The rooms at this motel are clean and well equipped (good amenities) but the experience was ruined by a rude older manager/owner that lied to our face and then jacked up our price. We called a few hours before arriving and confirmed a $65 rate. When we arrived we said we'd called earlier and he said no, we had not. He'd been there all day and he didn't get a call. We informed him that, well, actually we did call. He then looked us in the face and said "there's no reason to lie". Unbelievable! This man thought it was okay to greet his guests by calling them liars. I didn't get fussy but casually pulled out my iPhone and showed him his number in my call list, explaining that I had called at 5.32 earlier today. He didn't seem to understand and insisted we hadn't called. He then said "I'll give you a room though," As if we were SO lucky to get to stay there. He gave us a double queen room for $70, more than what he had promised us a few hours earlier. Either this is a scam to jack up the prices a bit, or this owner is a hopelessly rude and stubborn man. Either way, I would not recommend anyone to stay here.

I took this during my stay at the Eagle Motel. It was morning. Foggy. Rainy. Chilly. Late April.

It was absolutely perfect for the 4 of us girls to have a girls weekend. We were greeted by I believe the owner (Larry) at the front door and he allowed us to check in early at no additional cost. Super nice gentleman. Made checking in smooth and quick. Each time we came and went he made sure our room was good and if we needed anything. At the end of the night he provided us some board games and dominoes for us to play in our room. Great service for sure! The room was super cute and made you feel at home. It was quite large with 3 queen beds, a couch, coffee table, small dining table, a desk, a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. It was quite the setup. My only complaint would be that the bathroom is super tiny, otherwise great room! I would highly suggest this place for someone staying in Manitou. Affordable, great service and easily walkable to downtown Manitou with all of the shops and restaurants.

Cramped room layout, tiny bathroom, broken ice machine, small and too quiet TV. NOT located near the Cog Railway, as the name would suggest. Poorly lit parking. Oh, and don't open the drapes, the view is of a boarded up building, a few feet from the window. Guy at the front desk was nice, but poorly trained, I wish him luck in finding a better gig.

The bathroom had mold, rotting wood, and a towel that was strung up as a curtain over the window. The bedroom smelled like urine, so we left the windows open while we slept, even though there were no screens on the windows. I'm baffled by reviews that say the coffee and breakfast was great, because the breakfast is just prepackaged pastries. The pool looked great but they do cover it up at 9 PM and you cannot swim after that time. Also, when we pulled in there was a guy working on his vehicle and parked in front of our door. My advice: look for a better place to stay.

Cons: - none of my communications through Booking.com were awnsered so I had to call and confirm I could bring my dog. - the window in the bathroom was broken (frame was apart and glass was just sitting there). I spoke to the gentleman at the desk about this after checking in and he said they were aware and have been unable to get a person out to replace it. Room 140. - only one room key - one out of the two queen beds had a terrible sag and was very uncomfortable. - terrible finishing skills on tile and trim work. Definitely not done by a professional or even someone knowledgeable. - no alarm clock or radio - freezer door broken so it froze all of our fridge goods. - no extra towels given for 4 guests Now all of the good stuff: - Clean!!! - comfortable pillows and 1/2 beds - good atmosphere - fridge/microwave - Wi-Fi and cable - huge tub - large pool, heated but still frigid. - plenty of outside seating - walking distance to shops and food

It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.
