her restorative yoga class takes away stress and any aches and pains. I also went to massage therapist Joy Snow for help with my chronic shoulder issue and arm. She not only worked out the issue, but also explained to me why it may have happened and exercises to do in order to prevent it in the future. Ethos offers an excellent array of classes and services. There are several different membership offerings, plus punch cards that are highly reasonable. I highly recommend this gym for your fitness needs.
