This is a Motel 6 chain.
Accommodations & Amenities:
6 offers 1 king size bed or two full size beds in one room for stay. Checkout is 11AM. On the 1st floor, there's a room that triples as a snack vendor, laundry, and ice room. If you want to grab a late-night snack or get your clothes clean, bring $ for the machines. The ice is free, but the bucket is small as a plunger's container. All the rooms have cable TV and free WiFi. There are free toothbrushes and toothpaste, but you have to ask the front-desk for it. There's a handicap friendly pool, but not enclosed; you'll be subjected to outside elements. There's a small gym with vending machines. Inside the room, there's enough soap to last you 2-3 days before asking for a new bar. At right side of the front desk is a coffee machine, but no tea. There is no kettle nor beverage options like tea or flavored coffee; if you want something hot to drink, you have to buy it several blocks away. The motel as room service but they close by 8PM; it would be easier to walk over to the nearby Roosters, they close at 1AM.
Nearby, there is a Roosters Grill-Bar, Bob Evans, Sonic, and Burger King within two blocks for food. There's a Kohl's within 3 blocks distance; this motel is at the center of convenient food and shopping.
Room & Bed:
The decor is dated. Their textured patterns make it easy for dirt to hold. The light and vent within the toilet are turned on by a single switch and the vent is very loud. It was loud enough for me to prefer it off and use the outside light to keep things quiet as I poop. Although I would turn the lights back on for showers. The water knobs are inverted, hot is cold and cold is hot, so I had a few near burns due being it used to the other way. The beds are fluffy, but I prefer something firmer. The sheets they have are warm, but not actually breathable. When you warm up under the covers, it can get very warm unless you pull the covers out to cool.
Service:
The front desk is friendly but restricted in what they can accommodate due to their motel policies. They are not allowed to help you hold onto your luggage before or after checkout. The cleaning ladies will begin cleaning your room between 10AM-11AM. They are primarily Spanish-speakers and during my stay, only 1 spoke English and the rest spoke Spanish.
Experience:
I came to Columbus on a conference over the weekend and stayed here. Because this is a motel, nobody offered to take my bags nor help me in anyway aside form directing me where is my room. Once in my room, I wanted to drink something hot, but there was only the faucet and plastic cups. I decided to clean up, but realized there wasn't any toothbrush nor toothpaste available. I had to run back downstairs to get a set and the toothbrush they gave me was a very flimsy and bendy toothbrush. There was no shower mat, so I had to use one of the towels as a make-shift mat to dry my feet. The walls aren't well insulated as I was able to hear people across the motel during the night and that affected the quality of my sleep. In between sleeping in un-breathable sheets and noisy tenants, I never once slept well. I always wake up because of a noise disturbance or because I got too warm and need to cool myself off while chilling through the night. Because I'm within walking distance to several restaurants, I was able to eat well, but the fact I couldn't have a hot beverage in my room while eating left a sour note.
The front desk was nice to tell me they will tolerate up to 12PM if I'm running late to check out. Unfortunately, the teller told me it's company policy for them not to hold our bags (even though I see a room right behind them that can accommodate). I left and carried my bags for the better part of the day and managed to convince an employee in the conference to hold my bags until they close. Because of the timing of things and my bags unable to have a minder, I left early to the airport. Although the price of each stay was $60, my bill came at over $250 (extra charges). Because my company is paying for it, I wasn't bothered by it but if I did stay there on my own, I would be.
Overall:
Compared to my stays at other places, this place is lacking. I have stayed in similar establishments that offered me an optional breakfast for just $85 for the night. I had stayed in a hostel with an open kitchen with free coffee and tea for $40 per night. I've stayed in AirBnBs that provided the basics of any motel, but includes a kitchen, at least a kettle, and portable WiFi for convenient data access for $70 per night. There are competitor inns nearby that charge similarly and would bother to hold your luggage after checking out. Had they simply had a kettle, tea, sound proofed walls, and watched my bags, I would've given them a good rating. However, for the price I'm paying and constant restlessness, I would never come back. I would rather stay in an AirBnB or the Hilton next door. read more
