It's sad because my daughter and I used to stay at this particular Motel 6 several times a year about 7 years ago. This past December, we went there again expecting the same clean and safe environment we have come to associate with Motel 6. First, when we arrived, there were several men standing around outside the office watching us as we approached. This made us really nervous because it's kind of a deserted area and we were 2 women alone. When we got inside, 1 of the guys turned out to be the guy working there. A second of the guys watched over his shoulder the whole time we were being checked in. This made me more nervous. I couldn't figure out why this guy permitted someone to view our confidential information. I should have said something, but I felt a little like a deer in the headlights. After we checked in, we walked to the room which was on the back side of the hotel near the parking lot. We were being watched by some men as we went to the room. I'm not normally nervous about men like this and I had NEVER been concerned at this hotel before, but wow. When we got to the room, we couldn't lock the door. I figured out that if I lifted the door up, I could make the deadbolt slide in. I actually called my husband to see what his opinion was about whether or not we should stay. He prayed with me and we decided to stay. I picked up my mother, who lives in Mexico as a professor at the university, and we went back to the motel. Again, we were watched by men the entire time we were on our way to the room. One of them was a trucker sitting in his rig. I don't know who the other one was. It made me nervous enough that I actually googled news for the area regarding human trafficking. Later that night, I saw something move on the wall. I reached over, turned on the light, and saw the largest cockroach I have ever seen in my life. It was like from Indiana Jones. I grabbed a shoe, hit it...it fell to the floor still twitching...I hit it 2 more times before it actually died. I thank God that it held still long enough for me to kill it. The next morning, I went to check out and discovered that the guy that had been watching over the shoulder the evening before was an employee. I told him there had been some issues with the room and only tried to tell him about the roach. He just looked at me like I was crazy. I figured, what's the use. We survived. A week or so passed and I got a survey request from Motel 6. I want to say that we love Motel 6. I have stayed in Motel 6's for over 40 years and never had a situation even close to anything like this happen. Based on my survey response, I was contacted by this particular motel's manager, a woman, who was very apologetic. I told her that I might try staying there in the future only because of her response to me. In restrospect, I will really have to think hard on that though. I probably will be visiting El Centro again in April and again in June. Honestly, I probably will end up staying somewhere else and gladly pay more for it. It would have been a nice gesture to either offer me a free stay or a refund based on this experience...or at least a discount. I'm not sure if I would have used it or not, but it would have been a good gesture. As for price, they charged me $57ish for 3 female adults. I usually pay less at Motel 6 for the same guests in more high traffic areas, typically more expensive areas. Their pricing for this particular motel doesn't seem to make much sense when compared to the other ones spread throughout California. I did suggest that in the future, it would be a good idea to put female guests in a different location of the hotel for their safety and sense of safety. read more
