Short take away: Avoid René for piercings. Go to the other piecer if you can. Quality was good but the technician was rude. Full review: Mixed feelings about the piercing here. The individual who carried out the piercing, René, left a lot to be desired. She was unbelievably slow and overly controlling of the entire situation. We arrived early to complete paperwork and were sitting patiently for at least 15 minutes before our appointment time. Although she had completed the previous client before our appointment time, we waited another 15 minutes past our appointment time before she was ready to call us back. I had my partner with me who I wanted to bring for support. As we walked back to the room she said that she does not allow anyone else in the room and was very rude in her demeanor. Before we could even respond she said we could go somewhere else. Looking back now, I wish that we would've left instead of enabling her unkind behavior. I have had my ears pierced at multiple places and I've never been told that I couldn't bring someone with me. And just to clarify this was not a Covid policy but rather Renés rule. Before my partner even had the chance to go sit down, the front desk staff member had come over to try to defuse the situation. Although the front desk staff member was very nice, he must've been slightly confused as to what was going on because he expressed that René does not allow photos or videos taken, whereas the other individual who conducts piercings at mothers does allow photos and videos. My partner expressed to him that at no point did we plan on taking photos or videos. We never had a camera, at no point did we ever discuss taking photos or videos. I simply had my partner there for emotional support and nothing else. Although she did a good job on the piercing, I did not enjoy the process. She expressed several times that she had a lot of anxiety, which I respect and feel badly about, but when you're trying to calm anxious patience's who aren't exactly relaxed to have a needle shoved threw their ear, talking about your own anxiety is not beneficial. I had asked René not discuss blood or anything gross too much. Contrary to my request, she discussed blood vessels, capillaries, and the anatomy of the ear too much. We appreciate her knowledge but again, this is not beneficial when trying to calm anxious patients who specifically asked not to speak of this information. The front desk staff are nice and the the facility is very clean. Prices are average, although the earring are marked up quite a bit. If we ever come back to this location again I will make sure we have the other piercing artist. I cannot speak to the quality of the tattoo work here but I imagine it is a more enjoyable experience at the very least. read more

I was in town for a week, and a few of my friends had plans to get tattoos the following day of my arrival. Not having any other plans, I went with them to the shop, and after Brian had finished up two, I spontaneously decided to get one of my own. Brian took me in right away, and did an amazing job, meanwhile we got to watch Chu do this beautiful tattoo of a geisha on a girls back. The artist here are friendly and do great work. There are a lot of negative piercing reviews for the shop, so let me echo that as well. The Piercer didn't even check my piercing and put much too short of a bar into my navel piercing and after a month of having it in and being uncomfortable I took it out and realized it had absolutely torn up my belly button and it was bleeding. When I went to my scheduled appointment that the manager was supposed to be at, he wasn't there and I describe the situation to the piercer. She was really understanding and wanted to make it right but when she asked who I did it and I said "you" the tune changed. They called manager in and he immediately became unprofessional and disrespectful. He used his personal life as an excuse for being too busy for customers. He took everything personally and literally was not able to have a discussion professionally. I was told that there was "literally no way the piercer could make a mistake." Literally feels like a pretty strong word to me, but they wouldn't even know because they refused to look at my belly button. Honestly I could not even have a belly button and they would have no idea. BEWARE that they are NOT safe piercing certified by the association of professional piercers and it shows. I was very disappointed that I spent $50 on jewelry that a professional is supposed to make sure fits, yet doesn't. I gave them an opportunity to make it right but they refused and also wasted my time. Spend your money somewhere that actually cares about customers or can at the very least admit a mistake! read more

On a recent midwest road trip to see some different baseball stadiums, I ventured through Kentucky awaiting a Reds game to start. After being referred to the Covington side of the river by an old friend of mine, I went straight to Yelp to find a good tattoo shop to complete my "baseball logo" collection. The Reds "C" was what I was after, and thankfully when I walked in only an hour before the game, they had time. Brian, had booked himself a little extra time for some previous work that apparently hadn't taken as long as he thought. Instead of just using that time for a break, he gladly accommodated my request for the tiny tattoo that would soon adorn my neck area (I'm really covered and don't have much "fill-in space left"). The technicality of this tattoo isn't that special, but the placement was huge and the spacing meant a lot. Fortunately, Brian knew just what he was doing and had no problem resizing the tattoo to fit just perfectly in the small free space I had. If I ever found myself back in the Cincinnati/Covington area, I'd head straight into this tattoo shop and get inked again (assuming I had any space left). After an exhausting search I finally settled on a local shop. Mother's came highly recommended from a heavily inked friend. I stopped in only to find the artist I was looking for had moved to the West coast. I spent some time in the shop looking at portfolios and decided on of the artists was a good match. Matt (also known as Chu) was hard to book but reasonably priced and efficient in his work. His preference for an older style of tattoo's also lent rather well to my chosen designs. Both times I've had work done, it was finished very quickly and both of my tattoos look incredible. Matt worked with me to create designs that suited my chosen placement and really went out of his way making sure they fit properly and would lay correctly with my muscular structure. The shop has a small amount of merchandise for sale, some plugs, some stainless and a few promotional items. The art on the walls is primarily tribal and the shop is professional and welcoming. Call ahead of time to set an appointment. This isn't a shop you can walk into and demand immediate service, the artists make their own schedule but will often be able to work with you. read more

