Had to create a yelp page, because of how many times I've been here personally! The fish are great, the playgrounds here are amazing, and it typically isn't busy! The fish bite and come out whatever time of day it is. We caught multiple fish in a thirty minute time span, even though it was around 2. They have catfish here and what we caught looked like a sunfish. Beware though, there are turtles and they will take your bait. Your bait doesn't have to be specific, we caught our fish with worms. They have multiple playgrounds for your children to play at when they get bored or if they just want to play in general. In my photos I did attach photos of the playgrounds so if you do want to enjoy the sun, you can see what they look like. They also have 3 different playgrounds. Ones on the main road, another is across a makeshift dam, and the last one is on a dirt road across the dam. Furthermore, excellent place to bring children and enjoy your day. It's a Sunday when i came, and was not busy towards the start of noon, but several families did arrive.

I've been loving the sunflower summer pass and have used it anytime we are out and about in…read moredifferent cities in Kansas. My sister just moved to the area and there was an hour of two that wasn't too hot so we decided to check out the zoo! A lot of the fences and gates make it hard to see the animals, so I think they could use some improvement in that area. My favorite was the tiger because we could see him so close up! The kids loved the zoo, and with kids under 5, we like small zoos that don't take all day. This one made the mark! A couple animals I wish they would add would be penguins and giraffes. There seemed to be a concession stand but that was closed the morning we went. There was a nice playground for the kids that we noticed as. There was a lot of adequate shade, which was nice. I would suggest having a stroller or a wagon because there is lots of walking and hills. Overall, for a smaller town Zoo it was great. We will be back sometime again when we visit my sister I am sure.

Hiking this good in Kansas? Who knew? I'm sorry it took me so long to get here but now that I've…read morevisited I shall return. I spent a marvelous couple of hours hiking the 6 mile trail here yesterday (the Godwin trail) that changes from meadow and dry/wet creek crossings to steep hills and finally the tops of the magnificent bluffs and hills that dominate the reserve. And what fine hiking it is. The trails are a bit wide for my tastes but they're covered with gravel and also serve as access for the research going on here. It's obvious there's a lot of it (research). I can adapt. This isn't Colorado and we're not at 6,000 feet. Take along one of the flyers from the parking lot as it describes a lot of things you'd otherwise miss along the trail and these items are clearly noted with small signs along the way. Be warned: if you're doing the long trail like I did and it's mid 80s you might want to take a bottle of water and some sun screen and a hat for sure (I did). The lack of shade and high winds that sometimes come (as did on my hike) will suck the moisture right out of you and you'll be glad you did. I'm really impressed with what's been built here. The Kanza tall grass prairie is one of nature's true wonders and the fact that Kansas State University has built this great trail (three at least) with a lot of information to soak up as you hike is a home run for this experienced hiker. One of the more unique hikes I've taken and worth the effort to get here. Access: entrance is clearly marked from the McDowell Creek highway guessing about 5-7 miles south south of the I-70 exit of the same name.

The hike is more of a nature walk and is about a 2 of 10 on difficulty. There are 2 very neat bridges near the beginning and the signs are well placed and give you the option of making this walk a distance of 2.5/4.4/6.0 depending on what path you decide to take! We opted for the 4.4 miles and loved it!

A great spot for me to walk around, stretch my legs and enjoy the oldest park in Lawrence, Kansas. Well-manicured grass, lots of old growth trees, paved pathways and a very pretty bandstand. Playgrounds, picnic areas and flower gardens abound. The wading pool was crowded today and I tried to take a picture without looking creepy.
