When my wife tried to schedule the 14 in-car sessions, Dr. Lewis, the owner, said we did not need to do that, but only sign her up for 7 sessions. We thought we did not understand the process, but as we took our daughter in, our experience was that there would be two student drivers in the school vehicle, and each would drive 30 minutes and observe 30 minutes. However, the school counted it as an hour of driving and an hour of observation for my daughter, and probably for the other student as well. We asked Dr. Lewis about it again and received an unconvincing explanation. We finished the school last week, and I expressed my concern to a different staff member, and his explanation was that "you get up to 14 hours." In the end, we expected to receive 14 hours in-car, but received at best 3 1/2 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction and 3 hours of observation. Everyone else is kept in their place. Diversity at Dallas Christian is performative at best. Minority students are rarely visible outside of athletic teams, and there is a pattern of recruitment that raises serious ethical questions. These students are valued for what they can do on the field or court--not who they are. And yes, there have been documented and disturbing instances where students of color have been called racial slurs, including the N-word, by both peers and staff. Consequences for these actions have been minimal, and accountability is nonexistent. The emotional toll is real. Kids who start off confident and engaged quickly become withdrawn, questioning their worth in an environment that measures value by status. The self-esteem damage lingers long after. Many of the glowing reviews online are not from impartial voices--they are parents on the board, major donors, or paid reviewers. Don't be misled by the marketing or manufactured praise. The reality inside is far different. Meanwhile, families who experience harm are pushed out quietly, without support, and without acknowledgment. Even staff members who happen to be minorities are part of the same exclusionary system--and they know it. There is no safe space here, only a well-oiled machine that rewards compliance and marginalizes difference. If your family doesn't "fit" their mold--racially, politically, or socially--you will be pushed out, one way or another. The environment is not just biased, it is hostile. We were repeatedly assured by the director/owners that they had the experience, resources, and tools to work with children like him. Those assurances are the reason we trusted them with our child. Instead of working with us when challenges arose, my son's mother was called twice in one week to pick him up early. The second time she arrived, she was told our son was being expelled because they "couldn't deal with him." She was never given anything in writing, offered a meeting, or given the opportunity to discuss a plan to help him succeed. She even offered to bring in an additional teacher to provide support for our son, but the daycare refused because they did not want an outside teacher in their facility. Rather than work together to find a solution, they chose to remove our son from their program. What is even more disturbing is how the owners treated my son's mother. They got in her face and spoke to her in an aggressive and confrontational manner in front of our son. No parent should be treated that way, especially in front of their child. The interaction was recorded. As parents, we expected compassion, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the children they care for. Instead, we were left feeling blindsided, disrespected, and heartbroken. If your child has special needs, I strongly encourage you to ask detailed questions about what support they actually provide and how they handle behavioral challenges before trusting them with your child.
