Once again this elder, was treated with high levels of kindness. Sean has a knack of hiring kind and competent people. He advised me to change my tires, which were 15 years old. Always pleasant to be around. All the workers I talked to were extremely kind and are good listeners. Thanks Sean and his lovely workers for saving my life from a blow out! Another thing I noticed, as I was waiting, someone came to the shop with no appointment, about his engine light coming on. Most shops will move you along. Great shop if you can get in. Its the only one in town so they are kinda picky on what jobs they will do. If you end up getting seen they are usually spot on with their quotes. They have a variety of mechanics with different strengths. Which is great cause they can troubleshoot things. I appreciate the new owner not being a rip off. Many shops inflate the costs and nickel and dime you to death. Wont name the shop but its in Scotts Valley and theyre not honest at all. This shop is honest, fair, and good at running a shop. He might need more breaks from the shop as he seems to ALWAYS be there. But, he works hard and so do his mechanics. All very nice people. I appreciate a professional environment where I do not have to be harassed for an oil change or a smog check. read more

This shop attempted to fix my vehicles suspension twice, unsuccessfully. They misdiagnosed my vehicle twice, and I paid for repairs twice. Including paying hours of labor twice to have my suspension taken apart and yet the problems persisted. Turns out, I needed nearly the entire front suspension rebuilt, not just one part at a time! I took it to another shop that put the car up on the lift and showed me all of the worn bushings, and even found a broken control arm that could have broken off and caused a serious accident! Over $1,000 in repairs an hours of my time wasted for nothing! The new shop ordered me very affordable new control arms with preinstalled bushings, saving hours in labor costs. I paid less at the new shop to actually have my car FIXED than I paid MM for the two worthless repairs. Based on my experiences, I do not recommend this business. read more

The check engine light came on in my Subaru and Mt. Mechanic ran a quick OBD scan on it. Turned out to be an issue with the catalatic converter... they did not charge me for the test and said it would need to be addressed before the next smog test, but otherwise it was OK to drive & would not damage the engine. I needed a smog and oil change for an older (2006) Porsche. It takes unusual (&expensive) oil, so it's not on hand at most places except the dealership service centers. I had gotten a positive recommendation for MM from a good friend, so I called and made an appointment to bring in my car. It was a very easy process. I brought my car in, and the guys had it turned around the same day! I wasn't expecting it to be so quick. They were nice, transparent about expectations, and worked in safe conditions. They had their shop office set up with hand sanitizer and wore masks, etc. They will definitely be my go-to for all future services. read more

I had my daughter's Honda serviced at Mountain Mechanics while we were there on a trip from Canada in September 2022. They installed spark plugs for $300, about twice the price in B.C., and after refusing to install the plugs we'd bought at the parts store in Boulder Creek. This weekend, September 2023, my daughter's car had a full shutdown as she was about to head into the mountains into eastern Washington. Luckily she was close enough to friends to get a place to stay and deal with towing in daylight. The mechanic found the Mountain Mechanics spark plugs had been tightened incorrectly, causing extensive arcing, which caused extreme corrosion of the spark plugs and one of the ignition coils. It was so bad the mechanic who fixed it took pictures. $500 for new spark plugs, a coil and towing, and a ruined weekend. Could have been worse if not so close to Seattle. Poor work and dangerous. read more

Honest good mechanic! My 2006 sprinter van conversion broke down on Jamison Creek and I called them and they agreed to look at it right away! Extremely happy with the top notch repairs on my car. It had about 5 problems that were all fixed most excellently for an affordable cost. I really feel Sean and his team went above and beyond with the repairs they made. It runs alot better now after they corrected the several issues and the gas mileage has improved which is great. I had quotes for much higher costs with Subaru dealership and at wheel works where we take my wife's car. Took my minivan here thinking I needed a fuel pump replacement. Sean does the diagnostic and finds out it's a simple misfire and does the correct job for my vehicle. Not too many mechanics will do the significantly cheaper job but that's exactly what they did and had me back on the road no problems at all. I happen to be working on a house up Bear Creek road a bit and I needed to get a new axle on my Subaru. I just hopped in to see if the price was better than my mechanic in San Jose. There are only a few places I would go to for honest and reliable auto services and general maintenance. Mountain Mechanic in Boulder Creek is at the top of the list. I have a relatively new Honda HRV and every time I go to the dealership for an oil change they do a full auto inspection which I didn't even ask for and recommend at least $1000.00 or more worth of work. So every time I end up taking my car to Mountain and they do the work for a third or less of the cost of the dealership. But most of the time what the dealership recommends isn't even needed. That's why I trust Mountain Mechanic to give me the honest what I really need done and when I will need it done! read more