After getting my first tattoo in a friends basement, I had the itch to get another and decided to get it done professionally this time. I looked up places in the area, as I've only lived here for 6 months at the time. I came across mothers. First I went to the Erlanger shop and talked to the beautiful Meghan. I had pictures of what I wanted done and she told me she didn't feel comfortable enough to do a piece that complex, which i really respected and admired an artist being so honest, she referred me to Matt aka Chu... never Chewie... at the Covington shop, she even called him first to see if he was busy and had time for me and even gave me directions as I didn't know where anything was. Chu was very nice and priced me very well. I recommend Mothers highly, as it is the only place I will get any future tattoos. read more

His work spoke for itself and so I went in for a consultation with Matt, otherwise known as Chu, to figure out placement, size etc. His attention to detail is unparalleled, and here I am two years later having my entire leg tattooed by him and planning for more. Since this was my first tattoo, I was a little nervous, but she was very calming and professional and the piece turned out better than I could have imagined. I stopped by Mother's Tattoo & Piercing in Covington on Friday, 5/29 at around lunch time. I walked in, and waited for someone to acknowledge me. Once they did, I asked if it was possible to do a walk in for a piercing, or if they required appointments. Despite the abundant body jewelry in the case, and the name of the store being "Mother's Tattoo & Piercing," I was told they didn't do body piercing at that location. As I left, they were laughing. This was my second time getting a tattoo from Chris. To be honest I when up the street first to see if they would put a tattoo on the inside of my arm & the person that I talked to said that the tattoo that I wanted was to small. So they wouldn't do it. When I walk into Mothers & showed them what I wanted they said no problem. I wanted a dream catcher in remembrance of my Mom that just past in Feb. Chris did a great job! I give Mother's 2 stars for one main reason. I have had the displeasure of dealing with one of their artists. I will not mention his name. I dont believe in personally bad mouthing someone on a review. I went there to get a very large piece done. This particular person looked like he could care less about what I wanted. But reluctantly helped me out. He went out of his way to poke fun and try to embarrass me in front of my girlfriend and everyone else in the place. He demanded a 20 dollar deposit the first time I came in and then another 20 after the consultation. I missed the 1st day of tattooing because of my job. I didn't call. This was my fault. I came in the next day to try to explain why I missed the appointment. All the artist could do was insult me. Then demanded another 20 dollars to keep the appointment for a later date. I told him to keep the 40 dollars and I would go somewhere else. I dont know when tattoo artists decided they were rock stars. Being made to feel intimidated and ridiculed is not part of the pain in getting a tattoo. I only had one other tattoo (a tiny flower on my wrist) when I decided that I had to get a huge tree on my back for my 25th birthday. I went to Mother's because it was within walking distance of my apartment at the time. The staff at Mother's was incredibly helpful as I navigated the process of getting a large piece of body art. I came in with a drawing and they talked to me about where I wanted it and how I wanted it to look. Then they matched me up with an artist who fit the style of my drawing. Sanders was great too, he worked with me so the free fit the curve of my back and elongated the trunk. He was also super patient as I made noises and cursed at him throughout the 4 hour process. Mother's was totally cool with my friends coming with me and then they let my friends eat in the shop as I got my work done. I am not going to lie, getting a tattoo can be expensive and Mother's is no exception but I am of the mindset that if you are looking to put some ink on your body forever that looking for the cheapest place isn't the best idea. There was a day when tattoo artists were helpful , with artists that say things like,, sure no problem ,,come on back ,, I have recently come to the conclusion those days have long since past.. with popularity comes a proverbial pedestal some like to frequent So I walk into the shop at 6:30 in the evening . Three artists and what I would assume was a piercer not sure on that but 4 people total , "standing dead doing nothing " , mind u I just came from a shop who didn't even acknowledge I was there because they were busy WORKING, so in my mind this was my place So in staying true with there website they started off friendly and treating me like family , maybe in-laws that think you stupid and want you out of their hair Ok so they ask me what they can do for me , I let them know I have a small piece on the side of my hand that needs to b gone over , well one says where did u get it done like that matters , and tells me to go back to them,, haha ok strike one , then he asks me questions about warranty on it and other things that I fully understand .. my god I'm 34 and have been to several parlors , so all and all this guys no help at all , On to the next guy , he just blurts out "I don't do hands" yea and I don't tattoo that's y the sign on your shop says TATTOO , so streeerike 2 ,, then this friendly girl says let me take a look at it ,,prob out of pity,, and proceeds to tell me it will never take ,,,, well I have many friends with hand tats in the same spot and after a few passes they all look good ,,, but anyway I don't say that , I just say well I understand everything and want it gone over none the less , so she says well if I have any tubes clean I'll do it ,, knowing full well she didn't , gets up , looks , BIG SHOCKER no clean tubes , ,, so she tells me it'll take an Hr. To clean them and even though my tat would only take 10 minutes she needed to leave on time ,, and asks what's my schedule tomorrow haha yea , its daylight and I'm here now and I am the only client in the shop So the big picture is I'm in a tattoo parlor wanting a TATTOO ,this girl doesn't have the equipment to do it , , the two other guys are no help at all ,,, professional went out the window with this place ,,,, Now I deal cards at a casino and love my job and want everyone playing at my table to have a fun and entertaining stay ,, and when I start acting like these people at mothers ,,,,,, I believe it will be time to hang it up ,,,, Maybe I caught them on a bad day but I won't be back and I'm sure that's just fine with them read more
