We stayed one nights for $101.03 per night, which was an above average price for the trip. SHE: It was freaking adorable. Terribly Charming, as is the whole town of Victor that we saw. Charming little town. Kind of a suburb of Cripple Creek. If you get tired of gambling, you go to Victor and gamble some more. We didn't have a chance to explore, but we did see the troll. HE: The troll was amazing. I loved her, and I love that she's kind of hidden. You have to go look for her. SHE: So, it's a historic Hotel from the gold mining days. It was probably elegant in its day. HE: I wouldn't call it elegant now, but it is charming. SHE: Vintage. Which meant the rooms were old AF. The room was small, but recently updated. It had a magic mirror. I'd never seen that before. You could tap on the big mirror over the sink, and it would change like the lighting and stuff, which I've seen before, but I hadn't seen it as a touch screen. It felt very out of place in this vintage hotel, even though they put vintage decorative frame around it, but I didn't care. HE: It also had a new ceiling fan light fixture, but we turned it on and the fan was on high speed, and I could not figure out how to change it or turn the fan off, so I just turned the light off and used the bedroom lamps instead. I probably could have fiddled with it more and figured it out, but it was late. SHE: We were tired. HE: I pushed a lot of buttons and it was blowing fan air all over the room. That's probably my biggest complaint. SHE: Well, no. My biggest complaint is that it's very noisy. You can hear people outside on the street. You could hear guests in other rooms. You could hear the television going in another room. You could hear the plumbing. Of all the rooms we stayed in, this was the noisiest simply because there was no soundproofing. SHE: Yeah, because it's old. Luckily, it's a quiet little town. Not much nightlife. HE: It wasn't run down. SHE: No, not at all. Vintage elevator. It looks vintage, but apparently it was recently put in. HE: They had a restaurant in the lobby that was open surprisingly late. SHE: It was open at least until 10, which is late for that tiny town. There was no front desk. HE: Yeah, we communicated solely through texting. But there was a lady at the restaurant that I think could have helped us if we had any real issues. But we didn't have any issues with the check-in. It gives a code to get in and all it works just fine. SHE: There was an extra blanket, and there was a cool bench thing at the foot the bed. There's no chairs. There's no room for chairs. All we had was to sit on was the bed, And this little bench at the end of the bed where we put our bags HE: There was a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. Also a hair dryer, but we didn't use it.

Forget sleeping even a minute after sunrise.... But hey- who wants to sleep or rest on a weekend getaway. TV took a a feat of mechanical engineering to get it work. Ridiculous. The shower head had a crack in it, which sprayed water all over the bathroom and made a reasonable shower unattainable. *sigh* There were potential good points, I like the location, but I also like Victor, I'll pay a little more and stay at the Ghost Lounge again. Now THAT was an amazing stay. Ummmm parking? On the street and not too far. It's historic and some of it is cute. The elevator was super adorable. Yeah, truthfully, I doubt I'll ever step foot in this place again. If the hosts are going to be supremely irritating, they should have a place worth visiting that shows they ACTUALLY care about the guest experience and has ANY indication of some kind of customer service.

There was still a stinky pizza box on the counter when I was looking for a cup of coffee and we had left to eat every single time so we had eaten by the time the breakfast was being started and the guy cooking (NOT THE REGULAR CHEF) wasn't even started by 9:30 and honestly looked hung over as heck. I do not feel I got a $300 experience at all. It felt like I went to a big house party and paid too much to be there. I could have had a better time at a private air BnB where I had to cook and clean myself. I am not exaggerating even a little this was a horrible experience for me and even if they offered me a free stay there another time I would absolutely decline to do so. The whole thing taught me that I am not a bed and breakfast type person unless breakfast is before 8am and the people running the place are WAY MORE TIDY; (at least having coffee made earlier than 8am); I didn't enjoy my stay the way I had hoped I would and it wasn't comfortable enough to lounge at for me. So, I am sorry I have to leave this review but it absolutely is not some place I would recommend now. It really was filthy in the main house. I wish I had been there when the regular staff was in charge. I had a better stay at the La Quinta in Pueblo on the way to Manitou and that isn't much so hand up I have to be honest and this was my real experience. They go above and beyond to make you happy. I've even called them on the day of, without a reservation on a summer weekend and they still somehow set aside a room for me. The only thing is they close up shop around 7pm, so if you check in late, give them a call first and they'll arrange to leave your key. So I guess I'm saying give these nice folks your money. It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.
