I've crossed paths with many guide companies in my years behind the oars and it isn't always a pleasant experience. From the put in where the guides helped me move my 15' raft and gave me verbal beta on the notorious Dragons Tooth rapid to the actual rapid itself they were polite and helpful. We didn't see them for 2 days on the river until the scout for Dragons Tooth. Being just a single boat with two people I graciously accepted Aaron's offer to keep an eye on us through the scary rapid. Imagine my surprise as we emerged from the chaotic maelstrom to 6 guides working safety and 45 cheering clients. It was truly a surreal river experience. A big part of a great guide service is how they treat their customers and other boaters. If you want to be on the river with a self important grump, there are plenty of them out there. You can take the long route which requires a lot more walking near the train tracks or attempt the river crossing which could end with you swept miles downriver or drowned. At any moment they could let water out of the down to send a surge down the Sacramento River and send you off through rocks and rapids below the falls. The trains come through fast and around blind corners and the roar of the river masks the sound of the train. It is a dangerous hike and people have died there. I don't recommend it for day trippers or casual tourists. Advanced hiking skills required and extra attention to safety and strong swimmers only. Even in mid August the water is high and freezing and the river crossing is very slippery and dangerous. If you know what you are doing and manage the trek there and back you will have seen one of the areas smaller but pretty waterfalls. There is talk of building a trail with a pedestrian bridge to the falls so once that is done it will likely be overrun with day trippers. I recommend going now but be careful.

The location has potential, but our stay was highly disappointing…read more First and foremost, the checkout policy requires guests to wash all dishes prior to checking out. This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.

The wedding was hosted across the street at the golf course and my suggestion to the person who organizes both of these venues. I think you should offer golf cart transportation between the resort and the golf course. That would prevent a lot of people from taking the chance and driving that short distance while intoxicated. I noticed this first hand on several of our party goers. We had a beautiful cabin that was not on the lake, but close enough to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. I see a lot of reviews had a problem with cleanliness and honestly, we did walk in to a musty smelling cabin and dead, flying things all in the bathroom, but after doing a black light inspection of the mattress, I was reasonably assured that bedbugs would not be an issue. To me that's a big one. I highly recommend this location if you're planning a wedding at the golf course.

I waited until she was done with her previous customer and asked when Mt Shasta would be open. She must be lonely because she talked my ear off. She finally stopped talking long enough got me to ask about the waterfalls. I told her that I recalled driving to the south end of town and turning east. She kept asking obfuscating questions. Finally I opened a map. Looked south then east and found them myself. Fowler's. I clarified by asking if this is the place with three well developed parking lots. She said they're not developed. From my previous visit, I know that they are paved. Then she fretted because she had given one of these cheap paper $3 maps to the last guy and didn't ask for money. Not sure I'm pairing an accurate enough picture of her but she was weird and unhelpful. The center itself is a standard visitor's center with lots of commercial pamphlets.
