Parking is very stressful to get to the facility. Our Granddaughter attended swim lessons and accidentally left a swim suit there, never found. Beginner swim lessons were less than expected. There was not much advancement from week 1to week 7. Instructor to attendee ratio was too many. For the money and stress of parking, I would not recommend. read more

Gets the job done but don't look too closely. The gym has all the equipment it needs. It would be great if the gym and locker rooms were cleaned regularly. The floors in the men's locker room are always filthy. read more

I visited the Y in BTV in person and signed up. I had done a bit of research about personal training and hoped to connect with a specific trainer. The two people at the front desk told me that I could choose. (I shared with them that this is the first time I'd ever considered joining a gym.) They said the trainer I had chosen would connect with me by email in a week or so. I paid for three sessions and a membership and awaited the email that never came. I reached out three times and finally someone got back to me. I responded to the email and it took a couple of weeks and another call from me to learn that you cannot choose your trainer, or maybe just this one... That took two months or more. I learned that trainer is highly sought after. Guess I just didn't fit the client profile or something. Anyway, I sort of lost my interest in joining a gym, widening my community, and getting some good fitness advice and support. I just gave up. A week after I canceled my membership I was talking to a women I know who is in her early 30's, I'm in my 50's. She told me that she just joined the Y and was there working out when a man approached her. She's lovely. After some conversation he told her he was a trainer at the Y and offered his services to her. Guess who that trainer was... Seems like he actually did have time. Do I ask for my $ back?? read more

You can't park in half of the spots in the parking lot because of the preschool pickup time that takes an hour from 7-8 and 4-5, which are the most busy times for the actual gym. Along with not being able to use the intended purpose of the building (the gym) you also can't use those spots outside the hors listed. If you go to the gym at 3, when you're pulling out at 4:30 you will still get an earful from the traffic guard. Why even have a huge gym in burlington if there's only 20 spots to use during the day? read more

Upsides: very nice facility, friendly vibes, good community programs (I don't use those but I like supporting an organization that offers them). Downsides: not as robust an assortment of strength training equipment as you'd find at the Edge, restrictive cell phone policy (says to not use your phone for anything besides music while working out - so no texting your partner when you'll be home, no using an app to log your lifts), sauna is nice but slick with sweat because few people use towels, very limited parking, always somewhat busy and INCREDIBLY crowded at peak times (be prepared for long waits for equipment around 5pm weekdays - the facility is very much over capacity at certain times). read more

Our family has been a member of the greater Burlington YMCA for a year. We enjoyed their indoor pool all winter, although I'll admit that getting a spot for "family swim" through their app is akin to the Hunger Games. I want to alert people considering the YMCA that they will not refund a partial month if you move away. I did not know this. Once we moved away and realized we wouldn't be needing our membership, we cancelled immediately. Unfortunately, it was a few days into the month and they said they would not pro-rate the month. We were happy to pay for the first few days of the month since we canceled a few days in, but it's wild to me that they are making us pay for the whole month when we won't be able to access the facility. That's a terrible policy. Please be warned that they do not care about the individual families they serve. read more

Brand new facility! Unfortunately, they've already outgrown it. It's very nice inside but it all feels cramped in. I love the indoor track, for example, but I feel like I have to run around it about 100 times to make a mile. The basketball court is mini is another example. I love that the daycare is in a separate part of the facility. The pool is much smaller than the previous location. The weight area is much nicer but it gets crowded fast and with covid swirling in makes me feel uneasy. Obviously, the place was not built with covid in mind and nor should it have been. The biggest plus is the nice space for yoga classes. I love instructor Bridget and I am a member largely to take classes with her. read more

The place is the best but before I say anything good here's what I have cons about; one time there was open rec in the gymnasium and when I was minding my own business doing a scrimmage with others we got shut down because apparently open rec for basketball got canceled without my acknowledgment and ruined my day. The basketballs definitely need an upgrade as most are flat or have no grip, sometimes theres not enough balls for everyone. And this one is more personal but when I play the hoops in the middle and not the sides are almost always not down and I can't use it. Now the good parts about this place is I love how modern it is, nothing is really wrong about it, when I go upstairs to the gym there's enough space to use equipment even if it's packed. There isnt much to say about the place when it comes to pros because it's kind of hard to explain the pros. Just when you experience it you'll understan. read more

I want to point out I love the YMCA it is what got me into basketball and I eventually played collegiate basketball. I have been a membership to numerous YMCA's around the country. BUT This YMCA is the worse one I have ever been apart of. A poorly managed establishment with rude and authoritative directors. The ever changing rules, horrendous parking, senseless mandates, and ridiculous price increases is why I will no longer be a member here at this YMCA. read more

I need to start off by saying this incident happened seven years ago, and I should have written this much sooner. But I think it's better late than never. I'll get to the point. I have PTSD and cannot tolerate loud sudden noises. There was a guy in the weight room, presumably on copious amounts of steroids, who was dropping his weights far louder than necessary. In a calm tone I said "can you please not drop the weights?" He immediately started walking towards me with an enraged look on his face, saying things that would probably be against the Yelp TOS to quote. As anyone with an IQ above 50 can probably figure out, getting in a fistfight in a weight room could very easily be deadly, so I rapidly exited the scene (while he continued insulting me). Here is why I gave it a one star: when I reported the incident, the manager refused to take action because, I quote, "he has been here a long time and you just joined." I immediately cancelled my membership, obviously, but he had the audacity to call me the next day and say that the offender had apologized, followed by the manager requesting for me to rejoin the club. FWIW there were at least five witnesses and I think there was a security cam, so it wouldn't have been my word vs. his. I don't know if that manager is still there but IMO this is the type of thing that there's no excuse for. read more

