I walked in with no expectations, had been feeling down on my luck and needed a place to disappear for a little while. This place ended up being the setting for a very eye-opening experience, and allowed me to relax and figure some things out. No frills, no extras, but what it lacked in "five-star amenities" it supplied in spades with good energy. The "regulars " are a bit of a family themselves and welcomed me right in. A baby was born in the hotel the first of my 4 nights there! As the news spread, you could tell that this was more than some transient shelter, as many other reviewers here hint at. These people totally humbled me with this, and many other examples of community and family, and I think that it's wrong to judge them negatively in these reviews like I have seen. Give them a chance, or don't, but don't make them out to be any less human than yourself. They may be the very reason your experience goes from ho-hum to memorable My room was clean, great views. I had a light out by the bed, but I didn't need it anyway. Extra towels were provided by housekeeping upon request. That's all you need to do--ask. Everything in Manitou was easily walking distance. I'll stay here again.

This is THE REVIEW of REVIEWS, so read on...My wife and I paid for a month up front to live in this dump. We should have paid for a month in a dumpster, compared to this hell hole. The housekeepers are sketchy, and tried numerous times to get into our room to steal stuff. We had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door the whole time, and while I was at work, the maintenance man tried theee times to get into our room while my wife was in the shower. Thank God the door was latched, too. Then, the manager took 50 dollars of mine and pocketed it, never giving us credit, and called my wife a drug addict!!! We complained about not having a clean room or linens, and not once did they come to clean or change our sheets. To top it all off, we found cockroaches in our room, and when we explained it to the manager, she told us we brought them in!!! We are the cleanest people ever, and we were very offended by the way we were treated there. In the end, the manager tried to get 200 dollars per day to stay there, and threatened to throw us out if we didn't pay. Then, the meth heads and trashy people are constantly roaming around. I wish I could give this place zero stars, because it needs to be condemned and shut down. The health department and BBB are definitely going to be hearing from us. DO NOT STAY HERE....save your money and dont give them a dime. They also keep your deposit, and wont give it back, so go down the road and pay for a room somewhere else.

Villa Motel at Manitou Springs

"There's a Small Hotel" - Frank Sinatra/Pal Joey (1957)…read more We used The Villa Motel as a stop overnight from Denver to Divide (destination: Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Sanctuary). I chose The Villa based on the reviews here, and the fair price. I didn't want to pay $300 a night just for a one-night stay in the other more fancier places around Manitou as we were just crashing for a night (approx $105 a night off-season). PARKING: plentiful free parking during mid-March. ROOMS: The Villa Motel completely honored my request when I booked online directly with them (cheaper direct also). I asked for a corner room on the 2nd floor so it wouldn't be so noisy, and it wasn't at all. No elevators, be aware of that. If you don't want to lug your stuff upstairs, ask for bottom floor room. The rooms very large, even larger than our room at the La Quinta Inn in Glenwood Springs. The bed was comfy and just right for firmness. Everything was clean except I found a hair in my bed and there was a rolled-up ball of black hair in the bathroom but I was not grossed out by that since everything else was clean. Sheets smelled fresh and clean. Bathroom had nice amenities like make up wipe remover, bar soap and lotion, which was a very nice touch. The water controls were opposite for the HOT and COLD water, making it very difficult to figure out which way to turn the handles and even when getting the temp right, it would shift from hot to cold to freezing. I had to get out of the water stream every few minutes as it would go from scalding hot to freezing cold, until you manipulated the handles again. The water also backed up in the tub when we showered. The microwave and the sitting area is a nice touch, and the fridge. I am glad they have a safe. The last two hotels we went to did not have one (La Quinta Glenwood Springs, Drury in Westminster) A/C and heater worked very well, and quiet too. SERVICE: very nice people for check-in and check-out. Be aware the office opens at 7 AM, so if you have to be somewhere before that, talk to the office ahead of time to arrange something. We had to be in the town of Divide for our Alpha Wolf tour by 0745 and that was about 32 minutes away, so there was little wiggle-room for getting lost, etc. OTHER PERKS: coffee and continental breakfast in the office with some fresh whole fruits, pastries. The entire town of Manitou Springs is less than a 10-minute walk from The Villa, just take a left out of the driveway and keep walking. Laundromat a few feet away although I did see some washing/drying machines at The Villa. We did not use the pool in snowy March (closed). Manitou Incline views directly across the motel. RETURN FACTOR: a 100% YES. We love The Villa Motel. I also loved Manitou Springs and want to return again in the future. Keep small businesses in business! We love family-owned places and want to see them succeed, so give this place a try!

The star attraction is the hot tub and pool, soooo nice after a long day in the car or the mountains. Family owned, and the staff is hand picked by the owner. One of the few hotels in the area that doesn't charge you for self parking. Check in was a breeze my only complaint was that the entire lobby stunk of cigarettes. The rooms are recently updated and very modern. My only complaint is the door to the room had about a solid 1" gap into the hallway which seemed both unsafe and let in a lot of the noise. The free breakfast is your typical toast, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and waffle makers. For the price I would definitely stay again and the women working the front desk were exceptionally kind.

Absolutely but would I want the negative things to be done differently when I decide to come back ? Absolutely. Overall I give it 4 stars and not 3 because most of the negative things I experienced were bearable (I'm 1 traveller, I don't complain) and easily fixed and plus I got a good night's sleep away from home/work and could relax. My absolute must have change before I come back is that for $240 for just 2 nights I wish the fridge would have been cleaned out beforehand.

My kids "wow! camping is so fun!" While this may be marketed as The Broadmoor's Wildnerness…read moreExperience it's far from camping. It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.
