I was told I should have reviewed the huge book Medicare sends with my benefits and I would have seen that refractions are not paid for. Had I looked through those hundreds of pages I would not have understood anyway as I only recently learned the word. I have never needed these tests. Nor does anyone who does want a new prescription. Nobody even apologized. While the doctor and assistant were pleasant, the support staff (billing, those who work the desk and the phone) are the opposite. We seniors deserve more respect. One morning In 2017, I underwent cataract removal and lens replacement (all in the same morning) at GFEA's beautiful facility down at exit 16 off the Northway. My checkup the following day was without a hitch. Everyone was wonderful to me, patient and kind. I've never heard a cross or rude word at their office off Bay Road in Queensbury. I've had to work closely with their billing representative, who has a great sense of humor as well as having expertise concerning various Medicare rules. While I am waiting in the exam room for a technician to start the appointment, they leave all those doors open and I've overheard conversations about other patients, about myself, and staff, and how awful their day is going or how rude or upset the people are they are dealing with!
