I stayed here for two nights earlier this week -- and had stayed here for a couple nights back in April 2018. At that time they had just finished up doing some remodeling, and things weren't bad. Everything was quite clean, a/c worked fine, TV and cable worked fine (though some kind of cable problem that makes a couple of strange vertical lines on the screen); fridge and microwave worked fine. If I had made a review last year I would have at least given it 3 stars ("A-OK"). But unfortunately this stay -- though I think (but not sure) I may have been in the same room as before -- was not very good. Bed was not comfortable (mattress springs seemed weak), TV still had vertical lines (you'd think they would have gotten that fixed by now), one set of lights plus electric outlets over the bed did not work at all, the safety/security lock (to keep people from opening the door from outside) was partly broken.
"Permanent" problems -- the spigot on the sink faucet is way too short, so you almost can't get your hands into the water. And the toilet.....it's made for a child! So small and low and the water fills up in it too high so when you wipe yourself, the back of your hand will dip into the sh*tty water. tub/shower is VERY slick and I almost slipped several times!
Now, the price for this was basically $65 a night (including taxes). I asked for the senior discount but not totally sure if I got it or not. They are the second 'cheapest' motel in Madisonville! The cheapest one has a few more reviews and they are all pretty bad. The next more expensive motel is over $70 a night, not including taxes. Seems that despite being a bit of a drab boring podunk town, Madisonville has a lot of travelers stopping there for the night, so the motels are way overpriced. So, if you've got at least $80 to spend on one night at a motel, I'd recommend passing up both Budget Motel and Motel 6. I hate to pan Motel 6; at 72 I sort of grew up with it being a highly respected no-frills yet comfortable motel, but over the decades a lot of them have gone way down hill. Sad. read more