I love Y's and concept of YMCA's. Unfortunately our brand new community Y was too small before it ever opened and is now completely oversold. I've been working-out at gyms for the past 20 + years and have never felt so disappointed. For background, I only workout during peak hours because, well, because I have a day job. I get that this is the busy time and have always worked out during peak times. Here, expect a wait to get on to every machine. Expect for most people to not understand the concept of letting you work-in on a bench or machine while they rest. This would help with congestion. The men's locker room is a congested, and poorly designed mess. There seems to have been no design forethought in the amount of traffic in these spaces. Between people trying to put on their salty, muddy shoes in the narrow entrance way to the lockers (where boots and shoes are now left) to the ridiculously (and I mean ridiculously) cramped space called a locker room, it's nothing short of annoying after a workout. For a cold, northern city, the pool is a disappointing, cramped 4 lanes which cannot be accessed by anyone who has a day job since the swim team occupies ALL lanes EVERY weekday during peak hours. So much for doing laps. This is a beautiful, warm space with nice staff but would better serve a community HALF our size. I think the Y tried to be all things to all people but totally struck-out on logistics, size and number of memberships sold. read more

Anyone who has read my reviews knows i hate the Y but tolerate it due to its location convenience, but their parking guy and front desk associate have crossed a line. I was in the parking lot waiting and saw him yell at someone and tell them he's going to take away their membership for parking in an incorrect spot and then cursing in front of the children being picked up is not ok. When there is only 3 minutes left of preschool pickup and 8 open spots with a line of 5 cars waiting for a regular spot you should probably let PAYING members park. We shouldn't have to pay so much money for a membership if you are going to keep limiting parking more and more. There's a reason your losing so many members to Crunch fitness between the terrible ownership and management as well as parking. Moving to the front desk associate with reddish blonde hair, she is extremely rude. I was scanning in and witnessed a member asking about swim lessons and if she is able to get them for herself and after she asked her questions and walked away that associate turned to the other employees and started making fun of her not being able to swim and her appearance. Just doing that is extremely rude but also doing it in front of members is even worse. read more

I tried out this gym the other day. It was a decent gym, nothing beyond a basic gym. Everyone who worked there was incredibly nice and gave me a tour of the facility pointing out unique pieces of equipment. I did enjoy some bikes they had. They were regular exercise bikes only they had screens in front of you so you could ride by the ocean or through the woods. When going up hills, it definitely gets harder and you are able to shift gears. It was pretty fun and a great way to get a workout. They also had a new line of stationary weights - Strive. Each set of reps is at a different setting - each one focusing the bulk of the weight at a different point in the rep (beginning, middle, and end). They have lots of classes that come as part of the membership including: kickboxing, spinning, and belly dancing. The only downfall is that the place appeared a little dirty, which was somewhat of a turn off. However, I did enjoy my experience and will definitely visit again soon. read more

Horrible Parking for the amount you pay for a membership. There "parking enforcer" recently went on a power trip and started screaming and threatening me with a ticket and revoking my membership for trying to pull into a parking spot that was unlabeled and for everyone to use, he was mad I reversed 3 feet and claimed i was violating the "one way" and threatened legal action for me driving the wrong way on a private road that is not regulated by any sort of legitimate government. They also have half the parking spots reserved pretty much all day for pre school pick up yet about 90% of there customers do not use the pre school and pre school parents, not all of which are members use the member parking. They also hate any one who works out seriously and will tell you not to use certain weight and will harass you if you have any sort of equipment you carry with you (gym bags, straps, water bottles) and tell you that you are blocking handicapped people, when you are on a second floor gym with about two member who require a wheel chair, and they also come about once a month and have never complained about me. read more

If you are into weightlifting as I am, this is NOT the gym for you. Very limited selection of weights and weight machines. I couldn't get a complete workout. Definitely not worth the $12 day pass! read more

We just wanted to let you know that the people at the YMCA we so kind and respectful. We are in tough financial times and the use of the showers for our family was so kind. Sometimes it not just about the gym and activities but the people who meet the needs of some of the poorest in their communities. The YMCA is a safe loving environment and we are grateful to you and all the work that you do throughout the United States. Special thanks to Matt (a wonderful guy), Debbie & Avery. You are all appreciated by our family. Peace & Love to all of you & Yours. read more

Lots of options for price. Classes, cardio, free weights and basketball. Really wish there were more cardio equipment in the Winooski location. Knowledgable staff. Very clean and organized. read more

For what they charge, the gym should be nicer. When I called, I was told to come in any time for a tour and a free session. When I showed up around 5:30, I was told, rudely, that this was their busiest time and no one could give me a tour. So, I asked that they direct me to the locker room and the cardio area. The women's locker room was disgusting: it smelled like pee. The cardio area reeked of sweat in a way that made me choke. This was definitely knocked off my list of potential gyms. Yikes. read more
